The Mercy Society's vehicle drove all the way to the Pharmaceutical Factory. The buildings along the streets were still intact, without a trace of damage.
"We're here."
The driver didn't dare get out. He gripped the steering wheel with both hands, his heels lifting anxiously.
"Councilor Ci Mei is with us. Don't be afraid." Jia Youzhi reassured the driver, though his own back was already soaked with cold sweat. He was only pretending to be calm.
Bang!
The door opened, letting cold wind rush into the vehicle. Gao Ming was the first to step out.
"Where did everyone go?"
"Maybe they're all dead," Wu Wei said quietly. "There aren't any bodies in the Old Pharmaceutical Factory Forbidden Zone either. They say a monster piled all the living people's bodies in one place, filling the rooms and piecing together a home out of corpses."
"If you have nothing useful to say, you can keep quiet." Jia Youzhi had already been afraid. Now he was even more panicked, huddling behind Gao Ming.
Gao Ming looked at the Pharmaceutical Factory's open gates and walked straight inside. Many cigarette butts and a few children's shoe prints remained on the ground. The prints were wet, as though whoever had left them had just crawled out of some kind of liquid.
"Don't touch anything here!" Wu Wei grabbed Ding Xiang's hand. "Put it back!"
"What's wrong?" Gao Ming stopped and took a bottle of pale red medicinal liquid from Ding Xiang's pocket.
"This is the Takekawa Society's new drug. It can fetch a lot of money on the Black Market. I saw it lying on the ground, so why wouldn't I pick it up?" Ding Xiang pulled free of Wu Wei's grip and glared at her.
