Ning Father was the first to object. His face stern, he said, "Enough. You're coming home with us today."
He was already going to the Zheng Family's place every day before they were even married. Would he ever come home once they were?
Ning Shile pursed his lips, troubled. Then how am I supposed to warn Zheng Mother about tomorrow's gown?
And that DNA test report for Zheng Father and the illegitimate child.
If I don't go, someone might even die tomorrow.
With every thought Ning Shile voiced, Zheng Father's and Zheng Mother's hearts sank further.
No, Lele, at least finish explaining! Are you telling us a horror story here?
Zheng Father and Zheng Mother were frantic, but they couldn't ask him directly.
So what was wrong with the gown?
How could a perfectly ordinary banquet end in someone's death?
And what exactly was that DNA test report about an illegitimate child?
Even Zheng Father was baffled. He had never done anything to betray Zheng Mother! He worked diligently day in and day out, doing nothing but making money whenever he wasn't asleep. How could he possibly have an illegitimate child?
Having delivered his doomsday forecast, Ning Shile was bundled into the car by his parents. He sighed and waved at Zheng Father and Zheng Mother. "Bye, Uncle and Auntie!"
Their spirits weighed down, Zheng Father and Zheng Mother had just raised their hands to wave goodbye when they heard Ning Shile speak again:
Ah, I hope you won't be enemies the next time you meet.
Zheng Father and Zheng Mother felt another knife plunge into their poor hearts.
Enemies? Was it really that serious?
Ning Shile had turned a perfectly ordinary banquet into a prediction of the end of the world.
Zheng Father and Zheng Mother sighed and fretted the whole way home.
Nearly everything Ning Shile had mentioned over the past few days had come true. That being the case, this was probably true as well.
Even Zheng Father was starting to doubt himself. Could I really have an illegitimate child? What the hell? How come I didn't know???
Zheng Mother was just as troubled. She trusted that her husband would never betray her, but she couldn't ignore Ning Shile's words.
If an illegitimate child really... showed up tomorrow, how was I supposed to face it?
At that thought, Zheng Mother felt as though a large pair of hands had clenched around her heart. She could barely breathe.
She had married Zheng Father precisely because he was dependable, responsible, and knew what he should and shouldn't do.
The Zheng Family hadn't always wielded such influence in the Imperial Capital. Back then, its business had been barely clinging to life, on the verge of bankruptcy. Only after Zheng Mother married into the family had the Zheng Corporation been brought back from the brink. Outsiders credited Zheng Father's abilities, never realizing that Zheng Mother had helped lay its original foundation.
The connections, resources, and initial capital had all been built through Zheng Mother's hard work.
Zheng Mother would never forget the moment Zheng Father knelt, took out a ring, and proposed to her. He had said, "I'm no good at sweet words."
"I love you. For the rest of my life." The wind had been loud that night, and a crowd of people around them had been cheering, yet in that moment, Zheng Mother had been oblivious to it all.
All she could see was the steadfast, enduring love in his eyes, and her own reflection.
The mere thought that Zheng Father might have cheated made Zheng Mother's limbs turn cold. It wasn't even anger she felt, but a chilling sense of betrayal.
"Honey," Zheng Father suddenly said. His voice was a little hoarse as he looked into her eyes and asked, "Do you believe me?"
Zheng Mother's throat tightened slightly. Somehow, her thoughts had drifted far into the past.
"Will you trust me?" Zheng Father asked again.
Zheng Mother was silent for a long while before nodding.
"I didn't do it," Zheng Father said. "I don't know what's going on either, but I'll face it with you."
"Please believe me," Zheng Father said, taking Zheng Mother's hand. "All right?"
Zheng Mother thought that if Zheng Father was lying right now, his acting was far too good.
She sighed and nodded. "All right."
"But if you really do have an illegitimate child..." Zheng Mother looked Zheng Father straight in the eye and smiled. "I'll cut off your dick and feed it to Little Kou."
Zheng Father drew a deep breath. "Who's Little Kou?"
Zheng Mother answered calmly, "The golden retriever next door."
Zheng Father: "..."
At that, Zheng Ye's lips curved slightly. He turned his head and looked out the car window.
Zheng Ye knew about this.
He had spent the past half month at the company consolidating his plans. While laying the groundwork, he had already noticed something amiss, so he had sent people to investigate and obtained the evidence. Zheng Ye had been wondering how to approach that woman, but now it seemed there was no need. She would take the bait herself tomorrow.
Zheng Ye opened the digital copy of the DNA report on his phone, his gaze shifting slightly.
Bzz, bzz—
A WeChat message suddenly popped up, and Zheng Ye opened it.
Le: Hi, Brother Ye, this is Ning Shile [kitten peeking.jpg]
Zheng Ye raised an eyebrow. When had he added Ning Shile?
Z: Need something?
Le: I just heard Uncle mention there's a banquet tomorrow night. Could I come? [pitiful look.jpg]
Although Zheng Ye had the evidence in hand, he didn't know exactly how things would unfold tomorrow. Having Ning Shile there would be a good thing.
Z: Yes.
Le: Yay!! [little bear spinning.gif]
Le: Then I'll come find you at your office tomorrow!!
Zheng Ye typed.
Z: Mm.
Before you continue
