He then joined Lu Yuanyi and Zheng Ziheng on a trip to the Southwestern Jungle, where a fight helped him use his new cultivation arts before the group entered the beast-haunted forest.

• Shen Leyan and his senior brother discovered that a demon was tormenting a burned village, and Shen Leyan summoned Lu Yuanyi to extinguish the flames.

Shen Leyan gathered the Jadeblood Snakegrass, uncovered the crimes in Glory Ancestors Village, and helped rescue Chen Jing before returning to Cloud Radiance Sect. As he pursued cultivation and protected Ji Lianyi, his apprenticeship trial plunged him into a vision where Bai Licheng attacked Lu Yuanyi at Myriad-Fathom Cliff.

• Shen Leyan ate poisonous mushrooms, then helped Zheng Ziheng obtain the Jadeblood Snakegrass by promising the giant snake demon that Cloud Radiance Sect would protect its next stalk.
• Shen Leyan and Lu Yuanyi reached Glory Ancestors Village, discovered the villagers had murdered newborn girls and abandoned their remains in towers, and buried the infants.
• Shen Leyan rescued Chen Jing and the other bound disciples from the villagers, while Lu Yuanyi froze Chen Jing to keep his injuries from worsening and took him to be treated.
• Shen Leyan returned to Cloud Radiance Sect, where he learned the elders were competing to teach him and helped Ji Lianyi escape Peacock Gate assassins who intended to kill the crown prince.
• Shen Leyan entered the Apprenticeship Ceremony tournament, won his matches, and passed through the Boundless Gate while Lu Yuanyi concealed his vision from the elders.
• Shen Leyan followed Bai Licheng through a Teleportation Array to Myriad-Fathom Cliff and found Lu Yuanyi meditating in a cave.
• Bai Licheng attacked the cave with Other Shore Flowers, and Shen Leyan fought him while Lu Yuanyi tried to recover his cultivation.
• Shen Leyan forced a breakthrough but was struck into the cave wall, and Lu Yuanyi ordered the Mind-Peering Demon Core to end Shen Leyan's test early.
