Back when Shi Feiyang divined the future, he had devised a sword-refining method specifically suited to the Xuanyuan Sword's properties and taught it to Shi Zhu, telling him to nurture and refine the swords carefully.
Yellow Mountain owed its name to Yellow Emperor Xuanyuan, who had gathered herbs and refined Alchemy, drawn water and forged swords, cultivated, and attained Ascension there. The mountain held such sites as Xuanyuan Peak, Alchemy Peak, Rongcheng Peak, Fu Qiu Peak, Herb-Washing Stream, Herb-Drying Terrace, and Elixir Well.
The Xuanyuan Nine Swords had also been forged on this mountain. Shi Zhu reopened the old sites once used by the Yellow Emperor and led Qiu Yuan and the Yellow Mountain Sect disciples in channeling water and feeding the fires. Aligning the swords inwardly with the Nine Heavens and outwardly with the Nine Earths, they followed the numbers of the circumcelestial cycle and refined them eighteen times, repeatedly transforming them from substantial to insubstantial.
Now, when unleashed, the Xuanyuan Swords became nine dragons. These were not made by slaughtering true dragons and taking their souls to forge swords, as in demonic path spells, but were true-form artifact spirits nurtured into being, like those of the Seven Cultivation Swords.
Since they could freely shift between form and formlessness, substance and insubstantiality, Chiyou's Heavenly Divine Swords could not cut them apart.
Thousand-zhang dragons condensed from the golden light of the Nine Heavens wheeled and soared, circling back and forth amid surging golden rosy clouds, their scales and claws appearing and vanishing unpredictably.
