Perhaps the fate giant tree would find his true name before Gao Ming did. All Gao Ming could do was shut out every distraction and put everything he had into slaughtering it first. The phone in his palm began to vibrate. The caller ID showed the Old Lady's number, but Gao Ming did not answer. He returned the phone and left the hospital. "Every mortal world is a leaf vein on the fate giant tree. In worlds where a divine oddity has been born, killing it might help that world escape fate's delusion. But in worlds where no divine oddity has been born, how do you sever fate's leaf veins?" Gao Ming had released a variable. Many of his actions would, in some unseen way, become keys to killing fate, but he had no idea exactly what he should do.
He walked along a roadside in the mortal world. This city was called Xinhu. Strangely, every mortal world seemed to have a Xinhu. Even when its name was slightly different, the city's location was more or less the same.
"The passage between the deep world and the mortal world is also in Xinhu Blood City. It's like an axis connecting all those scattered fragments of time."
The Paper Person's eye in his palm suddenly trembled. In this mortal world, which seemed devoid of the supernatural, that eyeball was just as out of place as Gao Ming. Sensing something, Gao Ming looked up and saw a silent street and rows of dilapidated apartment buildings.
The blurry outlines grew clear, and the apartment buildings overlapped with Gao Ming's memories. As though drawn by some force, he had inexplicably arrived at the home where he used to live—or at least somewhere that looked very similar from the outside.
