Facing this attack from Primarina, Zhang Cheng knew Poliwrath would be knocked out outright if he had it take the hit head-on, but blocking it with Protect would not solve the underlying problem either.
In the end, Zhang Cheng chose to use Endure to weather Primarina's attack, then turn the tables with Endeavor.
"Poli! Poli!"
Poliwrath abandoned its attack, drawing in a tremendous amount of energy to reinforce its body and keep itself from being knocked out.
The brilliant light struck Poliwrath head-on. The instant it touched its skin, a tremendous surge of energy erupted, inflicting heavy damage across its body.
That terrifying blow would normally have knocked Poliwrath out in an instant, but thanks to Endure, it clung stubbornly to its final sliver of HP.
"Now, Poliwrath! Use Endeavor!"
After weathering Primarina's attack, Zhang Cheng used Poliwrath's last sliver of HP to unleash Endeavor.
"Poli!"
With a fierce look in its eyes, Poliwrath unleashed tremendous power throughout its body. It rushed up to Primarina and slammed its muscular frame into its opponent.
Endeavor struck Primarina, reducing its HP to a final sliver as well. Both Pokémon were now severely injured.
"Primarina, attack with Water Gun!"
"Poliwrath, use Bubble Beam!"
The two gave their commands at the same time, as though perfectly in sync, launching their final attacks.
Pokémon at critical HP had little strength left, and powerful moves took a long time to launch. At such a crucial moment, using the most basic moves was the best choice.
After all, either Pokémon would be knocked out by a single hit from any attack.
Primarina used the last of the water energy in its body to form a slender jet of water and fired it at Poliwrath.
