The Bai Corporation interviews lasted an entire week. During that time, Bai Qiongyu played the gracious host, often taking Ning Shile around Haicheng, and the two gradually grew familiar with each other.
Tonight was Bai Qiongyu's birthday. He was throwing a party at Haicheng's biggest club and had specifically invited Ning Shile.
Ning Shile wasn't particularly fond of occasions like this, but since it was Bai Qiongyu's birthday, he agreed to go.
Zheng Ye had been calling very frequently these past two days, video-calling to check up on him practically whenever he had a spare moment.
"So you're going to a bar tonight?" Zheng Ye lifted his eyes, shifting his attention from the proposal to his phone screen.
"Yeah," Ning Shile grumbled softly, as though whispering to someone close to him. "I honestly don't want to go at all."
Zheng Ye felt like laughing, but it wasn't quite appropriate right now, so he merely raised an eyebrow. "Then why are you going?"
"Ah." Ning Shile sighed. "It's Qiongyu's birthday, after all."
Qiongyu.
Zheng Ye turned that affectionate form of address over in his mind and scoffed.
Everything about the Bai Corporation was a pain in the ass.
"Why are you calling me during the day today?" Ning Shile teased with a smile. "Aren't you usually getting ready for a meeting around now?"
Ning Shile raised his eyebrows, leaned a little closer, and called softly, "President Zheng~"
"Ahem." Zheng Ye coughed lightly, seemingly a little embarrassed by that form of address.
He was seated in the first seat on the right in the conference room, with his subordinates waiting for the meeting before him and Zheng Father glaring daggers beside him. Yet under everyone's gaze, Zheng Ye lied without batting an eye. "I'm not busy today."
