Zapdos's HP dropped rapidly to less than half, leaving it in a dangerous condition.
Zeraora, on the other hand, had only taken minor damage from that exchange. A clear gap had now opened between the two Pokémon.

After using Giga Impact, Zeraora would be unable to move for a while. Sun Hai seized that precious opportunity and hurriedly ordered Zapdos to use Roost to recover.

At its current HP, Zapdos would not be able to withstand the blow even if it used Protect to reduce the damage.
