But things had not gone as planned. Zhang Cheng's Ampharos had overwhelming offensive power and plenty of battle experience. Mismagius could gain no advantage and had been forced to use Destiny Bond.
If Mismagius waited any longer to use Destiny Bond, it might lose even the chance to take Ampharos down with it.
A peculiar energy emerged from Mismagius's body and shot out instantly, striking Ampharos in a fraction of a second.
The energy did not damage Ampharos, however. Instead, it established a special link between the two Pokémon.
Ampharos's Thunder soon struck Mismagius. With only about a sixth of its HP remaining, Mismagius could not withstand the attack and fainted on the spot.
A second after Mismagius fainted, a terrifying force erupted inside Ampharos. It came so suddenly that there was no way to guard against it.
Under the effects of that energy, Ampharos's HP was instantly depleted, and it fainted just as Mismagius had.
