Xin Ruyu, in the guise of a Daoist nun, had restored the appearance she had worn over a thousand years ago and walked slowly into Hundred Flowers Cave.
Watching her enter, Master Youtan sat on his couch and smiled faintly. "Daoist Xin, please sit. Xia'er, serve the tea."
Xin Ruyu sat down in a chair and glanced at the tea Qi Xia'er brought her. She did not drink it, but instead looked Master Youtan up and down.
Master Youtan asked with a smile, "What brings you to Hundred Flowers Mountain as our guest, fellow Daoist, and why have you made such a grand display?"
Xin Ruyu said, "Why ask when you already know, Master? Naturally, I came to invite you to enter final nirvana."
"I still have some worldly ties left unresolved. I cannot enter final nirvana yet."
"But I have come today, so you must enter final nirvana immediately. Tell me whatever wishes you have left unfulfilled, and I will fulfill them for you."
Master Youtan still wore a smile. "My first wish is to kill you, a heretic masquerading as a Buddhist. If you are willing to kill yourself today, I will enter final nirvana tomorrow."
Xin Ruyu did not grow angry. "I am no heretic masquerading as a Buddhist. I belong to the Orthodox Buddhist Sect."
Master Youtan asked, "If you belong to the Orthodox Buddhist Sect, why do you dress your true self in Daoist garb?"
Xin Ruyu chuckled. "Am I dressed as a Daoist now? Through my Dharma eye, I see every trade and profession beneath heaven, every human and beast, dressed as Buddhists! In essence, all possess Buddha-nature; in appearance, all bear the image of a Buddha. These clothes of mine are no different from a hundred-patch kasaya made from discarded rags."
