In the northeastern reaches of the Underworld, in the land of Ren-Gui, lay a vast, desolate sea whose waters reeked of filth. At its center stood a great mountain called Mount Beiyin Fengdu Luo.
Mount Fengdu Luo contained countless hells. All humans, gods, monsters, and ghosts, all flying birds and roaming beasts, all beings born from wombs, eggs, moisture, or transformation, all creatures with scales, shells, feathers, or fur, all plants and creatures that moved, flew, or swam fell under its jurisdiction.
One of these hells lay at the bottom of the Beiyin Sea and was called Blood Lake Hell. It was divided into four subsidiary hells: Blood Pool Hell, Blood Basin Hell, Blood Mountain Hell, and Blood Sea Hell.
These four hells were connected by the Blood River and ruled by the Blood Lake Great God.
This hell was utterly terrifying. Those who fell into it were covered in bloody filth, their stench rising to the heavens. Ghost wardens battered and tortured them with golden hammers and iron rods. Hungry, they ate raging fire; thirsty, they drank from the Blood Pool. They died and revived ten thousand times, unable to escape.
The Blood Lake was so foul that even an ordinary Heavenly Immortal could not escape after falling into it. Even if they managed to get out, reincarnation awaited them as insects or beasts, and several more lifetimes would pass before they could regain a human body.
As for other humans, gods, monsters, and ghosts, there was no need to even mention them. Once they went in, they could all but forget about ever getting out...
Yet Taiyi Heavenly Venerable Who Rescues the Suffering had once made a great vow to deliver the beings trapped here, and had a Hell-Breaking Formation for that very purpose.
