The monster before him was too badly wounded to respond at all. Banban forced down his fear and approached, rummaging out some healing medicine to feed him.
As he leaned forward, Banban happened to glimpse the room behind the monster. The monster's lower body was hidden inside the cramped, pitch-black room, entwined with three corpses.
He suddenly recalled some horrifying rumors. Reports of a Serial Killer in the Residential Management Zone had begun several years earlier. Every witness had sworn to the media that they had seen a terrifying scene. They said an old building concealed a bizarre creature that could no longer be called human. He had eaten his wife, strangled her family with his own hands, and lived with their corpses every day as though nothing had happened.
"The Strange Tale in those rumors was him! He was why the Three Major Organizations repeatedly purged the Old District!"
With the medicine bottle in his hand, Banban hesitated for a moment. He did not want to save a murderer, but he also felt there was more to this.
He knew the Three Major Organizations' methods all too well. Before doing anything, they would steer public opinion and paint themselves as righteous. He had done plenty of similar things himself.
"Maybe the Strange Tale in the Old District was something the Three Major Organizations made up to give themselves a reason to search the Residential Management Zone."
Banban was more willing to trust his adoptive father than the Three Major Organizations.
He slowly poured the medicine into the monster's mouth, but even the finest healing medicine could not heal his wounds. If he had not still been able to feel the monster's heart beating, Banban would probably have thought he had been dead for a long time.
"It's not working?"
