Wan Jie was surrounded, yet there was not a trace of panic on his face. He surveyed the crowd, his gaze lingering only a little longer on Zhuo Jun and Fu Huo.
"Anomaly events are breaking out across the city. The catastrophe is already here. Those things you used to be so good at might work on me, but will they work on ghosts?" Wan Jie turned his gaze back to the Jingtuo God. "I have no intention of fighting you for anything. The power and influence you seek are worth no more than dung to me. I just don't want my team members to keep dying for nothing."
He glanced back at Bai Xiao. "You think our Security Department is heartless, that we treat investigators as cannon fodder. But we're nothing more than knives in someone else's hands ourselves. Does a knife need feelings? Being able to cut meat is enough."
Picking up the black combination-lock case, Wan Jie headed outside. "If you change your mind, you can come find me anytime."
Wan Jie had a special pair of eyes that could see through the fog. But that was also why certain powerful figures disliked him.
Standing in the hospital ward, Bai Xiao did not put away his blade. He watched the Jingtuo God warily. None of these people were any good, and each was more frightening than the last.
