Zhang Cheng knew the effects of all kinds of Pokémon held items inside out, so the lack of a sales assistant made no difference.

After browsing the shop, Zhang Cheng bought a suitable item for each of his five Pokémon.

With rainy weather boosting Poliwrath's Water-type moves, they were already very powerful. Zhang Cheng therefore decided to strengthen Poliwrath's Fighting-type moves and bought a Black Belt, which increased their power.

All the moves Ampharos excelled at were Electric-type, so there was little to deliberate over. Zhang Cheng bought Ampharos a Magnet, which would boost the power of Electric-type moves when held.

Next, he chose a Sharp Beak for Pidgeot. It boosted the power of Flying-type moves, making it an excellent fit.

Swampert excelled at both Ground-type and Water-type moves. After a brief hesitation, Zhang Cheng chose a Mystic Water to strengthen the latter. With this item, Swampert could unleash even greater power in rainy weather.

Of course, Zhang Cheng could not leave out his darling daughter, Diancie. Since she was not particularly strong in battle yet, he chose a Soothe Bell rather than an item that would increase her combat power.

A Soothe Bell could increase the friendship between a Pokémon and its Trainer. Generally speaking, Legendary Pokémon started with slightly lower friendship toward their Trainers than ordinary Pokémon, though Zhang Cheng had never felt that was the case with Diancie.

Diancie was already very affectionate toward Zhang Cheng and relied heavily on him, but that did not stop him from buying a Soothe Bell. Of course he had to spoil his daughter—the higher her friendship, the better.

Having decided on the five items, Zhang Cheng took them from the shelves and went to the checkout.

Since he was buying several items at once, Zhang Cheng qualified for a discount.
