Background / History
Tang Yun is his parents’ only child, but the youngest in a wider family with older brothers and sisters. Having spent his childhood addressing others as his seniors, he eagerly claims the role of “big brother” when he meets the younger Yan Wen 20.
His parents frequently travel for work, and his youngest maternal uncle, Mo Chengzhou, largely raised him. Tang Yun remains attached to his uncle, who is only six years older than him. Although his parents adore him, their long absences leave him wishing they had more time to talk; early in his university life, they are overseas on a six-month business trip 22 47 49.
Tang Yun describes his family’s business as a “small company.” Old Master Gao instead identifies the Tang Family as a centuries-old family whose influence across the north has continued to grow 22 53.
Personality
Tang Yun is outgoing, talkative, and immediately familiar with new acquaintances. At their first meeting, he barely gives Yan Wen room to speak before offering to eat together, paying for his meal, and promising to protect him. Mo Chengzhou later calls attention to his “chatterbox habit” when he enthusiastically lists Yan Wen’s talents 20 49.
His loyalty is more than a joke about being an older brother. He challenges Mu Huai’an’s self-pitying behavior, warns Yan Wen about possible manipulation, and refuses to distance himself when malicious rumors threaten Yan Wen’s reputation. He also speaks up when the Tao Family tries to control Li Zhaoxi’s friendships 21 32 43.
Tang Yun enjoys gossip, food outings, and exaggerated performances of distress. He pretends to wipe away tears over school separations and teases Gao Yuyang about his interest in Li Zhaoxi. His temper is sharper during games, where uncooperative teammates provoke blunt insults and frustration 21 58 60 172.
He readily accepts Yan Wen’s relationship with Mo Chengzhou. What hurts him is discovering that his closest friend concealed it—not that the two are dating. An apology and the promise that he can plan their wedding quickly win his forgiveness 106 107.
