Ch. 821One Qi Transforms into the Three Pure Ones
Plot points and events
- Shi Feiyang unleashes his greatly strengthened Five Elements in Unison attack against Divine Lord Giant Wood. Giant Wood survives by merging his three incarnations—representing past, present, and future—into one qi and vanishing from the strike.
- The incarnations reform and attack, but Shi Feiyang’s allies join the fight. Perfected Red Staff confronts Giant Wood while explaining that Shi’s forces have trapped the enemy army within the Nine Heavens Grand Formation.
- Fighters stationed throughout the heavens rain coordinated attacks on Giant Wood’s million soldiers. Shi’s powerful allies overwhelm the invaders, while Jinxu Nu uses the Zhoutian Cosmic Light Disc to capture key enemy leaders. Giant Wood realizes his army is losing and tries to summon help.
- More than thirty gods arrive from the World of Everlasting Joy, but Shi Feiyang and Perfected Red Staff immediately batter them. Their leaders recognize that Shi is an accomplished Golden Immortal, not the “monster” Giant Wood claimed, and suspect Giant Wood’s motives.
- Giant Wood has struggled to recruit the powerful God Kings, many of whom refuse to intervene. The Azure Mystic Merit Officer and Yellow Register Boy pretend to seek more reinforcements, but actually leave to report the crisis to the Azure Emperor.
- The Azure Emperor is away. On their way to find him, the two officials meet Celestial Lord Zhao and other deities, who volunteer to help Giant Wood, believing the Azure Emperor is being challenged. More than sixty immortals head for the battlefield.
- By their arrival, the battle has grown even more chaotic, with Deng Yin also fighting. The newcomers are startled to see a blood-covered Golden Buddha and wonder whether the “Demon Dragon” has turned demonic.
Character development and interactions
- Shi Feiyang demonstrates the immense growth of his power and the effectiveness of his careful battlefield strategy. He is surprised that Giant Wood survives, but quickly coordinates with his allies to maintain the advantage.
- Divine Lord Giant Wood reveals both formidable defensive skill and poor judgment. Unable to turn the battle, he relies on questionable accusations and repeated calls for help, while his own forces crumble.
- The Azure Mystic Merit Officer and Yellow Register Boy recognize that Giant Wood’s account is misleading. Rather than risk confronting him directly, they use an excuse to withdraw and report the situation.
- The arriving deities act from loyalty to the Azure Emperor, but their willingness to join the fight rests on incomplete information and their hostility toward Shi Feiyang.
Significant themes
- Power and strategy: Shi’s coordinated formation and allied forces overcome a much larger army.
- Appearance versus truth: Giant Wood calls Shi a monster, but observant officials see that he is a Golden Immortal with a complex history.
- Heavenly politics and divided loyalties: Rules, factional ties, and personal allegiance shape who intervenes—and who refuses.
- Escalation and miscommunication: Each attempt to summon reinforcements draws more factions into the conflict, while the newcomers misunderstand what is happening.
