Early the next morning, Bai Qiongyu headed straight into the kitchen as soon as he got up and poured a small bowl of milk for Tangqiu.
He searched the courtyard for ages without finding Tangqiu and asked Ning Shile in confusion, "Lele, where's my Brother Tang?"
Ning Shile, who was brushing his teeth in the courtyard, froze, momentarily unsure how to answer.
Yi Chen, who was eating bread, raised an eyebrow. He glanced at Ning Shile, his gaze darkening, and spoke as though something had occurred to him. "Someone drugged Tangqiu last night."
"I heard they even pulled out Tangqiu's claws." Yi Chen's voice grew soft and quiet as he looked up at Bai Qiongyu. "The vet came over last night."
Bai Qiongyu's expression changed instantly, and his voice rose several pitches. "What?"
"Who the fuck would do something so vile?!"
"I—I don't know." Yi Chen hesitated, then glanced at Ning Shile and said very quietly, "Apparently, Ning Shile found him."
Bai Qiongyu's expression shifted slightly as he turned toward Ning Shile.
Ning Shile spat out the water in his mouth and stayed still.
"Tangqiu was in our room last night. I went to sleep first." Yi Chen's voice wasn't loud, but every word reached Ning Shile's ears. "Ning Shile stayed awake the whole time, and then something happened to Tangqiu."
The implication was obvious. Ning Shile was the only person who could have gotten near Tangqiu in the middle of the night.
Not to mention that Ning Shile had been the first to discover what had happened.
If someone else had done it, how could Ning Shile have been the one to find out?
