Drapion's defenses were fairly solid, and it also resisted Poison-type attacks. Muk's Gunk Shot packed plenty of power, but ultimately took only about a fifth of Drapion's HP.
After Gunk Shot hit, Slowbro's Thunder Wave followed close behind. Dense electric currents enveloped Drapion, but they did little damage; their main purpose was to restrict its movements.
Struck by Thunder Wave, Drapion fell into paralysis. Its speed dropped sharply, and any moves it attempted next could be interrupted.
Just as Slowbro and Muk finished their attacks, Drapion and Scolipede's offensive struck the Protect barrier Swampert had formed.
Waves of Dark-type energy battered the barrier continuously. Under the assault of Dark Pulse, the barrier began to tremble and show signs of breaking.
While Dark Pulse remained locked in a struggle with the barrier, Scolipede rushed up to it, raised its pincers, and unleashed X-Scissor.
As X-Scissor activated, Scolipede's pincers struck the barrier with powerful energy. Its attack broke the balance between the two forces.
The barrier finally failed to withstand X-Scissor and shattered.
After breaching the Protect barrier, Dark Pulse struck Swampert's body with its remaining power.
Scolipede's X-Scissor had exhausted its energy while breaking the barrier, leaving it unable to deal any further damage to Swampert.
Dark Pulse took a third of Swampert's HP. Drapion's offensive power was formidable—even after the barrier had weakened it, Dark Pulse still dealt this much damage.

Once the other Pokémon finished their attacks, Poliwrath had already reached Drapion. Powerful strength surged through its entire body as it suddenly seized Drapion in a tight embrace.
After grabbing Drapion, Poliwrath unleashed Submission. The two Pokémon rolled across the ground, locked together.
The rolling continued for nearly half a minute before finally stopping. After taking Muk's attack and then Poliwrath's powerful Submission, Drapion had only about two-fifths
