Sun Hai ordered Alakazam to unleash its most powerful strike, Hyper Beam. With Alakazam's high Special Attack, the move would deal terrifying damage.
Holding its spoons, Alakazam gathered all the surrounding energy into a deep yellow sphere of light and blasted it toward Kingdra.
"Kingdra, quick, use Protect!"
Zhang Cheng had no intention of having Kingdra take this attack head-on. Kingdra had already lost some HP in the previous exchange, and Alakazam's Hyper Beam was incredibly powerful. If it knocked Kingdra out in one hit, he would be in trouble.
Battling was all about playing it safe. Unless taking a risk was absolutely necessary, there was no reason to do so. A steady approach was the best strategy.

Kingdra skillfully used Normal-type energy to create a sturdy barrier that defended against every incoming attack.

That was because Alakazam would be left immobilized after using Hyper Beam. This was Kingdra's opportunity.

Zhang Cheng chose to have Kingdra attack with Waterfall once more. The previous Waterfall had already taken away half of Alakazam's HP, so this attack had a good chance of defeating it.
