Stage / Realm / Level Chapter Notes
Acquired Human Tier — physical transformation 3 4 11 Absorbs the first page’s concentrated Cosmic Force through three hours of destruction and regeneration. Gains superhuman strength, speed, senses, and durability.
First life-soul strengthening 11 Survives the opening trial of the Hundredfold Soul-Tempering Score. Life-soul power increases by roughly 30%, permitting control of one additional Giant Mantis Beast.
Peak acquired Human Tier — Fate Soul 12 Completes forty-one repetitions of the Score’s first volume over nineteen days, followed by two days of consolidation. Can command twenty Giant Mantis Beasts; his body cannot yet endure the second volume.
Human-Blade Unity 39 Breaks through during his battle with Elder Xu. Integrates body, mind, soul, and weapon into a single attack, gravely injuring Xu but nearly destroying himself.
Earth Rank — physical advancement 41 42 43 Unseals the Codex’s second page using natural treasures worth fifty million yuan. Absorbs its inheritance power and gains stronger physical capabilities, higher-level arts, and further knowledge.
Refined Human-Blade Unity 46 Sparring and practice increase the unenhanced power of his blade techniques by 70–80%. Reaches a bottleneck before the higher realm of unity of heaven and man.
Thunder Blade Art — stabilized second stage 47 Corrects flaws in overlapping his strikes through two weeks of focused practice. Reliably doubles the power of his blade attacks.
Peak Earth Rank — physical strength 47 His body is described as strengthened to the peak of Earth Rank and capable of fighting ordinary Heaven Tier experts head-on.
Peak Earth Rank — life soul 49 Completes his current life-soul cultivation after approximately three months in the wilderness.
Tailored super-gene enhancement 49 Applies an individually designed genetic enhancement procedure to himself, further increasing his strength without a documented advancement beyond Earth Rank.

Background / History

Yang Yu lost his parents and other relatives during childhood and grew up without surviving family. Before entering the cultivation world, he worked as a seasoned fieldworker on a fairly well-known archaeological expedition team. He admired Professor Li, a renowned archaeologist, and was delighted to join an expedition under his leadership 1 50.

During that expedition, Yang Yu fell beneath an enormous ancient book in an underground cavern, breaking his right leg and suffering extensive wounds. The book drew him into a black hole. He eventually escaped, but continued having nightmares more than a month later while living in Shangjing City 1 2.

The ancient book became his connection to the Insectoid Civilization’s legacy. Its inheritance transformed his body and supplied knowledge of Cosmic Force, life energy, cultivation methods, and biological modification. He learned little about the civilization’s destruction, and later discovered that some inherited information no longer accurately described the civilizations present on Earth 3 38.

Appearance

  • Completely black eyes: His eyes turn entirely black after absorbing the first page’s inheritance power 3.
  • Powerfully developed physique: His transformed muscles contain explosive strength, although he can still appear ordinary when restraining his aura 12 14.
  • Adjustable clothing: His Shapeshifting Armor can take the appearance of casual clothing rather than an obvious armored robe 22.
  • Crimson combat radiance: Life Source Burst surrounds him with deep-crimson, flame-like energy 37.

Personality

Yang Yu is ambitious but cautious. His transformation inspires a desire for freedom, a longer lifespan, and eventual exploration of the universe, yet he recognizes that powerful modern weapons and hidden cultivator factions remain dangerous. He prefers concealment, preparation, and resource gathering to conspicuous displays of strength 3 4 5 16.

His pursuit of power is unusually methodical. He examines all 18,950 inherited life-soul cultivation methods before choosing one, endures repeated soul-tempering sessions, and corrects small flaws in his blade technique rather than immediately attempting a higher stage. His genetic research likewise emphasizes balanced capabilities instead of maximizing a single trait 9 12 47 49.

Self-preservation can make him ruthless. He kills the surviving witnesses to his clash with Ghost Infant Sect disciples and forces Zhao Zixuan to choose between transformation and death. Nevertheless, he also moves a battle away from frightened civilians and later treats Zhao as a trusted companion, taking Zhao’s safety and ominous intuition seriously 19 20 33 44 50.

Abilities & Skills

Insect Codex Inheritance

The Codex supplies direct physical enhancement and inherited knowledge, allowing Yang Yu to develop without relying on ordinary introductory physical cultivation techniques 3 10.

  • Page unlocking: Each documented unsealing releases inheritance power and knowledge; the second page raises him to Earth Rank 3 43.
  • Resource dependence: Unlocking the first page exhausts his savings. The second requires natural treasures worth fifty million yuan 4 42.
  • Knowledge retrieval: Hand seals and formulas let him retrieve cultivation methods from inherited memories too extensive to absorb unaided 8 9.
  • Long-term limitation: He understands that he must unlock at least five pages before being qualified to travel through the universe 3.

Enhanced Physiology

His first transformation improves strength, speed, reflexes, senses, muscle toughness, and resistance to injury 4.

Capability Documented early performance
Lifting and throwing Lifts a 750-kilogram boulder and can throw it three or four meters 4
Maximum running speed Exceeds 400 kilometers per hour 4
Standing vertical jump Exceeds thirteen meters 4
Sensory acuity Five senses are at least seven or eight times sharper than an ordinary person’s 4
Early durability Ordinary blades and clubs are ineffective; small-caliber handgun bullets can penetrate skin and lodge in muscle, while stronger modern weapons remain dangerous 4
  • Reduced sleep requirement: Can initially function for about a week without sleep, although intensive cultivation requires regular recovery 8 12.
  • Exceptional appetite: Eats roughly sixty-five pounds of meat, plus other food, without feeling full. Ordinary food becomes inadequate as he advances 8 21.
  • Accelerated thinking: Earth Rank enhancement and Fate Soul power greatly increase his ability to process information and assess threats 44.

Fate Soul and Life-Soul Space

His Fate Soul supports insect control, perception, mental influence, and access to an internal storage space 8 14 16.

  • Life imprints: Establish control over modified creatures and transmit their thoughts to him. Zhao’s imprint prevents opposition at the deepest level of mind and soul 15 41.
  • Perception: Detects valuable objects and helps distinguish overlooked treasures 12 16 22.
  • Influence over weaker beings: Makes nearby pedestrians unconsciously clear his path and permits limited direction of their behavior within ten meters 14.
  • Storage and deployment: Houses both the Codex and Giant Mantis Beasts. His summoning and withdrawal range increases from five to twenty meters after soul cultivation 12 16.
  • Limits: Creature-command capacity depends on Fate Soul strength. He has not yet cultivated dedicated soul-attack or soul-defense techniques when examining the zither artifact 8 30.

Hundredfold Soul-Tempering Score

Yang Yu selects this supreme-grade technique after comparing the Codex’s 18,950 life-soul methods. Its five musical volumes correspond to the five cultivation stages of the Planetary Realm 9 10.

  • Tempers the life soul through painful musical notes and Dark Force 11.
  • Requires no rare treasures, making it particularly useful on resource-scarce Earth 10.
  • The first volume reaches its limit after forty-one repetitions; further progress requires a stronger body and the next volume 11 12.
  • The second movement increases his Fate Soul power to at least ten times its earlier strength during wilderness training 47.
  • Excessively advanced music can cause catastrophic injury: one note of the second volume nearly kills him while he remains at Human Tier 12.

Life Energy and Genetic Modification

Life energy is the biological power underlying the Insectoid Civilization’s creature creation and enhancement. Yang Yu initially discovers an icy-blue sphere within his heart region that releases this vitality 3 5.

  • Creature evolution: Transforms Black-Spotted Tiger-Stripe Mantises into Giant Mantis Beasts 16.
  • Blade Queen creation: Transforms Zhao Zixuan through a four-to-five-hour procedure followed by a three-day cocoon period. The process nearly exhausts him 20 21.
  • Taming and breeding: Domesticates five mantises as breeding stock for a larger force 23.
  • Gene extraction: Develops a method of extracting genes and modifying organisms after two months and nine days in the wilderness 47.
  • Reversible experimentation: Uses life energy to remove problematic genes and test new combinations 49.
  • Balanced enhancement: Designs separate procedures for the mantises, Zhao, and himself; excessive development of one attribute can burden the body and create weaknesses 49.

Blade Mastery and Thunder Blade Art

Yang Yu favors blades and uses the Yama Battle Blade as his principal weapon. His mastery reaches Human-Blade Unity during the fight against Elder Xu 22 39.

  • Human-Blade Unity: Coordinates physical strength, Cosmic Force, life energy, soul power, and weapon into a unified attack 39.
  • Combat applications: Deflects bullets, destroys an opponent’s sword, and cuts a hundred-ton boulder in half 33 35 46.
  • Thunder Blade Art: Overlaps successive strikes within the same span of time to multiply their power 46.
  • Stacking: The art can combine with blade mastery, Life Source Burst, and other enhancements 46.
  • Current bottleneck: Unity of heaven and man remains an anticipated breakthrough, not an attained state 46.
Thunder Blade Art stage Power increase Documented attainment
First 50% increase 46 Surpassed by his documented second-stage development 47
Second At least 100% increase 46 Fully stabilized 47
Third Four to five times normal blade power 46 Not documented as mastered

Life Source Burst

This emergency Insect Race technique burns Cosmic Force and life energy to produce a short-lived surge of strength 37.

  • At Human Tier, allows him to contend with Earth-tier Elder Xu 37.
  • After reaching Earth Rank, temporarily raises his physical strength to the level of a newly advanced Heaven-tier cultivator 46.
  • Compatible with almost any other power enhancement 37.
  • Consumes energy drastically faster than ordinary combat: endurance that might support half a day of normal fighting can be exhausted in about ten minutes 37.
  • Does not constitute a permanent realm advancement 37 43.

Archaeology, Appraisal, and Restoration

His archaeological background provides practical expertise in antiques and a means of financing cultivation 5 12 26.

  • Combines antiquities knowledge with Fate Soul perception to identify valuable finds 12 22.
  • Restores five damaged Mortal Shedding Treasures using Cosmic Force and an inherited secret technique; the zither and folding fan rise from inferior to ordinary grade 23.
  • Uses purchased materials and special incantations to substantially upgrade his blade and armor 31.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Insect Codex — Central inheritance artifact; stored in his Life-Soul Space for protection 12.
  • Yama Battle Blade — Recovered from the Immortal Spirit Ghost Market and retained as his main weapon. Restoration raises it to supreme grade and increases its power at least fivefold 22 31.
  • Shapeshifting Armor — Changes appearance at his will. Initially protects against ordinary firearms; restoration raises it to high grade and adds a mind-bewildering ability 22 31.
  • Treasure-grade boots, helmet, and gloves — Purchased to improve combat strength and cover defensive weaknesses. Their layered barriers help prevent injury from concentrated gunfire 30 34.
  • Thunderbolt Golden Needles — Single-use hidden weapon capable of threatening Heaven Tier opponents 30.
  • Psychic Jade — Supreme-grade pendant whose interior he cannot fully investigate; he glimpses what may be a palace within it 22.
  • Ration Pills — Purchases a year’s supply of energy-rich food to support his enhanced body 30.
  • Strength Frenzy Scroll — Recovered from Elder Xu by Zhao after the battle; three uses remain following Xu’s activation against Yang Yu 38 41.

War Insect Forces

Point in development Force
Early command Three Giant Mantis Beasts, stored and fed through the Life-Soul Space 8
Ghost Market excavation Eight active beasts after evolving five additional mantises 16
Assassination battle Twenty beasts deployed to counter seven Human-tier experts and armed disciples 35
Nature reserve retreat Seven beasts have reached Earth Rank; Number One leads the force 45
Wilderness cultivation Army expands to 250 Giant Mantis Beasts 47
Final enhancement Balanced reflex, dynamic vision, strength, stone armor, and swift movement genes more than double overall combat power 50
  • The enhanced mantises can hold out against ordinary Earth Rank experts for extended periods, but most still cannot win such a one-on-one fight 50.
  • Besides combat, Yang Yu uses them for scouting, excavation, carrying treasures, clearing terrain, and constructing concealed underground quarters 15 16 45.
  • Feeding on defeated enemies supplies energy for further evolution and removes evidence from battlefields 19 41.
  • Zhao receives second-level command authority over the war insects 44.

Relationships

  • Zhao Zixuan — First Blade Queen and most trusted confidant. Their relationship begins with coercion, becomes supernaturally enforced loyalty, and develops into close cooperation in combat, sparring, and biological research. Zhao kills Elder Xu and rescues Yang Yu; Yang later grants command authority and arranges additional protection 20 21 40 41 44 49 50.
  • Giant Mantis King Number One — Leading mantis and loyal subordinate. Protects Yang Yu during his recovery, directs the insect force, and serves as the chief subject of repeated genetic experiments 41 45 49.
  • Professor Li — Renowned archaeologist and early idol; leads the expedition during which Yang Yu encounters the ancient book 1.
  • Zhou Zifeng — Tongbao heir who previously serves Yang Yu while posing as a clerk. His recommendation improves Yang Yu’s trading terms; he later orders discreet observation with the intention of recruiting him 28 43.
  • Zhang Ning — Courteous Divine Armament Pavilion salesman. Handles the 160-million-yuan treasure sale and helps Yang Yu purchase equipment and cultivation supplies 28 29 30.
  • Mi Ke — Trading guide who honors their commission agreement by transferring him four million yuan 26 30.
  • Elder Xu — Earth-rank enemy sent to assassinate him. Their battle forces Yang Yu’s blade breakthrough and leaves both critically injured; Zhao subsequently kills Xu 31 37 38 39 40.
  • Du Xingze — Heaven-tier Ghost Infant Sect master and principal remaining threat. Orders Yang Yu’s death and expands the pursuit after the assassination force is destroyed 31 42 44 50.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Establishing the Insectoid Inheritance

After surviving the cavern encounter, Yang Yu absorbs the first page’s power, tests his transformed body on Tianjing Mountain, and discovers life energy. His immediate obstacles become money, food, and insufficient Fate Soul strength rather than ordinary physical weakness 1 2 3 4 5 8.

He chooses the Hundredfold Soul-Tempering Score and cultivates its first volume to completion. With command capacity increased to twenty mantises, he visits Shangjing City’s Antique and Bird Market to acquire suitable insects and search for valuable objects 9 10 11 12.

Ghost Market and Zhao’s Transformation

Yang Yu excavates the abandoned Immortal Spirit Ghost Market, recovering antiques and cultivator treasures. While leaving, he intervenes in the pursuit of Zhao Zixuan, kills Tie San, and interrogates the remaining Ghost Infant Sect disciples before killing them to prevent disclosure 16 18 19.

Recognizing Zhao’s suitability for Blade Queen modification, he demands loyalty under threat of death and performs the transformation. The Ghost Infant Sect begins investigating the missing disciples and the looted market 20 21.

Financing the Second Page

He retains Yama, Shapeshifting Armor, and Psychic Jade, restores five other treasures, and visits the Ten Thousand Layers Tower’s trading establishments. Their sale earns 160 million yuan, which he converts into equipment, food, repair materials, and resources for the Codex’s second page 22 23 28 29 30.

Ghost Infant Sect Assassination Attempt

The sect attacks his apartment with Elder Xu, seven acquired Human-rank experts, and fifty elite disciples. Yang Yu draws the confrontation away from residents, counters the encirclement with twenty mantises, and kills several experts, including Hong Tao 31 33 34 35 36.

Life Source Burst lets him challenge Xu, but Xu’s Strength Frenzy Scroll reverses the advantage. Yang Yu attains Human-Blade Unity and gravely injures Xu in a final collision, yet is thrown into a lake unconscious. Zhao emerges as the Blade Queen, kills Xu, and evacuates Yang Yu 37 38 39 40 41.

Earth Rank and Wilderness Preparation

After recovering enough to act, Yang Yu unseals the second page and advances to Earth Rank. Rather than immediately confronting Heaven-tier Du Xingze, he relocates to a remote nature reserve and establishes a concealed underground base 41 42 43 44 45.

Over three months and seven days, he refines his blade techniques, reaches peak Earth-rank life-soul power, develops genetic modification, and strengthens his army. He decides to return to Shangjing City, treating Du as the main remaining obstacle. Zhao’s ominous premonition prompts extra safeguards; meanwhile, the sect has captured and tortured Zhao’s parents while searching for the pair 46 47 49 50.
