Over the past two days of battles and training, Poliwag had reached Level 12, while Pidgey had risen to Level 9 through training.
Pidgey had also learned the Egg Move Air Slash during recent training, giving Pidgey more ways to attack.
Next, Zhang Cheng planned to focus on training Pidgey and improving Pidgey's fighting strength.
His opponents in the recent matches had all been fairly strong, so Zhang Cheng had been unable to send Pidgey into battle.
But without actual battle experience, Pidgey would struggle to improve quickly, creating a vicious cycle.
Getting stronger required real battles, but the Pokémon they encountered in those battles were all at relatively high Levels.
So Zhang Cheng planned to take Pidgey into the wild to battle and grow stronger.
After finishing his training with Ye Tian, Zhang Cheng went to the school's Pokémon shop and spent five thousand Pokémon Coins on some Pokéblocks his Pokémon enjoyed.
He only had five thousand Pokémon Coins left now. He had to find a way to earn more, or he would soon have nothing to live on.
After buying the Pokéblocks, Zhang Cheng returned to his dorm, took out his purchases, and handed them to his two Pokémon.
Once they received the Pokéblocks, the two Pokémon happily dug in.
After they polished off the Pokéblocks, Zhang Cheng began massaging both Pokémon to ease the fatigue from their recent training.
The Pokémon thoroughly enjoyed having a full-body massage after eating and drinking their fill.
Once he finished the massages, Zhang Cheng went to the bathroom for a quick wash, then turned off the lights and went to sleep.
In his dream, Zhang Cheng found himself already in the Safari Zone, where he encountered several Pokémon.
When Zhang Cheng woke up the next morning, he thought back to his dream, but no matter how hard he tried, he could not remember which Pokémon he had encountered.
Zhang Cheng simply stopped dwelling on it. After getting up and washing, he arrived early at the meeting point below the classroom building.
After a short wait, Liu Feng, Class Two's instructor, arrived along with Ye Tian and another student from Class Two. Once everyone was there, Liu Feng released his Pokémon.
The Pokémon Liu Feng released was a Charizard. This Charizard had a fairly gentle temperament and wagged his tail at everyone after appearing.
Curious about how strong Liu Feng's Charizard was, Zhang Cheng immediately opened the system to check:
Name: Charizard (level 59) Gender: Male Potential: B Type: Fire, Flying Held item: Charcoal Basic moves: Scratch, Growl, Ember, Smokescreen, Dragon Rage, Scary Face, Fire Fang, Flame Burst, Slash, Flamethrower, Fire Spin Learned moves: Overheat, Roost, Aerial Ace Egg moves: Dragon Pulse, Metal Claw, Flare Blitz Ability: Blaze (When HP falls below one-third, the power of Fire-type moves increases to 1.5 times its original value.) Notes: Charizard, the Flame Pokémon, is the evolved form of Charmeleon and has both Fire and Flying-type attributes. The more grueling battles Charizard experiences, the hotter his flames become.
This Charizard's Level was considerably higher than that of Bai Yuling's Altaria. Liu Feng was probably the strongest teacher at the school right now.
Yet that comparison only made Zhang Cheng realize how frighteningly strong Bai Yuling was.
Liu Feng had graduated long ago and had been teaching for years, yet his Pokémon had only reached Level 59. Bai Yuling was still in college, but her strength was already approaching his.
"In a moment, follow me onto Charizard's back. He'll take us to the Safari Zone," Liu Feng told everyone.
"Raaawr! Raaawr!"
Hearing his Trainer's words, Charizard indicated that it was no problem, flapping his wings as he called out.
Zhang Cheng and the others were thrilled to hear that Liu Feng would have them ride Charizard to the Safari Zone.
They had never experienced riding a Flying-type Pokémon before. The only Pokémon ride Zhang Cheng and Ye Tian had taken was on a Rapidash during their previous trip to the Challenge Tower.
Once everyone was ready, Liu Feng ordered Charizard to lower his body so the three students could climb onto his back, then followed them up.
After everyone was settled, Charizard let out a roar and swiftly soared into the sky.
"Don't move around during the flight. Be careful—you could fall off if you shift around too much," Liu Feng warned the three students.
Zhang Cheng, Ye Tian, and the other student nodded in understanding. Falling off was certainly no joke; they were already at least several thousand meters above the ground.
During the flight, Zhang Cheng gazed at the scenery around them, thoroughly enjoying the feeling.
Once Pidgey evolves into Pidgeot, I'll be able to soar freely through the sky too, Zhang Cheng thought.
Half an hour later, Charizard began slowing down. They were about to reach Jiangcheng City's Safari Zone.
Charizard landed in front of the Safari Zone's main gate, and the four of them jumped down from his back.
Liu Feng led the three students to the registration desk at the entrance. After speaking with a staff member for a while, he walked back with nine Poké Balls.
"These Poké Balls are specially made for the Safari Zone. Once you go inside, you aren't allowed to bring your own Poké Balls. You can only use the Safari Zone's Poké Balls to catch Pokémon."
Liu Feng explained the rules to them. "Each person will receive three Poké Balls, but once you obtain one Pokémon, you aren't allowed to catch another."
"If you use up all three Poké Balls, you won't be able to catch any Pokémon. At that point, your only way to obtain a Pokémon will be to find a Pokémon Egg in the Wild Area. Of course, the same rule applies: once you've obtained a Pokémon, you can't catch another."
The three nodded to show they understood. Seeing that they had no questions, Liu Feng handed them the Poké Balls.
Then, with their Poké Balls in hand, the three followed a staff member into the Safari Zone.
"The Safari Zone is enormous. Here's a map. There are plenty of Bicycles throughout the Wild Area, and you can use any of them free of charge." As the staff member spoke, they handed maps to the three students.
"You're free to catch Pokémon inside now, but you must stay in the outer section of the Wild Area. The Pokémon farther inside are at higher Levels, so venturing in recklessly could be dangerous."
After learning the rules, the three headed into the Wild Area.
The other student from Ye Tian's class was named Fang Han, a Trainer who used Squirtle.
After entering the Wild Area, Fang Han set off alone to catch the Pokémon he wanted.
After all, he was not close to either of them, so there was no need to stick together and make conversation.
After giving it some thought, Zhang Cheng and Ye Tian decided to split up as well.
That way, they could avoid encountering a Pokémon they both wanted and then not knowing who should get it.
The two headed in different directions, neither knowing what kind of Pokémon they would obtain this time.
