Ch. 541Red Lotus Old Demon

Key plot points and events

  • Zhuge Han’e, feeling abandoned after Shi Feiyang fails to come after her, wanders into the mountains and encounters the Red Lotus Old Demon. Drawn to his charm and apparent refinement, she visits his spectacular grotto-heaven and gradually forgets both home and Shi.
  • The chapter explains the demon’s long-running scheme against Holy Maiden Jiayin. He engineered her hatred of him to create a karmic bond, then repeatedly tried to claim her. Jiayin came to Western Kunlun hoping to sever that bond through Buddhist cultivation, but Red Lotus eventually captured her and brought her to his realm.
  • Jiayin reveals the truth about Red Lotus to Han’e. Han’e doubts her and initially chooses to believe the demon, until he drops his disguise and announces that he will make Han’e a demon consort and Jiayin his demon empress. She discovers he already has dozens of consorts.
  • Unable to escape, Han’e returns to Jiayin, who teaches her a mental cultivation method and warns her not to seek out Red Lotus or let his schemes sway her.
  • Red Lotus and Jiayin battle repeatedly for more than twenty years. Unable to overcome Jiayin’s defenses, he uses spells during their fights to tempt Han’e with visions of past and future lives, family ties, and possible children. Han’e secretly learns these spells from him.

Character development

  • Han’e shifts from lonely and emotionally dependent to infatuated with Red Lotus, then frightened and disillusioned when his true intentions emerge. Despite Jiayin’s warning, her longing to understand her family and past makes her vulnerable to the demon’s manipulations.
  • Jiayin is resolute and disciplined. Aware that her attachment and anger obstruct spiritual liberation, she faces Red Lotus without yielding, while trying to protect Han’e and guide her toward self-control.
  • Red Lotus Old Demon is exposed as a patient, manipulative predator: he uses charm, an artificial paradise, concealment, and carefully chosen spells to control his targets.
  • Shi Feiyang remains absent, but his failure to pursue Han’e fuels her loneliness and makes her receptive to Red Lotus.

Significant themes

  • Manipulation disguised as affection: Red Lotus’s apparent kindness and romance conceal exploitation.
  • Attachment and spiritual hindrance: Jiayin’s hatred and Han’e’s yearning both leave them open to entanglement and obstruct clear judgment.
  • Truth, illusion, and temptation: The beautiful grotto-heaven and the visions of the Three-Life spell blur reality with fantasy.
  • Loneliness and the need for belonging: Han’e’s sense of abandonment drives her toward a dangerous substitute for family and security.

Character interactions

  • Han’e’s faith in Red Lotus conflicts with Jiayin’s warnings, leaving her caught between the two.
  • Jiayin acts as Han’e’s reluctant protector and teacher, offering guidance while confronting her own adversary.
  • Red Lotus avoids confronting Han’e directly; instead, he manipulates her indirectly through spells aimed at stirring her curiosity and emotional attachments.

Ch. 542Legends of Uncle

  • Han E’s betrayal and the Holy Maiden’s defeat: The old Red Lotus demon secretly uses demonic magic to influence Han E while the Holy Maiden is distracted by an ongoing psychological assault. After twelve years, Han E attacks her from behind during a battle, helping the demon defeat and capture her. He sends her spirit through six successive lives, then installs her as his Demon Empress—but cannot break the core of resolve she has preserved. The Emei Sect’s distant restraints on his spirit also keep him in check, leaving the two sides in another stalemate. He does not take Han E as his consort, and Han E’s remorse over the betrayal repeatedly clashes with the conviction she feels while practicing demonic arts.
  • Ling Yunfeng becomes Han E’s prisoner: Isolated in the demon’s grotto-heaven, Han E captures Ling Yunfeng, her former disciple, whose nascent soul is now weakened and vulnerable. Han E bitterly accuses her of betraying her master and tortures her inside a red lotus. Ling Yunfeng tries to soften Han E by mentioning Emei acquaintances, but only the name of Shi Feiyang catches her attention. Han E stops the torture to hear news of him.
  • Stories as survival—and a connection: Ling Yunfeng recounts what she has heard about Shi Feiyang, then embellishes and invents tales in which he triumphs over enemies. Han E eagerly listens, sparing Ling Yunfeng further punishment while keeping her imprisoned. Ling Yunfeng assumes Han E is being fooled, but Han E’s demonic art lets her read thoughts; she knows the stories are fabricated and enjoys them anyway.
  • The Red Lotus demon’s predicament: The chapter explains that the ancient demon has hidden from heavenly tribulation inside his grotto-heaven for centuries. He emerged because he sensed a coming cosmic calamity that may destroy it. To survive, he needs to perfect a demonic body by absorbing the Holy Maiden, but her inner resistance has defeated all his efforts. His patience is running out.
  • A new arrival: Ancestor Haha—appearing as a thought-born body he concealed before his death—arrives at the grotto entrance. The Red Lotus demon greets him cautiously, and Haha claims he has come to help resolve the demon’s predicament.
Character developments and relationships: Han E is both a betrayer burdened by remorse and a powerful captor, yet her fascination with Shi Feiyang reveals a persistent emotional attachment. Ling Yunfeng’s former certainty that she could “save” Han E gives way to desperate improvisation, as she uses stories to stay alive. The Holy Maiden remains unbroken despite defeat and spiritual ordeals. The Red Lotus demon’s control is threatened not only by her resistance but by the approaching destruction of his refuge.
Themes: The chapter explores corrupted loyalty and divided conscience, the endurance of inner conviction, and the ways people use memory and storytelling to forge connection or survive captivity. It also builds tension around the limits of demonic power and the looming calamity that may erase the demon’s sanctuary.

Ch. 543Heaven-and-Earth Union Incense

Key plot points and events

  • Red Lotus Old Demon learns from Ancestor Haha that he must unite his spirit and vital energy with Holy Maiden Jiayin to survive the coming calamity. Haha recommends Heaven-and-Earth Union Incense, a treasure said to compel harmony between yin and yang.
  • Red Lotus, eager to obtain the incense, secretly travels from his grotto-heaven toward Heaven Beyond Divine Mountain, despite the risk that staying away too long will provoke heavenly tribulation.
  • Shi Feiyang receives a letter from Ni Fangxian warning that the world is nearing a great transformation, pleading indirectly for Jiayin’s rescue, and revealing Red Lotus’s plans, powers, and weaknesses.
  • Anticipating Red Lotus’s arrival, Shi Feiyang disguises himself as Ancestor Haha and intercepts him at the Earth’s Axis. He claims to have subdued the “sinful dragon” and acquired the incense.
  • Shi Feiyang deliberately talks at length about his plans and treasures, wasting Red Lotus’s limited time outside his grotto-heaven. He eventually gives Red Lotus one incense stick.
  • Red Lotus leaves in a hurry, promising a reward if the incense proves effective. Shi Feiyang then follows him toward Red Lotus’s stronghold.

Character developments and interactions

  • Red Lotus Old Demon is revealed as powerful but constrained by his secluded life and the threat of heavenly tribulation. His desperation to obtain the incense makes him impatient and susceptible to Shi Feiyang’s stalling.
  • Shi Feiyang shows strategic cunning and comic improvisation: he exploits Red Lotus’s ignorance and urgency, impersonates Ancestor Haha, and keeps him occupied until the desired moment.
  • Ni Fangxian emerges as a concerned intermediary. Her letter offers Shi Feiyang vital intelligence and conveys her hope that he will help Jiayin without making a direct demand.
  • The encounter between Shi Feiyang and Red Lotus is outwardly cordial but built on deception: Red Lotus suspects Haha’s motives, yet never realizes that he is speaking to Shi Feiyang.

Significant themes

  • Preparation for upheaval: The approaching calamity threatens to transform the mortal world, prompting characters to seek refuge, alliances, and powerful remedies.
  • Desire and manipulation: Red Lotus pursues the incense to achieve a union with Jiayin, while Shi Feiyang uses that desire to control the encounter.
  • Knowledge as power: Ni Fangxian’s detailed account of Red Lotus’s history and weaknesses gives Shi Feiyang a decisive advantage.
  • Humor amid danger: Shi Feiyang’s awkward, intentionally excessive chatter adds comedy to a tense confrontation, while also serving as a practical tactic.

Ch. 544Red Lotus Grotto-Heaven

Key plot points and events

  • After retrieving the Heaven-and-Earth Union Incense, Red Lotus Old Demon returns to his hidden Red Lotus Grotto-Heaven, shaken by the severe Heavenly Tribulation he has triggered.
  • He tries to use the incense on the imprisoned Holy Maiden, Jiayin, hoping to make her join him in cultivating the Heavenly Demon Great Art. Jiayin condemns him for his crimes and delusions.
  • The incense affects Red Lotus himself: after inhaling it, he becomes overwhelmingly drowsy. He destroys the stick but is already weakened.
  • Shi Feiyang, disguised as Ancestor Haha, enters the normally inaccessible grotto-heaven and finds Red Lotus incapacitated. He keeps the conversation going while Red Lotus struggles to counter the incense.
  • Shi reveals his real interest: he wants Red Lotus’s method for creating a separate world and intends to take the grotto-heaven for himself, eventually hoping to house Heaven Beyond Divine Mountain within it. Red Lotus refuses, explaining that the realm is bound to his life and dharma body.
  • Shi sets down the All-Heavens Mystic-Demon Divine Lamp and addresses Jiayin, saying he has come at the request of one of her old acquaintances to rescue her from suffering. Jiayin is bewildered and suspicious.

Character developments

  • Red Lotus Old Demon is exposed as vulnerable despite his power: he fears the approaching tribulation, relies on his lair for protection, and is unexpectedly overcome by the incense he brought to use against Jiayin. His confidence in the grotto-heaven’s defenses gives way to alarm when Shi enters.
  • Jiayin remains resolute in opposing Red Lotus, rejecting his promises of shared power and immortality. Shi’s unexpected claim that he has come to save her leaves her uncertain rather than reassured.
  • Shi Feiyang demonstrates both strategic patience and ambition. Disguised as Ancestor Haha, he exploits Red Lotus’s weakened state while pursuing control of the grotto-heaven.

Character interactions

  • Red Lotus taunts Jiayin and offers her a partnership based on shared cultivation and future power; she answers with condemnation rather than negotiation.
  • Shi and Red Lotus trade polite-sounding remarks that conceal their opposing aims: Shi asks about the grotto-heaven, then openly declares he wants it, while Red Lotus refuses.
  • Shi speaks directly to Jiayin as a would-be rescuer, but his disguise and the unlikely situation make her doubt his intentions.

Significant themes

  • Power and vulnerability: Even formidable cultivators can be undone by misjudgment, poison, or forces beyond their control.
  • Delusion and self-deception: Jiayin sees Red Lotus’s pursuit of immortality and domination as hopelessly deluded, a judgment sharpened by his fear of tribulation.
  • World-building and possession: The grotto-heaven is not merely a refuge but an extension of its creator, raising questions of whether a world can be separated from its maker or made to grow.
  • Trust and identity: Shi’s disguise and improbable rescue mission leave Jiayin unable to tell whether she is being saved or manipulated.

Ch. 545The karmic-fire red lotus dharma body of the three thousand great thousand worlds

Plot and key events

  • Shi Feiyang has secretly poisoned Red Lotus Old Demon with highly potent Moxiang, leaving the demon conscious but unable to control his body. Red Lotus’s own antidotes and efforts to purge the poison do little.
  • While Red Lotus is incapacitated, Shi sits in meditation beside the All-Heavens Mystic-Demon Divine Lamp. Red Lotus soon realizes that his grotto-heaven is being forcibly drawn away, though his usual magical views show only blinding golden light.
  • Shi admits that he is taking the grotto-heaven. Red Lotus threatens to destroy it, but Shi argues that the world is also the foundation of Red Lotus’s own existence and that he is willing to risk losing it.
  • Red Lotus sends out his primordial spirit to confront Shi, but Shi blocks his escape with Revered One Yideng, whom he previously strengthened by fusing him with an avatar of the Heavenly Lust Cult Master.
  • Red Lotus unleashes his karmic-fire red lotus dharma body: three thousand real, refined god-demon avatars, each wielding different demonic arts. Yideng and the Five Lusts Venerable cannot withstand the attack.
  • Shi then deploys the Nine-Child Mother Heavenly Demons and nine Heavenly Demon Immortal-Slaying Swords. They destroy Red Lotus’s manifestations, but the lotuses and demons quickly reappear. The swords cannot drain or absorb them, since these are genuine, interconnected avatars rather than illusions or ordinary thought-born bodies.
  • Shi recognizes that he has underestimated Red Lotus and that his current forces cannot defeat—or even delay—the old demon for long.

Character developments and interactions

  • Shi Feiyang reveals a calculated, ruthless side: he uses poison and exploits Red Lotus’s dependence on his grotto-heaven, while concealing how he is seizing it. His composure gives way to concern when Red Lotus’s true strength becomes clear.
  • Red Lotus Old Demon shifts from smug disbelief to alarm and fury as he discovers the theft, but remains a formidable opponent despite his physical paralysis. His mastery of three thousand real avatars makes him far more dangerous than Shi anticipated.
  • Holy Maiden Jiayin increasingly trusts Shi despite not knowing his identity. She interprets his disguise and actions through a Buddhist framework, believing he may be a transformed holy figure, and warns him about Red Lotus’s technique. Shi tells her to maintain her meditation rather than become distracted.
  • Yideng, the Five Lusts Venerable, and the nine demon-women serve as Shi’s successive defenders and attackers, but Red Lotus overwhelms the first two and withstands the latter group’s weapons.

Significant themes

  • Appearances and true intent: Jiayin learns to judge Shi by his purpose rather than his apparent identity, while his concealed methods complicate the distinction between righteousness and evil.
  • Dependence and vulnerability: Red Lotus’s grotto-heaven is both his power base and the “shell” on which his continued existence depends.
  • Limits of power and preparation: Shi’s layered strategy—poison, the divine lamp, allied demons, and demon swords—still proves insufficient against an enemy he has underestimated.
  • Mental discipline amid conflict: Shi urges Jiayin to keep her mind steady, presenting focused practice as a defense against inner and outer demons.

Ch. 546Lotus Incarnation

Concise Chapter Summary

Key plot points and events

  • Shi Feiyang reflects that demonic arts can bring swift power but demand constant offerings of blood, souls, and lives. Because his conventional Mystic Sect techniques now suffice, he has stopped nurturing his demonic treasures.
  • He retreats from Red Lotus Old Demon and returns his demonic forces to the All-Heavens Mystic-Demon Divine Lamp. The demon pursues him to the lotus pool, where he discovers Shi Feiyang’s white lotus incarnation using the Nine-Doubt Cauldron to absorb the Red Lotus Grotto-Heaven.
  • The white incarnation’s lotus throne shatters the demon’s first attack. Red Lotus Old Demon then uses the pool’s three thousand lotuses as avatars, drawing power from the whole grotto-heaven.
  • Shi Feiyang’s green lotus incarnation arrives with the Jade Lotus Pod and Haotian Treasure Mirror. Together, the two incarnations hold off the demon while the cauldron continues absorbing his world.
  • Meanwhile, Shi Feiyang’s original self helps Holy Maiden Jiayin ascend to the world of Ultimate Bliss. Jiayin recognizes her spiritual destination, bows to Shi Feiyang, and departs with Amitabha.
  • Jiayin’s ascent destroys Red Lotus Old Demon’s hope of surviving a future heavenly tribulation by cultivating demonic arts with her. He abandons the battle and rushes back, but arrives too late.
  • Shi Feiyang reveals that he is the “Sinful Dragon” whom the demon believed had been killed. As the cauldron continues its work, he attacks with Purple-Green Divine Flame Sword Qi.

Character developments and interactions

  • Shi Feiyang demonstrates how far he has advanced: he has created two genuine lotus incarnations by dividing and cultivating portions of his primordial spirit, and coordinates them with his original self. His approach combines force against Red Lotus Old Demon with compassion toward Jiayin.
  • Red Lotus Old Demon proves formidable but increasingly desperate. He loses control of his grotto-heaven, is frustrated by the incarnations’ defenses, and suffers the collapse of his plan for surviving tribulation.
  • Holy Maiden Jiayin completes a long spiritual journey. Her past fixation and hardships ultimately lead her to enlightenment, and she willingly accepts ascension.
  • Shi Feiyang and Red Lotus Old Demon confront one another in battle, while Shi Feiyang’s conversation with Jiayin offers her guidance and a final chance to leave the demon’s realm.

Significant themes

  • Spiritual growth versus power at any cost: Demonic cultivation offers strength but carries heavy moral and practical costs.
  • True transformation and cultivation: Shi Feiyang’s incarnations embody a profound, risky form of rebirth rather than mere magical duplication.
  • Attachment, hardship, and enlightenment: Jiayin’s fixation causes suffering, yet her ordeals eventually help her break through delusion.
  • The limits of control: Red Lotus Old Demon’s confidence in his power and domain cannot prevent their absorption—or Jiayin’s departure.
  • Converging strategies: The battle is won through coordination among Shi Feiyang’s incarnations and original self, while the enemy is undermined both magically and through the loss of his ally.

Ch. 547Rending Heaven and Earth

Key plot points and events

  • Shi Feiyang’s Purple-Green Divine Flame sword qi overwhelms the Red Lotus Old Demon’s red-lotus defenses. The Stone God Princess, having escaped the Jade Lotus Pod, joins the fight and attacks Shi Feiyang.
  • Shi Feiyang unleashes his Ten Suns’ Heavenly Punishment, now empowered by the divine flame. It destroys the old demon’s precious pearl and drives him to a desperate escape.
  • To prevent Shi Feiyang from pursuing him, the Red Lotus Old Demon tears the Red Lotus Grotto-Heaven in two and detonates the treasure housing his primordial spirit. The blast hurls Shi Feiyang away; the old demon and Stone God Princess escape with the rear half, while Shi Feiyang is left with the front.
  • Shi Feiyang draws his half of the grotto-heaven into the Nine-Doubt Cauldron, where it becomes a stable miniature world. The red lotuses wither once severed from the old demon, but the red plum trees remain.
  • Shi Feiyang discovers that Ling Yunfeng’s nascent soul survived, but Han E is missing. Divination reveals she went to the Demon Palace and remained with the old demon’s side when the world split. She appears safe, though increasingly drawn into the Demonic Path.
  • He sends Ling Yunfeng to Cui Wugu at the Snow Mountain Sect, where the two are joyfully reunited.
  • Shi Feiyang then visits the Seven Absolutes Palace. Some members accuse his disciple Deng Bagu of helping Emei kill their senior, Chan Master Xiaoyue. When they try to stop him, their Blood Shadow Whips rebound onto them.

Character developments

  • Shi Feiyang demonstrates overwhelming power but accepts that the old demon’s unusual escape has put him beyond immediate reach. He also shows compassion toward Ling Yunfeng, while firmly directing her to the Snow Mountain Sect rather than taking her as a disciple.
  • The Red Lotus Old Demon shifts from confidence to desperation, sacrificing part of his own refined body and world to escape. His severing of the grotto-heaven is a costly act, not a simple retreat.
  • The Stone God Princess proves capable of escaping her confinement and intervening in the battle, though she ultimately escapes with the old demon.
  • Ling Yunfeng regrets rejecting Shi Feiyang’s tutelage and hopes to join him, but is sent back to Cui Wugu instead.
  • Han E shows initiative by infiltrating the Demon Palace, but her choices deepen her ties to demonic practices.

Significant themes

  • Power and sacrifice: The old demon’s escape costs him a portion of his world and Dharma Body.
  • Creation from destruction: Shi Feiyang turns the captured grotto-heaven into a stable world seed, while its former demonic life withers.
  • Affiliation and consequence: Ling Yunfeng’s regret and Han E’s growing demonic connections show how earlier choices shape their paths.
  • Limits of victory: Shi Feiyang wins the immediate contest and gains half the grotto-heaven, but his enemies escape and Han E remains beyond his reach.

Character interactions

  • The Stone God Princess warns her uncle to flee, then joins him in fighting Shi Feiyang.
  • Shi Feiyang reassures Ling Yunfeng and sends her to Cui Wugu, who catches and releases her from the talisman-bearing leaf.
  • At the Seven Absolutes Palace, hostile disciples confront Shi Feiyang over Deng Bagu; his effortless evasion causes their own weapons to wound them.

Ch. 548Hand it over!

Key plot points and events

  • Shi Feiyang visits Deng Yin’s underground palace and recounts his battle with Red Lotus Old Demon. The demon escaped into the surviving half of his divided grotto-heaven, which is now cut off from the outside world.
  • Shi reveals that Stone God Princess escaped the Jade Lotus Pod during the battle and is now with Red Lotus Old Demon. She possesses the Good Book of the Blood God Scripture, while Deng Yin holds its matching Evil Book. If the two books—or the two women within them—come together, catastrophe may follow.
  • Shi explains that Stone God Princess may seek revenge on Deng Yin, who once killed her. He came partly to protect Deng Yin and assess whether he remains in control of his demonic nature.
  • Shi and Deng discuss the death of Deng’s disciple, Chan Master Xiaoyue. Deng accepts responsibility for teaching him dangerous arts and recognizes that they corrupted Xiaoyue.
  • Shi admits his own past selfish motives in helping Deng, but says he hopes they can remain brothers and avoid becoming enemies. Deng promises sincerely to follow the righteous path.
  • Shi demands Deng surrender the Evil Book to prevent the two scriptures from meeting. Though deeply reluctant to part with Red Flower Princess, who dwells within it and whom he loves, Deng finally gives it up.
  • Shi seals the book inside a Ninth-Grade White Lotus, then gives Deng an Azure Lotus Seed to ease the physical and spiritual shock of separation.

Character developments

  • Shi Feiyang acts as a protector and moral guide, balancing concern for Deng with firm intervention. He acknowledges his own mixed motives but emphasizes his genuine wish to preserve their bond.
  • Deng Yin shows remorse and gratitude, admitting his mistakes regarding Xiaoyue. His attachment to Red Flower Princess makes surrendering the Evil Book agonizing, but he ultimately chooses trust and accepts Shi’s decision.
  • Red Lotus Old Demon and Stone God Princess remain looming threats, having escaped together into the isolated grotto-heaven.

Significant themes

  • Loyalty and brotherhood: Shi and Deng confront past debts and selfish motives while affirming their desire to remain allies.
  • Responsibility and corruption: Deng recognizes that powerful teachings can distort a disciple’s character, making him accountable for Xiaoyue’s fall.
  • Restraint versus temptation: Deng’s love for Red Flower Princess conflicts with the greater danger posed by the Evil Book and his own potential loss of control.
  • The cost of protection: Shi’s intervention is necessary but painful; safeguarding Deng requires taking from him something he cherishes.

Character interactions

Shi alternates between candid counsel and uncompromising authority: he reassures Deng of his care, asks for a promise, then insists on immediate surrender of the scripture. Deng initially resists because of his love for Red Flower Princess, but his trust in Shi—and concern over the danger—eventually wins out.

Ch. 549Ten Suns' Heavenly Punishment Refines the Blood Pool

Plot points and events

  • After seizing the Evil Book of the Blood God Scripture, Shi Feiyang stays at Seven Absolutes Palace to study it. He tells its leaders that Chan Master Xiaoyue’s body was destroyed by the Purple and Azure Swords, but his soul was captured by the Western Pole Religion.
  • The palace disciples launch a rescue mission, underestimating the Western Pole Religion. They are ambushed and badly defeated, with most of the attackers killed.
  • The chapter explains the Western Pole Religion’s growing power: its leaders have gained immortal bodies, joined forces, destroyed Lizhu Palace, sunk Moqiu Island, and turned Old Man Cangxu into a demon envoy.
  • Inside the Evil Book, Shi Feiyang confronts Red Flower Princess, who tries to devour his primordial spirit. She attacks with blood magic and swarms of demons, but Shi counters with his Purple-Green Divine Flame and Ten Suns’ Heavenly Punishment.
  • Determined to destroy the scripture and prevent it from ever reuniting with the Good Book, Shi Feiyang pours out his power to burn the blood pool and everything within it. Red Flower Princess uses the Seven Absolutes Demonic Art to force the pool’s demons to fight, but they fear Shi’s flames and refuse.

Character developments and interactions

  • Shi Feiyang proves both decisive and ruthless. He offers the palace disciples a practical way to help Xiaoyue, then independently chooses to destroy the Evil Book—even knowing Deng Yin will resent him.
  • Seven Absolutes Palace’s disciples act from pride and a desire to defend their senior brother, but their poor knowledge of the Western Pole Religion’s strength leads to disaster.
  • Red Flower Princess remains fiercely hostile to Shi, whom she blames for separating her from Deng Yin. Her reliance on the blood pool is exposed when Shi’s flames overwhelm her and her summoned demons.
  • The Western Pole leaders are presented as formidable, coordinated opponents, contrasting with the palace disciples’ arrogance and lack of preparation.

Significant themes

  • Arrogance and misjudgment: The disciples’ contempt for their enemies makes them easy to ambush.
  • Power and its consequences: The Western Pole Religion’s accumulated strength has devastated rival communities and driven out other practitioners.
  • Merciless choices and future harm: Shi Feiyang accepts personal and emotional consequences to eliminate a dangerous source of evil and prevent future calamity.
  • Captivity and spiritual destruction: The Evil Book traps the souls of its victims, turning accumulated suffering into its power.

Ch. 550Old Demon of Iron City Mountain

Chapter summary

  • Shi Feiyang attacks the blood pool: Using Ten Suns’ Heavenly Punishment, he boils away the pool’s blood and drives its demons into hiding. Red Flower Princess leads a mass assault, but the purple-green flames destroy most of her forces. She retreats to the pool’s deepest level.
  • Red Flower Princess calls on her father: Desperate, she invokes a family spell that reaches her estranged father, the Old Demon of Iron City Mountain. Though he had long ignored their relationship, he senses what may come and intervenes.
  • The old demon confronts Shi Feiyang: A Ghost Gate opens, and the old demon appears through a projection of divine will. He asks Shi Feiyang to spare Red Flower Princess, describing her as a daughter who has been dead for a thousand years and survives only through the Blood God Scripture. Shi Feiyang refuses, insisting he will destroy both her and the scripture.
  • A display of power—and negotiation: The old demon sends three thousand empowered god-demons to absorb and redirect Shi Feiyang’s flames into his own realm. He says he wants to show that a full battle would harm them both, not simply threaten Shi Feiyang. He then offers a bargain: spare his daughter, and he will teach Shi Feiyang a way to address the dangers in his demonic cultivation.
  • The old demon exposes a hidden risk: He recognizes that Shi Feiyang’s nine-child mother heavenly demons were refined using incomplete teachings. Though Shi Feiyang’s strong Daoist attainment and protective treasures have kept them obedient, the demons may eventually turn on him—especially if his fortune or body weakens. Even if controlled, they may prevent him from ascending safely, or become a threat to his descendants. Their bond is so deep that destroying them could also destroy part of Shi Feiyang, and even remembering them might allow them to return.
  • A potential solution is introduced: Shi Feiyang asks whether the old demon has solved this problem himself. The old demon points to the former master of the Stone God Palace, his twin elder brother, who cultivated many demons yet still ascended successfully. He offers to teach the method behind that achievement in exchange for Red Flower Princess’s survival, leaving the bargain unresolved.

Character developments and interactions

  • Red Flower Princess shifts from direct resistance to desperate reliance on her father. Their relationship is strained by her past rejection of his discipline, but her crisis brings him back into her life.
  • Shi Feiyang remains defiant and refuses to be swayed by a display of force. However, the old demon’s warning gives him a serious reason to reconsider his own demonic practices.
  • The Old Demon of Iron City Mountain presents himself as a restrained negotiator rather than a conqueror. His concern for his daughter coexists with his confidence and authority as a master of demonic arts.
  • Their conversation moves from threat and refusal toward a possible exchange, with each side holding something the other wants.

Significant themes

  • Family bonds and estrangement: Even after a thousand years and a history of rejection, the father-daughter connection proves difficult to sever.
  • The cost of power: Shi Feiyang’s demonic servants grant him strength but may carry long-term spiritual, familial, and even post-ascension consequences.
  • Control versus dependence: The demons seem obedient, yet their deep connection to their master makes them impossible to treat as ordinary tools.
  • Negotiation amid conflict: The old demon seeks a compromise, framing restraint—not victory—as the wiser outcome.

Ch. 551Demon Prison

Key plot points and events

  • The Old Demon of Iron City Mountain bargains with Shi Feiyang: he will reveal a method in exchange for Shi sparing his daughter, the Red Flower Princess.
  • He explains how demon cultivators can bind a created grotto-heaven world to its prisoners, making the world and its demons share their fate. The master can then leave the world behind, trapping the demons there permanently rather than relying on a temporary seal.
  • Shi Feiyang recognizes the method’s value for his own plans to create a world with the Chaos Dragon Pearl. He accepts, and the old demon transmits the technique before severing their connection.
  • The old demon tells the Red Flower Princess that he will no longer save her, and removes her access to the life-bound spell that once let her sacrifice herself to him. Now inseparably bound to the Blood God Scripture, she remains under Shi’s control.
  • Shi orders her to cultivate quietly and stop causing trouble. She resists with hatred but does not answer.
  • Shi returns to his body and spends days studying and adapting the vast, difficult teachings through the Three Sovereigns Great Way.
  • Zhuge Jingwo arrives at Seven Absolutes Palace on behalf of his Emei master, Xuanzhenzi. Though the rival sects are enemies, he calmly evades the palace disciples’ attacks and demonstrates his formidable Invisible Sword Qi before requesting an audience with the Primordial Yang Adept.

Character developments and interactions

  • Shi Feiyang shows strategic judgment: he bargains carefully, recognizes the technique’s long-term potential, and turns new knowledge into part of his broader cultivation system.
  • The Old Demon demonstrates both cunning and detachment. He keeps his bargain, but decisively ends his responsibility for his daughter and warns Shi that his choices may bring either salvation or disaster.
  • The Red Flower Princess loses her father’s protection and is left bound to the Blood God Scripture. Her hatred of Shi remains, though she is temporarily subdued.
  • Zhuge Jingwo has improved greatly after reincarnation. Once less talented than his peers, he now combines stronger innate aptitude with disciplined cultivation and approaches his enemies with controlled confidence.
  • The palace disciples’ attempt to attack Zhuge quickly gives way to fear when they realize they cannot match him.

Significant themes

  • Power and responsibility: The old demon warns that Shi’s choices could determine whether he brings blessing or calamity.
  • The cost of bonds: The chapter repeatedly links power and imprisonment to binding ties—between a world and its demons, a cultivator and a scripture, and a father and daughter.
  • Transformation through adversity: Zhuge’s hardships after reincarnation have strengthened both his aptitude and character.
  • Knowledge and cultivation: Creating a world is portrayed as vast, largely inexpressible knowledge that requires patient study and synthesis.
  • Rivalry and restraint: Despite the sects’ hostility, Zhuge avoids seriously harming the disciples and seeks a formal audience instead.

Ch. 552The Third Sword Duel

Plot points and events

  • Zhuge Jingwo arrives alone at the Seven Absolutes Palace to deliver Emei leader Qi Shouming’s letter. The Demon Cult disciples’ attempts to attack him—and the escorting Nine-Child Mother Heavenly Demon—backfire, while Zhuge remains calm and unharmed.
  • Qi’s letter thanks Shi Feiyang for his earlier hospitality and warns that a world-shaking calamity is approaching, involving Chiyou’s return. It blames Grandmaster Taiyi Hunyuan for summoning Chiyou and invites Shi to attend the Third Sword Duel on Emei Mountain.
  • Shi recognizes the truth in the warning but objects to Qi’s one-sided account of responsibility. In reply, he proposes that Emei concede the duel and avert the catastrophe, exchanging its pride for peace.
  • Zhuge thanks Shi for his help concerning Ling Yunfeng. Shi tells him that Han E has entered Red Lotus Old Demon’s grotto-heaven; Zhuge shows little concern, having emotionally distanced himself from his former-life family.
  • As the duel approaches, Shi considers staying away and keeping Deng Yin and his companions from going, but decides to attend in hopes of saving lives. Deng Yin, Chishi Divine Monarch, and Nine-Li Divine Lord accompany him to Mount Jiuhua; Shi’s Nine Heavens Primordial Yang Ruler unsettles their demonic followers, so they leave their disciples behind.
  • The duel’s unusual format reflects the changed political landscape: most invited righteous sects attend only as neutral witnesses, and the Wutai side is small and isolated. Its past purge and reorganization have brought it closer to the orthodox path, though Taiyi Hunyuan remains a source of danger.
  • Zhu Mei fails to persuade his Green City junior, Jiang Shu, to side with Emei. Jiang insists on judging impartially and prepares neutral viewing pavilions on North Mountain.
  • As Shi and his companions arrive, a vast blood-red cloud fills the sky. Attendees fear it may signal Chiyou’s arrival and the beginning of the catastrophe.

Character developments and interactions

  • Shi Feiyang weighs the consequences of attending but chooses to go out of concern for those he might save. He challenges Qi Shouming’s framing of events and urges a peaceful concession rather than another fight.
  • Zhuge Jingwo demonstrates discipline and composure in hostile surroundings. His restrained response to news of Han E reveals how thoroughly he has severed his emotional ties to his previous life.
  • Deng Yin and his companions arrive openly and confidently, but Shi’s protective ruler makes clear that his demonic power remains a concern to those around them.
  • Jiang Shu stands by his principles despite pressure from Zhu Mei, who is frustrated by Jiang’s distrust of Emei. Their exchange exposes a longstanding personal rift as well as a dispute over impartiality.
  • The Emei and Wutai factions are no longer surrounded by the same alliances as before: Wutai has changed under Xu Feiniang’s leadership, while Emei’s invitation does not guarantee its guests’ support.

Significant themes

  • Impartiality and integrity: Jiang refuses to let allegiance determine his judgment, and the neutral witnesses are meant to keep the duel fair.
  • Responsibility and blame: Shi sees Qi’s warning as accurate but politically selective, raising the question of who bears responsibility for the coming calamity.
  • Karma and choice: Shi believes the disaster may be unavoidable, yet recognizes that attending or staying away carries different consequences.
  • Reconciliation versus pride: Shi argues that Emei could prevent wider suffering by conceding, challenging the value of sect honor and victory.
  • Transformation: Wutai’s reform and Zhuge’s detachment from his former-life bonds show characters and factions redefining their identities.

Ch. 553Jiang Shu vs. Deng Yin

Plot points and events

  • Deng Yin arrives at Mount Jiuhua in a display of blood-red power, alarming the assembled sects. Shi Feiyang’s presence beside him further unsettles Emei’s disciples, who fear he has joined forces with the Blood Demon.
  • Jiang Shu warmly welcomes Shi Feiyang to a grand pavilion he had prepared for him. Shi Feiyang introduces Deng Yin as his sworn brother and tells Jiang Shu that the three of them are brothers. Jiang Shu is surprised and displeased, but formally accepts Deng Yin as his second brother.
  • Leaders and disciples from several major sects arrive to pay their respects and discuss the coming sword contest. Many fear the contest may end in violence, and they look to Shi Feiyang as the most powerful figure among them.
  • Deng Yin behaves amiably only toward Shi Feiyang; his intimidating presence unnerves the other guests. Jiang Shu and Deng Yin privately despise one another, though they hide their hostility whenever Shi Feiyang is watching.
  • Each wants to expose or humiliate the other. They agree to duel away from the gathering so Shi Feiyang will not notice. Deng Yin leaves behind a blood-made incarnation rather than his true body.
  • The excerpt ends as Deng Yin produces an old clam shell containing Five-Colored Smoke and remembers his past with Shen Wugou, his beloved wife. His grief and shame over what he has become are revealed, but the duel has not yet begun.

Character developments

  • Shi Feiyang shows affection for Jiang Shu and welcomes him as family, but remains preoccupied with a prophecy that Chiyou will appear despite his calculations suggesting otherwise.
  • Jiang Shu is loyal to Shi Feiyang and confident in his own ability to withstand Deng Yin, thanks to his Heavenly Immortal status and the Heaven-Escape Mirror. His trust in Shi Feiyang contrasts with his contempt for Deng Yin.
  • Deng Yin is powerful and feared, yet unusually warm toward Shi Feiyang. His memories of Shen Wugou reveal a buried capacity for love and a deep sense of disgrace about his demonic existence.
  • Shi Zhu has regained the magical power of his former life but remains without his old memories, which Shi Feiyang has deliberately sealed.

Character interactions

  • Jiang Shu treats Shi Feiyang with great affection and hospitality; Shi Feiyang, in turn, recognizes Jiang Shu as a brother to both himself and Deng Yin.
  • Deng Yin and Jiang Shu perform civility in public for Shi Feiyang’s sake but exchange contemptuous looks and arrange a secret duel.
  • The gathered sect leaders respect Shi Feiyang and are unsettled by Deng Yin, whose power and conduct seem at odds with his friendly manner toward their host.
  • Deng Yin’s recollection of Shen Wugou contrasts his former devotion with his present isolation and shame.

Significant themes

  • Brotherhood and loyalty: Shi Feiyang’s sworn bonds unite men whose values and personalities sharply conflict.
  • Appearance versus reality: Public politeness conceals Jiang Shu and Deng Yin’s mutual hostility; Deng Yin’s gentleness toward one person coexists with his terrifying nature toward others.
  • Power and reputation: The assembled sects judge the coming contest through the shadow of powerful figures and past deeds.
  • Love, loss, and shame: Deng Yin’s memories reveal the human cost of his transformation and the emotional distance he feels from his former life.

Ch. 554Heavenly Lust Cult Master Gu Chen

Key plot points and events

  • Deng Yin lures Jiang Shu into the Yin-Yang Clam Shell for a private fight. Jiang Shu attacks with his Twin Jade-Cutting Hooks and quickly destroys Deng Yin’s blood-drop clone.
  • The clone’s destruction releases a vast field of blood mist, and the clam shell seals shut around Jiang Shu. Deng Yin had intended only to frighten him, not kill him.
  • While Deng Yin is away, a Northern Sea agent steals the shell and delivers it to Gu Chen, leader of the Mystic-Yin Cult. Gu Chen disperses Deng Yin’s pursuing clone and carries Jiang Shu to the Northern Sea.
  • Shi Feiyang divines what happened and identifies Jiang Shu’s captor. Gu Chen has fused with part of the Heavenly Lust Cult Master’s primordial spirit and now possesses power comparable to that ancient demon at his height.
  • Shi Feiyang concludes he must go to the Northern Sea to save Jiang Shu. Since leaving Mount Jiuhua unattended could allow Chiyou to be resurrected, he asks Li Jingxu to come oversee events and gives Shi Zhu private instructions. He and Deng Yin then set off north.

Character developments and interactions

  • Jiang Shu displays confidence and skill, but his willingness to accept Deng Yin’s challenge leaves him vulnerable to the trap.
  • Deng Yin is exposed as both cunning and reckless: he tricks Jiang Shu, then panics when the shell is stolen and realizes Shi Feiyang may blame him. His concern for Jiang Shu is partly driven by fear of losing Shi Feiyang’s regard.
  • Shi Feiyang balances personal loyalty with the need to prevent a wider catastrophe. He recognizes that the danger cannot be solved by force alone and makes arrangements to protect Mount Jiuhua before departing.
  • Gu Chen emerges as a major threat, having secretly built up the Mystic-Yin Cult and concealed his strength and presence.
  • Shi Feiyang’s protective affection for Jiang Shu is contrasted with his more complicated bond with Deng Yin. Deng Yin, in turn, is eager to rescue Jiang Shu and avenge himself on Gu Chen.

Significant themes

  • Consequences of rivalry and misjudgment: Jiang Shu and Deng Yin’s duel creates an opening for their enemies.
  • Destiny and constrained choices: Shi Feiyang foresees several disastrous outcomes; intervening to save one person may enable another catastrophe.
  • Loyalty, affection, and obligation: Shi Feiyang’s different relationships with Jiang Shu and Deng Yin shape his decisions.
  • Hidden threats and strategic deception: Gu Chen’s secrecy and Deng Yin’s trickery show that cunning can outweigh direct power.

Ch. 555Lotus Lamps Illuminate the Vast Sea

Plot and events

  • Shi Feiyang and Deng Yin arrive at Mystic-Yin Island, where Demon Corpse Gu Chen’s protective formation fills the sky with black misfortune baleful qi.
  • Deng Yin unleashes a vast blood sea that steadily forces the clouds back. Shi Feiyang kills twenty-eight cultists with his Purple-Green Tusita Sword Qi, destroys their Black Fiend Swords, and draws their freed demon beasts into his divine lamp for cultivation and deliverance.
  • Rather than rush into a likely ambush, Shi Feiyang methodically prepares: he surrounds the island with 108,000 lotus formations, creates an Azure Lotus Avatar, and helps Deng Yin break the remaining clouds with the Haotian Treasure Mirror. Deng Yin keeps the blood sea overhead, raining blood onto the island.
  • The brothers enter separately. Shi Feiyang begins searching for Jiang Shu, but Gu Chen’s trap springs: Netherworld Cold Flame, rising misfortune fiends, and 6,561 Beast-Gathering Banners form a vast Mystic-Yin Fiend-God Formation.
  • The formation distorts space, disrupts the five elements, and unleashes grotesque demons. Shi Feiyang’s sword qi struggles to reach its targets; one stream is destroyed by concentrated chilling attacks.

Character developments and interactions

  • Shi Feiyang demonstrates restraint and strategic caution, securing the island’s perimeter before entering. His powerful sword qi and divine lamp show both destructive force and compassion toward the enslaved beasts. He and Deng Yin coordinate effectively from outside, though their different magical methods cannot be combined directly.
  • Deng Yin displays overwhelming blood-demon power, suppressing the island’s defenses and covering it in a blood sea. He is eager to attack and enters ahead of Shi Feiyang.
  • Gu Chen emerges as a formidable, methodical opponent: he has concentrated years of the cult’s work into a massive formation designed to trap and overwhelm intruders.

Significant themes

  • Preparation versus recklessness: Shi Feiyang anticipates the ambush and establishes safeguards, even though the trap still tests him.
  • Power and teamwork: The brothers’ distinct abilities complement one another in breaking the outer defenses, despite their incompatible spells.
  • Destruction and deliverance: Shi Feiyang uses devastating force against the cultists while choosing to preserve and redeem the demon beasts they enslaved.
  • Space and perception: The fiend formation turns distance and natural laws against its victims, making even powerful attacks difficult to land.

Ch. 556Heavenly Demon Immortal-Slaying Sword versus Purple Ying

Key plot points and events

  • On Mystic Yin Island, Shi Feiyang confronts Gu Chen’s immense Profound Yin formation: eighty-one complete formations spread across the island and linked by thousands of banners. Using the Haotian Mirror with the Cosmic Light Disk, he traps and begins dismantling one stitched spirit, but the entire formation responds at once. Unable to break it quickly, Shi retreats through its attacks, intent on reaching Jiang Shu.
  • At Mount Jiuhua, the Emei–Wutai sword contest begins. Li Yingqiong challenges Wutai, but Grandmaster Taiyi Hunyuan unexpectedly takes the field himself rather than letting Xu Feiniang fight.
  • Li attacks with the Purple Ying Sword. Taiyi counters with the Heavenly Demon Immortal-Slaying Sword, whose sword spirit is Chiyou. Its blood-red aura threatens to drain the life force and souls of everyone nearby, and its power initially overwhelms Li.
  • At Zhu Mei’s urging, Zhou Qingyun joins Li with the Azure Cord Sword. Together, the women unite their weapons into Purple-Green Unity and press Taiyi harder, though his demon sword and its soul-sapping influence remain formidable. Taiyi taunts Emei and invites its other swords to join, leaving both sides astonished.

Character developments and interactions

  • Shi Feiyang shows resourcefulness and control with powerful artifacts, but recognizes that the formation’s interconnected structure makes a direct victory impractical. His priority is reaching Jiang Shu.
  • Li Yingqiong is fearless and eager to confront the strongest opponent, relying on exceptional cultivation from her past lives. She accepts help when the fight becomes dangerous.
  • Zhou Qingyun initially worries that two-on-one combat may seem improper, but acts when she sees Li’s peril. Her pointed challenge frames the demon sword as an evil weapon and invokes Emei’s strongest technique.
  • Taiyi Hunyuan displays confidence and considerable skill, holding off both swords. His boastful taunt suggests he is either supremely assured or deliberately provoking Emei.
  • Zhu Mei recognizes that Li needs support and persuades Zhou to intervene. The two Emei disciples coordinate their attacks, while the opposing sects watch closely and debate the fairness of the match.

Significant themes

  • Power and its cost: The Mystic Yin spirits threaten to turn on their wielder, while Taiyi’s sword endangers even bystanders through its influence over blood and souls.
  • Cooperation against overwhelming force: Shi relies on combined artifacts; Li and Zhou must unite their swords when individual attacks fail.
  • Righteousness, evil, and appearances: Zhou uses the moral distinction between Emei’s “immortal” swords and Taiyi’s “demon” sword as both a claim and a tactical challenge.
  • Rules versus necessity: The contest’s one-on-one expectations give way to intervention when Li faces grave danger.

Ch. 557Ganging up

Plot points and events

  • Li Yingqiong and Zhou Qingyun initially hold their own against Grandmaster Taiyi Hunyuan with Purple-Green Unity, but the Heavenly Demon Immortal-Slaying Sword steadily drains their strength and threatens to overwhelm them.
  • Zhu Mei urges Emei’s disciples to join the fight. Golden Cicada attacks with the Mandarin Duck Thunderbolt Swords; Yi Jing and Yang Jin follow with the Buddhist Ananda Sword and Prajna Blade.
  • As the demon sword turns the tide again, more Emei fighters enter, until over thirty powerful weapons surround Grandmaster Taiyi Hunyuan. The Wutai disciples prepare to help, but he forbids them from joining.
  • The Emei assault begins to break the demon sword’s defenses, shaking loose the souls it had absorbed. Its spirit, the demon god Chiyou, urges Taiyi Hunyuan to merge with him and slaughter the attackers.
  • Taiyi refuses—not only resisting the merger but also withholding his power from the sword. The chapter reveals that he has been struggling for decades to escape Chiyou’s influence.
  • Taiyi’s apparent display of the sword’s might was part of a plan: establish Wutai’s supremacy in the duel, then let Emei’s weapons destroy the demon sword and free him from Chiyou.

Character developments and interactions

  • Grandmaster Taiyi Hunyuan is revealed as conflicted rather than simply bloodthirsty. He has cultivated the persona of a savage, vengeful fighter to conceal his resistance to Chiyou, and now actively turns against the demon’s demands.
  • Chiyou, the sword’s spirit, tries to seize control, pressuring Taiyi to unite their spirits and consume the Emei fighters.
  • Zhu Mei persuades Emei’s younger disciples to abandon restraint, while the Wutai disciples want to protect their leader but obey his order to stay back.
  • Emei’s fighters progress from a small group to a coordinated mass attack, each bringing powerful weapons into the battle.

Significant themes

  • Sacrifice and liberation: Taiyi accepts the likely destruction of his greatest weapon as the price of escaping demonic control.
  • Appearances versus reality: His savage demeanor masks a long effort to regain his independence.
  • Power and its cost: The demon sword’s strength comes from the lives and souls it has consumed, but that power threatens both its wielder and its victims.
  • Rivalry and reputation: Even if the sword is destroyed, its performance has already secured Wutai’s standing as a foremost sword sect.

Ch. 558Magic treasures

Key plot points and events

  • Grandmaster Taiyi Hunyuan continues fighting more than twenty Emei experts with the Heavenly Demon Immortal-Slaying Sword. The sword has lost much of its power, while its demonic spirit, Chiyou, leaks blood essence and souls and secretly resents Taiyi for resisting complete unity with him.
  • The Wutai Sect’s followers are furious that Emei is overwhelming one opponent, but Taiyi has forbidden them to intervene. Emei’s elders ignore their accusations; the younger disciples begin to feel the strain.
  • Laughing Monk, angered by the Wutai Sect’s taunts and convinced the battle is a struggle against evil rather than a fair duel, turns his four nearly undetectable Invisible Swords on Taiyi himself.
  • Taiyi narrowly survives the surprise attack by deploying the Taiyi Five-Mist Gauze, a defensive treasure he has carefully restored and strengthened over decades. The swords and Laughing Monk’s Moon-Wall Saber cannot break through it.
  • Laughing Monk escalates with the Ancient Iron Command Talisman, a powerful pair of lightning-wreathed axes from the Panluo Immortal Mansion. Yi Jing adds her Demon-Slaying Moon-Bomb Crossbow and Six Yang Divine Light Mirror, further battering the protective mist.
  • Taiyi counters Yi Jing’s first shots with magical bubbles that destroy the projectiles. As the defense begins to weaken, Laughing Monk brings out still more treasures from Panluo’s treasury.

Character developments and interactions

  • Taiyi Hunyuan is not as fully enslaved to Chiyou as the Emei fighters assume. Shi Feiyang had severed their primordial-spirit link years earlier, and Taiyi has since kept the demon sword at a distance. He remains focused on exhausting the sword’s power so it can later be destroyed with Shi Feiyang’s help.
  • Laughing Monk reveals a flaw in his judgment: lacking the trials that were meant to temper him, he lets anger and moral certainty override the agreed rules of the duel. His past-life ties to Ascetic Monk and Ancient Immortal Panluo are reflected in the swords and treasures he wields.
  • Yi Jing shares Laughing Monk’s uncompromising hatred of evil. She approves of his escalation and attacks Taiyi’s defensive treasure directly, helping shift the encounter from a sword duel into an all-out use of magic.
  • Chiyou acts against Taiyi from within the sword, withholding warning when the Invisible Swords approach.

Significant themes

  • Prejudice and incomplete knowledge: Emei misjudges Taiyi because they do not know his connection to Chiyou has been severed.
  • Righteousness versus rules: Laughing Monk and Yi Jing justify breaking the agreed terms as necessary to destroy evil, blurring the line between justice and aggression.
  • Unfinished spiritual trials: The younger Emei disciples’ incomplete tempering leaves them vulnerable to anger and poor judgment.
  • Planning versus unpredictability: Taiyi’s strategy is sound, but his opponents’ sudden escalation threatens to overturn it.

Ch. 559A chaotic melee

Plot points and events

  • The Emei disciples unleash their magic treasures in a coordinated assault, dividing their force between the Heavenly Demon Immortal-Slaying Sword and Grandmaster Taiyi Hunyuan. Their combined strength overwhelms his defenses: the Taiyi Five-Mist Gauze nearly vanishes, and the Heavenly Divine-Fire Bell is close to breaking.
  • Taiyi hopes to hold out long enough for the Emei attacks to damage the demon sword, but he is rapidly pushed toward defeat. Xu Feiniang, seeing him near death, defies his earlier refusal of help and enters the battle.
  • Yang Jin intercepts Xu Feiniang with his Prajna Blade and Dharma Flower Vajra Wheel. Her Hundred-Spirit Immortal-Slaying Sword overwhelms him psychologically, forcing him to use the wheel defensively. She then turns on Laughing Monk, who is similarly disoriented despite having several weapons against her.
  • Mahasattva Sikong Zhan and a large Wutai force join the fight. Wutai’s numbers turn the battle into a sprawling melee with the younger Emei disciples. Casualties mount on both sides, and the combatants abandon restraint.
  • The Three Immortals and Two Elders watch rather than join, unwilling to further compromise Emei’s honor after their disciples have already ganged up on Taiyi.
  • Ruan Zheng brings out the Heavenly Jade Star Sand. It withstands the bell’s divine fire and begins dragging the bell skyward. Taiyi struggles to retain control while also resisting the demon sword’s mental pressure.
  • The sword urges Taiyi to merge his spirit and qi with it, warning that otherwise he, Xu Feiniang, and the Wutai disciples will be destroyed. Taiyi resists, but finally feeds the sword his blood essence and power, restoring its demonic radiance.

Character developments and interactions

  • Xu Feiniang shifts from obeying Taiyi to acting decisively when his life is at stake. Her sword proves powerful enough to drive both Yang Jin and Laughing Monk onto the defensive.
  • Taiyi Hunyuan remains determined to delay the sword’s corruption, even as his defenses collapse and his followers are endangered. His sacrifice of blood and magical power shows how desperate his position has become.
  • Yang Jin reveals that his Buddhist training has not overcome his temperamental weaknesses; Xu’s sword unsettles him and exposes the limits of his progress.
  • Emei and Wutai disciples move from a supposedly formal duel into a mass, increasingly merciless battle. Personal loyalties and grief over fallen comrades eclipse the rules they initially observed.
  • The demon sword continues manipulating Taiyi, using threats against those he loves to pressure him into surrendering control.

Significant themes

  • The collapse of honor under pressure: A “fair” duel becomes a chaotic slaughter as each side responds to danger and casualties with stronger, less restrained attacks.
  • Loyalty and intervention: Xu Feiniang risks defying Taiyi to protect him, while the Wutai disciples rally to support their sect.
  • Power and corruption: Taiyi’s growing reliance on the demon sword may save him temporarily, but it brings him closer to the very union he has resisted.
  • Numbers versus individual strength: Emei’s superior treasures and skill are challenged by Wutai’s greater numbers and varied training.

Ch. 560Hundred-Spirit Immortal-Slaying Sword

Plot and key events

  • Cornered by the Emei Sect, Grandmaster Taiyi Hunyuan reactivates the Heavenly Demon Immortal-Slaying Sword, paying for its power with his blood essence. The sword breaks through Emei’s attacks and escapes Ruan Zheng’s attempt to trap it in Heavenly Jade Star Sand.
  • Elysium Immortal Li Jingxu, with Sun Xun and Ni Fangxian, sets out for Mount Jiuhua after Shi Feiyang warns that Chiyou’s emergence is near. Dharma King Xuanyuan delays them by unleashing a catastrophic weapon, so they arrive only after the battle has turned against Taiyi.
  • The battle becomes a clash of powerful treasures. The Emei fighters break Taiyi’s Taiyi Five-Mist Gauze, while the demon sword’s reluctance to fully serve him repeatedly leaves him exposed.
  • Xu Feiniang rushes to save Taiyi, but her own Hundred-Spirit Immortal-Slaying Sword turns against her. It creates the false image of Taiyi being cut down, disrupting her concentration. Emei attacks overwhelm her, and Laughing Monk’s Invisible Swords fatally wound her. Before she is killed, she realizes Taiyi is safe and warns him to flee.
  • Xu Feiniang’s death drives Taiyi into rage and grief. As Emei’s assault breaks his All-Heaven Divine-Fire Bell, the Heavenly Demon Immortal-Slaying Sword urges him to merge with it. Taiyi gives in; his body is destroyed and absorbed into the sword.
  • Empowered by Taiyi’s essence and fury, the sword tears through Emei’s weapons. It breaks Yi Jing’s Ananda Sword and Tusita Treasure Umbrella, then severs her left arm despite her family and teachers intervening.
  • The sword next targets Laughing Monk, whom it holds responsible for Xu Feiniang’s death. It pierces through his defenses and absorbs him, after which Taiyi reappears holding the blood-drenched sword and vows to kill everyone present. Even the Emei elders are shaken; Mahasattva Sikong Zhan quietly escapes.

Character developments and interactions

  • Taiyi Hunyuan changes from a reluctant wielder of the demonic sword into its willing host, overcome by Xu Feiniang’s death and the sword’s call for vengeance.
  • Xu Feiniang remains devoted to Taiyi, repeatedly risking herself to protect him. Her death becomes the turning point that pushes him into demonic possession.
  • Yi Jing shows composure and courage against the sword, but its power defeats her strongest defenses and costs her an arm. Her parents and spiritual mentors save her from being killed.
  • Li Jingxu, Sun Xun, and Ni Fangxian are delayed by Xuanyuan’s calculated diversion, keeping them from intervening in time.
  • Laughing Monk kills Xu Feiniang, then becomes the demon sword’s next victim. Xuanyuan avoids a direct contest and succeeds in delaying Li Jingxu through deception and force.

Significant themes

  • Grief and vengeance: Xu Feiniang’s death transforms Taiyi’s sorrow into indiscriminate fury.
  • The corrupting cost of power: The sword demands blood and eventually absorbs its wielder, turning his power against everyone.
  • Deception and vulnerability: The Hundred-Spirit Sword exploits Xu Feiniang’s emotional turmoil with an illusion, showing how inner distress can be as dangerous as an enemy’s attack.
  • Escalation and moral ambiguity: A conflict framed as a contest between sects becomes a devastating cycle of retaliation, with both sides deploying overwhelming weapons and suffering heavy losses.
