The corpses transported out of the Underground Water Network sometimes made noises. The Cleaners had long since grown used to this, so they paid little attention and merely stopped for a routine inspection.
Two Cleaners in full hazmat suits opened the cargo compartment. One checked inside with a flashlight while the other stood guard with a specially designed gun loaded with syringes.
"Probably another incomplete decontamination. There are still sewer bugs in the corpses." The Cleaner's voice came through his mask, muffled and indistinct.
"Hurry up. I had beef offal this morning, and this smell is making me want to puke." The Cleaner standing guard lowered his muzzle and yawned.
"You've got quite an appetite. I've been vegetarian for years." The Cleaner switched off his flashlight and had just turned around when the pile of corpses behind him suddenly burst apart. A figure lunged out!
Using the Cleaner as a human shield, Gao Ming grabbed him and slammed him into the other Cleaner. It took less than a minute to knock them both unconscious.
After sealing them in isolation bags and cutting air holes, Gao Ming motioned for the driver to close the truck's doors.
Gao Ming jumped into the cab, intending to drive away, but happened to spot the files the Cleaning Company had created for him and the driver.
The Cleaning Company's preliminary assessment was that both men had been affected by the Forbidden Zone. However, they had not ventured far inside and had been fortunate enough to encounter a Cleaner patrol, which was how they had survived.
The samples taken from Gao Ming and the driver were still being tested. Their files also included some surveillance footage from the Underground Water Network.
