Background / History
Xiao Yuan transmigrated to the Dou Qi Continent after choosing three advantages: a Supreme-level cultivation inheritance, a divine-grade Dou Di bloodline, and a one-use resurrection totem. These rewards begin becoming available at the Dou Zhe stage, while the bloodline is intended to mature gradually 1.
As an infant, he was found abandoned in the ruins of Chen Family Village. Xiao Zhan brought him back to the Xiao Clan, adopted him, and gave him the name Xiao Yuan. His biological parentage is not established in the supplied chapters 2.
Before his rise attracted widespread attention, he mostly cultivated behind closed doors and rarely involved himself in clan affairs. He had little contact with Xiao Yan or Xiao Xun’er, despite their family connections 3 19 20.
Appearance
Xiao Yuan has handsome features that retain a youthful innocence. His small stature and young-looking face initially lead opponents to underestimate him 5 17 40.
- Height: Less than 1.6 metres during his visit to the Dou Technique Hall 14.
- Eyes: Dark eyes; lightning gleams within them when his power manifests 19 37 39.
- Clothing: Frequently wears silver robes during his early clan life; wears simple, close-fitting clothes upon his reunion with Xiao Yi Xian 14 17 40.
- Bearing: Restrained and composed, with an increasingly oppressive presence as his cultivation rises 12 31.
Personality
Xiao Yuan is ambitious but usually prioritizes suitability and survival over prestige. He rejects incompatible Spirit Arts despite their quality, starts magic-core cultivation with first-tier materials, and retreats from stronger Beast Spirits rather than treating every encounter as a fight he must win. When his limited repertoire becomes dangerous, he stops hunting to develop a more complete combat style 2 9 37 39.
His calm exterior conceals pride and a sharp temper when others mock his age. During his first battle, he attacks Jia Lie Ao after being dismissed as a child, then stubbornly minimizes his injuries before coughing up blood. Nevertheless, he remains concerned with responsibility: he demands compensation for damaged market stalls and defends the Xiao Clan’s dignity without taking over Xiao Yan’s personal dispute 5 7 8 20.
He protects his secrets and uses his knowledge of the original story selectively. He allows Xiao Yan to face hardships he considers important to his development, while quietly preserving his resources. With Xiao Yi Xian, he offers practical help and hope, but avoids promising a complete cure for her poison body 14 18 26 41.
Abilities & Skills
Thunderfire Dou Qi
Xiao Yuan possesses a rare dual thunder-and-fire attribute whose combined power is substantially more violent than ordinary single-attribute Dou Qi 1 6.
- Produces destructive elemental clashes; his fist colliding with Jia Lie Ao’s wind palm creates a three-coloured explosion 6.
- Gains tiger, serpent, and boar patterns after absorbing Beast Spirits’ child flames, making his Thunderfire stronger and more substantial 33 37 38.
- Nourishes and strengthens his body alongside the absorbed beast flames 39.
- Early all-out use leaves him depleted, injured, and suffering backlash rather than granting effortless superiority 6 7.
Dou Di Bloodline
His divine-grade bloodline awakens unusually early. Xun’er identifies its fluctuations as belonging to the Yan Clan and judges its grade to be at least eighth-tier; she notes that ordinary Yan Clan members generally begin displaying their bloodline at Dou Wang or above 1 14.
- Enables a pale-gold externalized Dou Qi barrier during his first battle 5 6.
- Replenishes his exhausted Dou Qi and pushes him to peak One-Star Dou Zhe 6.
- Forced activation causes serious backlash, including dizziness, weakness, and internal injuries 7.
- Disturbs the Golden Emperor Burning Heaven Flame within Xun’er when she approaches him 3.
Supreme Inheritance and Legacy Space
The inheritance exists within Xiao Yuan’s Soul Sea as an inner repository containing at least one hundred thousand spheres of cultivation knowledge. Absorbing a sphere conveys instructions, meridian diagrams, and even practice demonstrations 1 2.
- Blue spheres: Mortal Tier Spirit Arts 2.
- Purple spheres: Spirit Tier Spirit Arts, described as comparable in quality to Earth Tier cultivation methods 2.
- Golden spheres: Initially suspected to contain Divine Tier arts; one yields the unranked Ten Thousand Transformations Source-Dividing Art 2 3.
- Most inherited Spirit Arts require Great Thousand World spiritual energy. At low cultivation, converting his Dou Qi into that energy makes repeated use impractical 13.
- The Gilded Flame Canon names the future Flame Emperor Xiao Yan as its creator, leading Xiao Yuan to conclude that the inheritance comes from an era after Xiao Yan’s ascent 39.
Ten Thousand Transformations Source-Dividing Art
His principal cultivation method devours and refines energy into Origin, which can transform into powers including Dou Qi and soul power. Its later stages are incomplete 3 12.
- Energy refinement: Processes violent magic-core energy that could damage or kill an ordinary cultivator 9 11.
- Rapid recovery: A first-tier wind core restores more than half of his nearly depleted Dou Qi within a few breaths 22.
- Beast Spirit absorption: Defeats invading Beast Soul wills and assimilates their flame Origin 33 37.
- Poison treatment: Can absorb and break down excess poison through linked Dou Qi circulation with Xiao Yi Xian. The proposed treatment requires regular sessions and does not remove the underlying constitution 29 30.
- Resource demands: Ordinary ambient Dou Qi provides slow progress, while later breakthroughs require increasingly large quantities of energy 3 12.
The art’s incarnation stages are theoretical capabilities described by the method; Xiao Yuan is not shown creating an incarnation in the supplied chapters 3.
| Method Realm | Incarnations | Function |
|---|---|---|
| One Source | 1 | An independently acting incarnation formed from his Origin 3. |
| Three Sources | 3 | Incarnations can use techniques, withstand damage, and cultivate 3. |
| Six Sources | 6 | Their cultivation can feed back into the original body 3. |
| Nine Sources | 9 | Potentially allows ten Xiao Yuans, counting the original, to cultivate simultaneously 3. |
Thunderclap Finger
A high-grade Xuan/Profound Tier offensive Dou Technique gifted by Xun’er. It concentrates lightning at the fingertip to pierce an opponent’s defenses 13 14.
- Kills an Azure Wind Wolf leader with a single strike 22.
- Exploits weak points in the Ironspine Boar’s armor 38.
- At his early cultivation, its close-range, single-point attack limits its usefulness against multiple enemies 38 39.
Thunderflash
A mid-grade Xuan/Profound Tier movement technique that uses lightning’s explosive force for sudden advances and retreats 13.
- Supports rapid travel, evasive combat, ambushes, and escape 22 23 37.
- Repeated use consumes considerable Dou Qi, making magic-core replenishment valuable during wilderness training 22 23.
Mad Lion’s Roar
A mid-grade Xuan Tier sonic Dou Technique obtained from the hidden cave. Its description states that a mastered roar can shatter metal and shake stone 27.
- Briefly stuns pursuing Beast Spirits, creating openings to escape or attack 37 38.
- Xiao Yuan develops a lightning-infused variation that batters an opponent’s soul and is especially effective against weak soul power 36.
Ninefold Thunder Spear
A lower-grade Divine-level lightning Spirit Art that forms a spear from Dou Qi and strengthens it through up to nine lightning marks 39.
- Supports close-range sweeps and thrusts as well as long-range throws that detonate with lightning 39.
- Each additional mark increases its power; activating all nine produces a thunderstorm 39.
- Xiao Yuan learns basic spearmanship alongside it and can reliably form three marks after three months of training 39.
Gilded Flame Canon
A flame-control method attributed to Flame Emperor Xiao Yan. It harmonizes foreign fire seeds and reduces their backlash 39.
- Completely tames the three beast-flame origins within Xiao Yuan, calming their lingering wills 39.
- Gives him much finer control over foreign flames 39.
- He proposes using it to help channel and suppress Xiao Yi Xian’s poison, while acknowledging that a full cure remains uncertain 41.
Soul Perception and Medicinal Knowledge
- Soul perception: Checks cave passages for traps and poison formations, searches hidden compartments, and detects approaching people 26 27 31.
- Aura concealment: Suppresses his cultivation so most observers cannot accurately judge his strength 12 13 39.
- Herb identification: Memorizes medicinal plants’ appearances and properties from cave-acquired books, then gathers ingredients for future pill-making 32.
- Alchemy ambition: Plans to exchange Ice Spirit Flame Grass for Yao Lao’s alchemy notes; he has not formally become an Alchemist 31 32.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Totem of Undying — A chosen one-use resurrection reward housed within his soul; no activation is documented 1.
- Storage Ring — Worn on his right index finger; stores scrolls, money, herbs, cores, and travel provisions 14 22.
- Dragon-Pattern Jade Pendant — Gift from Xun’er that steadies his mind and helps temper dangerous fire energy during cultivation 10 11.
- Short blade — Used to extract magic cores from slain magical beasts 23.
- Eagle Wings scroll — High Xuan Tier flying Dou Technique obtained from the hidden cave; acquisition is documented, but use is not 27 30.
- Purifying Lotus Demon Flame remnant map — Secretly recovered from the cave owner’s skeleton and concealed from Xiao Yi Xian 27.
- Ice Spirit Flame Grass — Retained from the cave for a planned exchange with Xiao Yan and Yao Lao 30 31 32.
- Wilderness supplies — Dry rations, clean water, healing medicine, and a simple tent prepared before leaving Wutan City 22.
Relationships
- Xiao Zhan — Adoptive father and clan leader. Rewards his talent with Core Disciple status, reluctantly approves his wilderness training, and provides 100,000 gold coins 2 16 20.
- Xiao Yan — Adoptive older brother, whom Xiao Yuan calls his “third brother.” Initially distant, their bond warms after Xiao Yuan defends the fairness of the Three-Year Agreement. Xiao Yuan also quietly helps preserve his cultivation allotment 14 19 20 22.
- Xiao Xun’er — Fellow clan resident, benefactor, and increasingly close companion. Protects him from Ling Yin’s proposed intervention, treats his injuries, and supplies the pendant and lightning techniques 3 7 10 13 14.
- Xiao Ning — Friendly, competitive cousin. Seeks a sparring match and helps keep Xiao Yan’s resources intact; Xiao Yuan’s Five-Star result motivates him to train harder 14 15 16.
- Xiao Yi Xian — Cave-exploration partner and friend with growing affection. They divide treasures cooperatively, discuss treatment for her Woeful Poison Body, and reunite when Xiao Yuan protects her from Mu Li 29 30 31 40 41.
- Yao Lao — Xiao Yan’s teacher and the intended source of alchemy notes. Xiao Yuan knows his role through foreknowledge; a completed exchange or direct mentorship is not documented 16 31 32.
- Jia Lie Ao — Marketplace opponent. Xiao Yuan defeats him for coercing Xun’er and forces him to pay compensation, earning the Jia Lie Family’s resentment 5 6 7.
- Mu Li and Mu She — Wolf Head Mercenary Group antagonists. Xiao Yuan drives Mu Li away from Xiao Yi Xian; Mu Li subsequently returns with his father and armed mercenaries 40 41.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Rise in Wutan City
Xiao Yuan’s breakthrough at nine exposes both his exceptional talent and his powerful bloodline. The Xiao Clan’s lack of a suitable dual-attribute method sends him into his inheritance, where he obtains the Ten Thousand Transformations Source-Dividing Art 1 2 3.
His first public battle ends with Jia Lie Ao defeated but Xiao Yuan badly injured. He uses the victory to secure compensation for merchants, then obtains cultivation resources and enters seclusion. His later Five-Star Dou Zhe test result earns formal priority in the clan’s cultivation support 5 6 7 8 11 12 15 16.
The Three-Year Agreement
Although he initially intends to let Xiao Yan endure the engagement crisis independently, Xiao Yuan intervenes once the Three-Year Agreement is established. He insists that the Xiao Clan be represented and that the Misty Cloud Sect neither obstruct nor secretly interfere with the duel; the sect elder accepts 18 19 20.
Wilderness Training and the Hidden Cave
Leaving Wutan City as a Nine-Star Dou Zhe, Xiao Yuan seeks combat experience and resources. His hunting sharpens his technique and brings him into contact with Xiao Yi Xian. Their cave exploration yields rare techniques, medicinal plants, the Poison Scripture, and the flame remnant map 20 22 23 26 27.
He offers Xiao Yi Xian a practical method of controlling excess poison, then remains in the mountains to train and gather herbs. His early claim on the cave also changes the storyline he remembers, removing Mu Li’s later opportunity to discover it 29 30 32 39.
Myriad Beast Spirit Flame
After reaching Dou Shi, Xiao Yuan defeats the Crimson Flame Tiger and survives its Beast Soul’s attempt to overwhelm him. He identifies it as a child-flame puppet of the twenty-second-ranked Myriad Beast Spirit Flame and begins hunting isolated Second Tier Beast Spirits rather than approaching the main flame 32 33 34.
A dangerous pursuit exposes his limited arsenal. He retreats to train, reaching Six-Star Dou Shi while mastering spear combat and foreign-flame control. Subduing the main Heavenly Flame remains a future objective, not a completed achievement 37 38 39.
Return to Qingshan Town
Xiao Yuan returns to restock and finds Mu Li harassing Xiao Yi Xian. After forcing him to retreat, he renews his offer to help manage her poison and accompanies her shopping. Their outing ends with Mu She and armed mercenaries surrounding the Myriad Medicine Pavilion 39 40 41.
