Zhang Cheng glanced at her face and was instantly captivated by her beauty.
She had a delicate, oval face, gently arched eyebrows, large eyes, a high nose bridge, and a small, cherry-red mouth. She looked as though she had stepped straight out of an anime.
The other students were equally stunned at the sight of her, unable to say a word. The classroom fell silent.
A gentle voice rang out. "Hello, everyone. I'm the instructor for your Senior Year Elite Class One. Let me introduce myself: my name is Bai Yuling."
With that, Bai Yuling picked up a piece of chalk, turned around, and wrote her name on the blackboard.
"I'll be guiding your Pokémon training over the next year. You can call me Lingling. I look forward to working with all of you," Bai Yuling said playfully.
Zhang Cheng glanced around and found that almost all the boys were blushing with their heads lowered, not daring to look at their beautiful instructor.
His behavior also caught Bai Yuling's attention. While the other boys all lowered their heads, this young fellow alone dared to look her straight in the eye.
Zhang Cheng was no longer the little boy he had once been. With his wealth of life experience and his identity as a transmigrator, he carried himself with great confidence.
"Next, let's have everyone introduce themselves one at a time so I can get to know you," Bai Yuling said teasingly. "Let's start with this boy in the back row. Would you mind giving us a brief introduction?"
Naturally, Bai Yuling meant Zhang Cheng. His earlier behavior had piqued her curiosity, and she wanted to see whether this young fellow was really that composed.
Zhang Cheng was taken aback by her words. He had never expected her to single him out so soon, but he was only a little surprised. He stood up and introduced himself without hesitation.
"Hello, everyone. My name is Zhang Cheng. I'm a Jiangcheng local, and my starter Pokémon is a Poliwag. I look forward to getting along with all of you."
Zhang Cheng gave his brief introduction with easy confidence, then sat right back down.
The students applauded. Anyone who could introduce himself so calmly under these circumstances deserved some admiration.
"You're quite impressive, Zhang Cheng. I'd like to nominate you as our class monitor. What do you think?" Bai Yuling asked with a smile.
Zhang Cheng rubbed his nose and said helplessly, "I don't have a problem with it, but I think we should ask the other students what they think."
Zhang Cheng's reluctance to become class monitor had nothing to do with being embarrassed about interacting with Bai Yuling. He simply disliked handling miscellaneous chores. Once he became class monitor, he would no longer have so much freedom.
"Does anyone have any objections to Zhang Cheng becoming class monitor?" Bai Yuling asked the other students.
The boys remained silent. Only two girls spoke up. "No objections, teacher."
"Since no one objects, Zhang Cheng will be our class monitor from now on. Next, let's have everyone give a brief introduction in order, from front to back."
With the class monitor settled, Bai Yuling finally left him alone and began having the other students introduce themselves.
Most of the boys stammered through a couple of sentences before lowering their heads shyly and sitting down. The girls did somewhat better, all managing to finish their introductions smoothly.
Once the introductions were over, Bai Yuling continued with the course schedule. "Starting tomorrow, we'll begin our residential study and training program. Sundays will be your days off. You'll be free to do as you please, but you mustn't stray too far from school."
"Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, we'll have theory classes, where I'll explain more advanced Pokémon knowledge. Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays will be practical classes, where I'll guide your Pokémon through training and mock battles."
Bai Yuling explained the entire schedule in one go, then asked the students, "If you have any questions, you can ask them now. I'll answer them one by one."
Seeing that no one had any questions, Bai Yuling ended the class meeting and reminded everyone that lessons would begin tomorrow, so they should be prepared.
With that, Bai Yuling left the classroom. Before leaving, she gave Zhang Cheng another glance, but he did not notice.
He was too busy fretting over becoming class monitor. He would certainly have his hands full from now on.
The more he thought about it, the more annoyed he became. In the end, Zhang Cheng simply stopped thinking about it, stood up, and left the classroom.
People often wanted to clear their heads when they were irritated, and Zhang Cheng began wandering around the enclosed training grounds.
He would be living here for more than half a year, so this was a good opportunity to familiarize himself with the surroundings.
After wandering around all afternoon, Zhang Cheng felt considerably better. He happened to run into Ye Tian outside the teaching building, and the two headed to the cafeteria for dinner.
"So, did you meet your class instructor? Pretty, isn't she?" Ye Tian asked, patting Zhang Cheng on the shoulder.
Zhang Cheng rolled his eyes. "Yeah. She singled me out the moment we met and made me class monitor."
"You're amazing! You caught the beautiful instructor's attention as soon as you met her. How did you do it? Come on, give me some pointers," Ye Tian said flatteringly.
"Pointers, my ass. I didn't do anything. She just made me introduce myself, then dumped the class monitor job on me," Zhang Cheng lamented, holding his forehead.
"All right, all right. Let's forget about that and see what's for dinner." Seeing that Zhang Cheng did not want to discuss it, Ye Tian changed the subject.
"Right. Food is what really matters." With that, Zhang Cheng headed toward the cafeteria's serving counter.
After getting their food, the two chose a table near the corner and chatted as they ate.
"Ye Tian, did you use the Protect Technical Machine you bought yesterday on Butterfree? How well did it work?" Zhang Cheng asked him about the Technical Machine.
"I put it away after buying it and haven't used it yet. I've been in the classroom all day. When would I have had time?" Ye Tian said glumly.
"I'm planning to test out my Technical Machine tonight. Want to come along?" Zhang Cheng asked.
"Sure, sure! I've never used one before. Let's go try them out together after this." At the mention of using their Technical Machines, Ye Tian immediately perked up.
Technical Machines were single-use consumables. Each one could only be used on a single Pokémon. Once the Pokémon had absorbed its energy, the Technical Machine's disc would break.
However, a Technical Machine did not guarantee that a Pokémon would master the move. Whether it could do so still depended on its aptitude and how hard it worked.
