Ch. 301All My Brothers Are Dead, So I Am the Only One
Key plot points and events
- Daoist Ji makes a final attempt to strike Old Mother of Mount Li, killing several Wraith Children but failing to reach his real target. Refusing to use her method of survival, he fades away; Lin Feng destroys his Corpse Demon body to prevent it from reviving.
- As bronze fragments scatter through the abandoned Kiln, Lin Feng transforms into a Taotie and devours them along with the Wraith Children. He also uses the Blood-and-Flesh Sacrificial Bell to ring the Ritual Bell in the sky.
- The Iron-Crowned Daoists begin an ancient Yin-Shang divination ritual, using a human sacrifice and a bonfire to contact forgotten gods. Sensing terrible danger, Lin Feng abandons the fight and escapes into the Yellow Millet Dream Realm with the others.
- As he flees, Old Mother of Mount Li cries out. Lin Feng’s Third Eye witnesses something beyond ordinary time and space, but the sight overwhelms his mind and his head explodes. He awakens intact, apparently restored through his connection to the Wraith Mother.
- Lin Feng realizes Old Mother of Mount Li’s immortality relies on a “mother and swarm” system: her bronze offspring can consume one another, but all ultimately return to their source. He now bears twelve bronze artifacts, has gained further transformations, and is linked to the Wraith Mother.
- The Wraith Mother is unclaimed and apparently lacks a god-soul, though a corpse is concealed within her. Lin Feng is pulled into her heart and collides with it. The corpse opens its eyes, leaving him in immediate danger.
Character developments
- Lin Feng acts pragmatically, choosing escape over curiosity when the divination ritual’s malice becomes clear. His growing powers come with risks: his Third Eye can perceive things his mind cannot withstand, and his bond with the Wraith Mother draws him into danger.
- Daoist Ji dies with regret over failing to match Patriarch Wang, but retains a firm moral boundary: he would rather die than survive by using Old Mother of Mount Li’s method and harming others.
- Old Mother of Mount Li is revealed to have a distributed, swarm-like form of immortality, while the mysterious corpse within the Wraith Mother suggests another threat or secret.
Significant themes
- The cost and limits of knowledge: Lin Feng’s Third Eye reveals a truth that his mind cannot process.
- Immortality and identity: Old Mother’s survival depends on many bodies functioning as extensions of a single source.
- Moral restraint: Daoist Ji’s refusal to sacrifice others contrasts with the brutal rituals around him.
- Ancient, lingering danger: A rite meant for forgotten gods still carries power and menace.
Character interactions
- Daoist Ji’s final attack fails against Old Mother of Mount Li, while Lin Feng ends the remains of his Corpse Demon body.
- Lin Feng works alongside—or at least rescues—the others by carrying them into the Yellow Millet Dream Realm as he escapes.
- The Iron-Crowned Daoists conduct their ritual in the presence of a human sacrifice, prompting Lin Feng’s retreat.
- Lin Feng’s connection to the Wraith Mother first lets him share her distant gaze, then forcibly pulls him into her heart, where he meets the awakening corpse.
