Jynx had only just stood up after its attack missed when Pidgeot struck it squarely in the back.
Fly was a physical move, and Jynx's Physical Defense was low. Taking a hit to the back under these circumstances left it with only two-fifths of its HP.

After the first attempt failed, Qin Yi ordered Jynx to use Lovely Kiss again. Pidgeot was very close to Jynx now, giving the move a high chance of landing.
