Toxapex used Poison-type energy to form a bunker of poisonous spikes, enclosing its entire body.
The Hypnosis Wave struck the bunker without producing any effect.
"Those little tricks are useless. I bet you've already run out of ways to deal with Toxapex," Zhao Kuang said smugly.
This Toxapex had brought him plenty of success in competitions. Pokémon like it were extremely rare and simply couldn't be dealt with using ordinary tactics.
Most Trainers unfamiliar with Toxapex suffered badly when they faced Zhao Kuang.

Zhang Cheng ignored Zhao Kuang. Taking advantage of the brief opening after Toxapex finished using Baneful Bunker, he had Poliwrath use its superior speed to land a Dynamic Punch before Toxapex could use another move.
Zhang Cheng had to seize that opening to attack. Otherwise, once Toxapex used Baneful Bunker again, the toxins on it would leave Poliwrath poisoned.
Although Dynamic Punch wasn't as powerful as Water-type moves in rainy weather, it was guaranteed to cause confusion. That was the effect Zhang Cheng needed; any damage was merely a bonus.
