The Chiyou Threefold Scripture was not written by Chiyou, but by his former subordinates.
After the Yellow Emperor killed Chiyou, his head and limbs were suppressed in separate places. The tribes under him were also punished by the Yellow Emperor: those guilty of heinous crimes suffered the harshest executions, those with lesser offenses were suppressed and imprisoned, and great Monsters who stubbornly clung to evil were all slaughtered. Those willing to repent could surrender and return.
Many of Chiyou's ministers were taken into the Yellow Emperor's service, and all his tribes were absorbed into the order of Yan and Huang.
Although many outwardly obeyed the Yellow Emperor, they still secretly yearned for Chiyou. Once the Yellow Emperor left the mortal world and ascended, they began to act. Some gathered Chiyou's remains and even built a great tomb for him on Mount Buzhou, burying his bones there.
Others assembled to organize and compile the teachings Chiyou had promoted. The work continued from the time after the Yellow Emperor until the Xia Dynasty, when it finally became three scriptures: the Chiyou Threefold Scripture.
Chiyou's own learning had been exceedingly diverse. He had inherited the great Ways of ancient sages such as Di Jun, Xihe, and Changxi, and had also comprehended his own "Way of Chiyou." Integrating them into a coherent whole, he had created many spells. There were also the witchcraft traditions of the tribes that had helped him wage war, as well as the cultivation methods of Monsters and fiends.
The threefold divisions were the Gods plate, the Monster plate, and the fiend plate, each emphasizing different cultivation methods. Geng Kun's volume was the middle scripture, the Monster plate, which comprehensively recorded matters concerning Monsters. The volume Red Cloud had obtained was the lower one, the fiend plate.
