He had thought today would be another chance to put an upstart like Zhang Cheng in his place and show him that reaching Junior Champion rank was no easy feat.

But he had never expected Zhang Cheng to be this strong. He fought nothing like a Trainer whose Pokémon had only just reached level sixty. Even the Gyarados Han Tian had personally raised had been defeated.

The Pokémon used by examiners like them were issued by the League. Their species and levels were carefully controlled, so Trainers with sufficient skill could generally pass.

But Han Tian had been arrogant from the start, believing he could easily defeat Zhang Cheng. As the battle unfolded, however, he realized something was wrong and had eventually been forced to send out his own Gyarados.

Even Gyarados had failed to overpower his opponent's Pokémon. After its defeat, Han Tian had sent out Snorlax, the strongest Pokémon permitted by the League for the assessment.

As things stood, Zhang Cheng had effectively already passed the assessment for the Junior Champion Trainer title, since he had defeated the strongest Pokémon.

But Han Tian had no intention of letting Zhang Cheng get his way. After Snorlax was defeated, he never even considered continuing with the Pokémon provided by the League.

There was simply no way those ordinary League-issued Pokémon could defeat Zhang Cheng.
