The corridors of the East District Investigation Bureau formed a tangled maze, and every Department gave off an eerie air.

Chanted scriptures, hummed nursery rhymes, panting from the loudspeakers, and intermittent footsteps filled the building. It hardly seemed like a place where Investigators worked. It was more like a nest of ghosts.

The eyes of the portraits painted on the walls rolled around. They licked their lips, watching everyone who passed.

"So this is the Ghost Story Game?" Li Lin hadn't believed such things existed at first. But now that he was actually caught in a strange tale, the overwhelming sense of danger, fear, and helplessness wrapped around his heart and soul like chains he couldn't break.

As he walked cautiously through the emergency passage, Li Lin caught a faint scent of blood. With his back to Su Mo, he raised a hand and signaled him to stop.

Su Mo had no criminal investigation experience, and in the dim light, he couldn't really make out what Li Lin was doing. He only stopped when he reached Li Lin's side. "What's wrong?"

"There's a very fresh smell of blood up ahead. When I tell you to run, run. Don't do anything on your own." Li Lin tightened his grip on his service pistol and edged forward, hugging the wall.

His nerves were taut as instrument strings, his life poised to become a swan song. Li Lin had never felt so uneasy. Everything on this floor felt wrong.

Rounding the corner, Li Lin aimed his gun ahead. The horrifying scene he'd imagined wasn't there. Instead, a female Investigator lay covered in blood beneath the flickering lights.
