The Expelled Gao Ming found himself heading deeper into the corridor, but Fan Li grabbed him. "Go back first!"
"The Gao Ming in that room is calling for help! He wants to get out!"
"Slow down. What if the one in that room isn't Gao Ming, but a ghost?" Liu Yi pressed a hand against Gao Ming's shoulder.
"A ghost?"
The three returned to the room, and Liu Yi shut the door. Only after all sounds outside had died away did she dare speak. "Everyone is unique. A person's life is made up of countless choices, and those different choices are what make them who they truly are."
Clutching his schoolbag, Gao Ming thought over Liu Yi's words.
"The fact that you've become what you are now means whoever wants to hurt you froze your memories on July fourteenth. For you, that's where every change began. For whoever wants to harm you, it's also a chance to correct every mistake." Liu Yi continued analyzing the situation for them. "Depending on your choices, you might have been Expelled, or you might have already killed yourself. So there's another possibility—you've already become a Vengeful Ghost."
Fan Li had said the building was haunted. Gao Ming had seen what the ghost looked like earlier, its body covered in other people's hands and feet. It was creepy and terrifying.
"Even if he's become a Vengeful Ghost, isn't he still me? Would I really kill myself?" The Expelled Gao Ming grew increasingly excited. "Maybe I can team up with him. We can go 'take out' the other ghosts together!"
Liu Yi covered her forehead. Different choices had created different versions of Gao Ming. The one before her seemed afraid of nothing, brave to the point of recklessness. Whatever happened, he just wanted to fight.
"But
