I was a timid person. I never dared to go out alone at night. I always felt that something was waiting for me in the corridor.
Home was the only place where I felt safe, but ever since Dad and Mom disappeared, everything had changed.
Dad and Mom disappeared right there at home. That night, their voices woke me in the middle of the night. They told me to run, to get out of my room as fast as I could, but when I opened my eyes, the house was frighteningly quiet.
With the blanket pulled over my eyes, I peeked into the living room. All the furniture and appliances were still there. Nothing was missing. Instead... there were a few extra shadows standing in the room, shaped something like refrigerators.
They stood there, moving without a sound, like coffins propped upright.
When morning finally came, I pulled open the curtains and ran into the living room, calling loudly for Dad and Mom.
No one answered. I pushed open the master bedroom door. Dad and Mom were gone.
I immediately called the police, but the neighbors told them they suspected I had killed Dad and Mom.
They said they heard arguments and pleas for mercy coming from my home every night. They said I was a violent lunatic, that Dad and Mom kept calling my name at night. But I knew nothing about any of it.
Even now, the police still haven't found Dad and Mom. I must be the only person in the world who knows where they've been hidden. Look, here they come...
Nightfall completely shrouded Lishan Hospital. Once the last glimmer of light disappeared, the doors of the Critical Care Ward transformed entirely into coffins. Vast patches of shadow spread rapidly across the crooked walls like moss.
