Ch. 301Shi Longgu and Sun Lingbo
Key plot points and events
- Shi Feiyang sends Shi Longgu the recovered Mysterious Maiden Needles through the Nine Demon Infants, along with an invitation to join his new immortal market in Tianjin. He offers her a safe place to cultivate and refine magical weapons.
- Delighted to have her mother’s treasured needles restored, Shi Longgu accepts at once. Her thoughts of Shi Feiyang are complicated: despite the suffering he once caused her, she credits him—and the ordeal of her Demon Tribulation—with strengthening her resolve and advancing her cultivation.
- On the way to Tianjin, she hears a young man calling for help and finds him fleeing a woman who is using sinister magic to prey on him. Shi Longgu intervenes. After her sword proves insufficient, she uses her mother’s Five-Fire Scarlet Miasma Banner and Twin Dragon Scissors to kill the attacker, whose body is devoured by the hidden Demon Infants.
- Shi Longgu discovers the woman’s companion on the ridge and learns that her victim had escaped with the help of a magical set of Nine-Dragon Coins. The companion identifies herself as Sun Lingbo, a Kunlun disciple and pupil of Shi Longgu’s mother’s friend, Yin Sutang.
- Sun Lingbo explains her friendship with the slain woman, Zhu Fengxian: the two had competed for handsome men, then become allies. She shows no desire to avenge Zhu.
- Sun Lingbo tries to draw Shi Longgu into her libertine lifestyle, but Shi Longgu rejects the invitation and insists she has no interest in Sun Lingbo’s pursuits.
Character developments
- Shi Longgu is eager to reunite with Shi Feiyang and grateful for the return of her mother’s weapons. Her ordeal has made her more disciplined and less driven by worldly desires than she might otherwise have been.
- Sun Lingbo is presented as playful, shameless, and accustomed to competing with other women for men. Though she seeks Shi Longgu’s friendship, their values differ.
- Shi Feiyang remains absent from the main action but shapes it: his gift and invitation give Shi Longgu hope and a new direction.
- The fleeing young man proves resourceful, using the Nine-Dragon Coins to resist Zhu Fengxian’s magic and escape.
