Kicking aside a black box on the floor, Xue Se raised his service pistol and led his team into the hospital ward.
The pungent smell of blood seemed to surge like an invisible wave, breaking down something inside the ward. A clattering rang out as black boxes tumbled to the floor, one after another. On the bed in the very center of the room, Xue Se saw a child so handsome and perfect that he hardly looked human.
He was about ten years old, without a single visible flaw. If Xue Se had to choose a word to describe the child, he felt that "God" would be more fitting.
The walls made of black boxes collapsed. A ring of instruments fashioned into black cubes surrounded the bed, with countless black cables and tubes extending from them. The boy was at the center of all the equipment.
"Put down what you're holding! Hands on your head!" Xue Se barked, but the boy paid him no attention, turning the Multifaceted Rubik's Cube in his hands.
"I almost had it finished. What a shame." The boy let the police tread among the black boxes littering the floor as patterns gradually formed on the Multifaceted Rubik's Cube in his hands. Each face of the cube depicted a Xinhu Map, but every version of Xinhu was somewhat different.
One Xinhu was a landscape of blood-red ruins shrouded in black fog; another had undergone rapid technological development and built a Smart City; another was full of madmen, with extremist organizations everywhere.
"Don't hurt him! Please, don't hurt him!" The doctor Xue Se had handcuffed earlier wailed in the corridor. The other detained doctors were shouting too.
Just as the final face was about to be completed, the cube seemed unable to withstand the repeated rapid turns.
