Ever since it opened its borders, the Land of Rain had grown increasingly open in outlook. Even the traditionally secluded Amegakure Ninja Village had begun letting its ninja venture outside. All the revenue from the shops jointly established by Amegakure Ninja Village and Konoha Ninja Village went toward improving the village's environment. With proper drainage and various other improvements, the entire village looked transformed, and its ninja no longer had to wear those masks.
Maruta removed the mask he had always worn and drew a deep breath. Though he could breathe with the mask on, it had never felt nearly so easy or refreshing. After so long under such restrictions, freedom changed how he felt in both body and mind. He headed happily toward the academy, ready to begin the day's training.
Although Amegakure Ninja Village's academy had not grown any larger, all its interior facilities had been renovated. Particular attention had gone into rebuilding the training areas to give the students a good environment in which to practice.
