Once the ginger soup was ready, Xie Yunshu ladled it into a bowl and set it on the table. When it had cooled to just the right temperature, she carried it upstairs to Yan Wen.
Hearing a knock, Yan Wen went to open the door. When he saw Xie Yunshu, he invited her in to sit for a while.
Xie Yunshu set the bowl on the table. "It's just the right temperature. Drink it while it's hot."
"Okay." Yan Wen tried a spoonful first. Finding that it didn't burn his mouth at all, he lifted the bowl and drained it in one go.
Seeing the pained look on his face from the spicy ginger, Xie Yunshu couldn't help laughing. "You could have drunk it a little more slowly."
Yan Wen chuckled. "If I didn't drink it quickly, it would cool down and taste bad."
Better to get the pain over with than drag it out. I might as well finish it in one go and suffer afterward.
Host, don't you like ginger?
It's not that. I quite like ginger, but I don't like ginger soup, ginger tea, or other drinks made by boiling it.
Xie Yunshu smiled. "Ginger soup warms you up. You should drink it regularly in winter to prevent colds."
Yan Wen nodded obediently. "Okay, Mom."
"I'll head back to my room, then. You should get some rest soon, too."
Xie Yunshu stepped out and closed the door. The warmth in her eyes turned cold in an instant.
Mu Huai'an had just returned and ran straight into her. He forced a fawning smile. "Mom, I'm home."
Xie Yunshu nodded. "You don't need to tell me things like that."
