This Primarina's Ability converted sound-based moves into Water-type moves, allowing even Normal-type sound moves to benefit from her own Water-type damage bonus.
Paired with the held item Mystic Water, it would further boost the power of her Water-type moves.
A Primarina with that combination of Ability and held item was enough to leave any opponent in despair.
Next, the students brought out their Pokémon to battle Primarina, but none of them accomplished much.
After brief exchanges, the students were defeated one after another.
They were all novice Trainers, after all. Against such a powerful Pokémon, they could not think of any way to fight back. Not one of them managed to pose even the slightest threat to Primarina.
Once the battles were over, Bai Yuling also offered each student guidance on the shortcomings they had shown in combat.
With that guidance, they could identify problems in how they raised and trained their Pokémon and correct them promptly.
It was through this process of learning and building battle experience that their Pokémon would grow stronger and stronger.
The day passed in a series of battles. As evening approached, the day's practical combat class came to an end, and Zhang Cheng left the Training Ground to check on Poliwag in the Treatment Room.
Bai Yuling went with him. Zhang Cheng had brought her Altaria to the Treatment Room as well, so they could pick up their Pokémon together.
"I don't think you're anything like a novice Trainer, little guy. Faced with a situation like today's, you didn't panic at all, and you even came up with an effective countermeasure," Bai Yuling said thoughtfully.
"It was just an idea that suddenly came to me, so I decided to give it a try. How would I know what would happen without trying?" Zhang Cheng explained.
"You're pretty impressive, little guy. I have high hopes for you. With a performance like that, you'll have your pick of the Nation's Eight Prestigious Schools," Bai Yuling teased.
"Come on, don't mess with me. I know perfectly well where I stand. Save that for when I actually get accepted," Zhang Cheng said helplessly.
Bai Yuling covered her mouth and chuckled, her thoughts a mystery.
The two chatted as they walked and soon arrived at the Treatment Room.
As soon as they entered, they saw Poliwag and Altaria playing together.
Chirru~ Chirru~
Poli~ Poli~
The two Pokémon were chatting and romping around together. Both seemed to have recovered well, and they had even become good friends.
When the two playful Pokémon saw their Trainers arrive, they stopped fooling around and obediently went to their respective Trainers' sides, like two mischievous children seeing their parents.
Seeing how well-behaved they were, Zhang Cheng affectionately stroked Poliwag's head, and Poliwag nuzzled against him.
Looking at the docile Altaria beside him, Zhang Cheng could not resist reaching out to stroke her feathers as well.
Altaria was very sensitive to his touch. She pulled her wing away and gave Zhang Cheng a mild glare.
Seeing Altaria's reaction, Bai Yuling chuckled. "This Altaria is very gentle, but she doesn't like strangers. She'll be better once she's spent more time with you."
"So that's how it is. Then you'll have to give me more chances to spend time with Altaria, haha. I really like her feathers," Zhang Cheng joked.
To his surprise, Bai Yuling answered seriously, "No problem. Come over when you have time. I have plenty of Pokémon you can help look after."
Zhang Cheng's face darkened. Wasn't she just making me her laborer to take care of her Pokémon?
"No problem. I'll be there whenever you call," Zhang Cheng said, choosing the safer response.
With that, Zhang Cheng was about to leave the Treatment Room with his Pokémon. Just as he was getting ready to go, Bai Yuling suddenly asked, "Are you going to get dinner?"
Zhang Cheng froze. Was this beautiful instructor asking to have dinner with me? Wasn't this moving a little too fast? Damn.
As those thoughts ran through his mind, Zhang Cheng answered quietly, "Yes."
"Oh, then bring me a takeout meal when you're done. I've been busy all day, and I don't feel like moving."
???
Those three question marks summed up Zhang Cheng's thoughts at that moment. He had read far too much into it.
"Sure, no problem," Zhang Cheng said quickly.
"Why do I get the feeling you're a little disappointed?" Bai Yuling asked, narrowing her eyes.
"Not at all. You're imagining things. If there's nothing else, I'll go get dinner." With that, Zhang Cheng hurried out of the Treatment Room.
Bai Yuling remained where she stood, watching Zhang Cheng leave, her thoughts unreadable.
When Zhang Cheng arrived at the Cafeteria, he immediately spotted Ye Tian digging into his food.
After getting a meal, Zhang Cheng went over and sat beside Ye Tian.
"Where did you run off to after class this afternoon? I saw you at your class's Training Ground before class ended, but the moment it was over, you disappeared," Ye Tian asked in confusion.
"Poliwag got hurt during today's battle class, so I left Poliwag in the Treatment Room. I went straight there after class," Zhang Cheng explained.
"Oh, I see. Has Poliwag recovered? It wasn't anything serious, was it?" Ye Tian asked.
"Just some minor injuries. Poliwag's already recovered. By the way, how did your practical combat class go today?" Zhang Cheng asked as he ate.
"Don't get me started. I thought we'd be battling the instructor, but instead they had us find classmates to spar with," Ye Tian said helplessly.
Ye Tian wanted to battle high-level Pokémon so he could build up his combat experience.
Zhang Cheng understood what Ye Tian was thinking and said bluntly, "Don't be so impatient. You'll definitely get a chance later."
Ye Tian nodded, and the two continued eating dinner.
After dinner, Ye Tian watched in confusion as Zhang Cheng walked toward the serving counter. What was this guy up to?
A short while later, Zhang Cheng returned to Ye Tian with a packed dinner. Seeing his puzzled expression, Zhang Cheng volunteered an explanation. "Our class's instructor asked me to bring her dinner."
Ye Tian gave him a knowing look. "You're a role model for all of us, man. I won't get in your way. Make the most of it." With that, he left the Cafeteria first.
Watching Ye Tian walk away, Zhang Cheng had no idea how to explain. Any explanation might only look like an excuse, so perhaps not explaining was the best explanation.
With that thought, Zhang Cheng stopped dwelling on it and carried the packed dinner to the Teacher Dormitory.
Since they had exchanged contact information that morning, Bai Yuling had already sent Zhang Cheng her dorm address.
Bai Yuling lived in room 502 of Building One in the Teacher Dormitory. Zhang Cheng took the elevator up to her door and knocked gently.
