Ch. 281Ji Yuan Made His Move, Zhong Neng Attacked
Plot and events
- Xuanming survives the final bolts of his heavenly tribulation, using the Taiji Diagram, the Mountains and Rivers, Society and Millet Diagram, the Heavenly Evolution Star Formation, and other treasures to shield himself.
- Before his transformation is complete, three Great Powers attack him together: Li Lingyun strikes his body with a spear, the Great Qian zither master attacks his primordial spirit, and a Great Xuan power traps him with a law-based prison. Xuanming endures their combined assault.
- Xuanming counters by merging his abilities into a mysterious power that makes laws and attacks lose their force. He uses the opening to try to escape across the river of time.
- An aged finger shatters his escape and overwhelms his defenses. Recognizing the attacker as a Half-Immortal, Xuanming calls out Ji Yuan and Zhong Neng.
- Ji Yuan and Zhong Neng appear. The Peaceful Heaven Dao Master rescues Xuanming and confronts them, revealing himself to be a Half-Immortal as well. Ji Yuan and the Dao Master begin fighting, while Zhong Neng moves to seize Xuanming.
- A gigantic Kun Fish intervenes, blocking Zhong Neng’s attack. The chapter ends before the confrontation is resolved.
Character developments and interactions
- Xuanming proves exceptionally resilient and resourceful, holding his ground against multiple Great Powers and briefly resisting a Half-Immortal’s strike. He also reveals that he has long suspected Ji Yuan and Zhong Neng are dangerous.
- The Peaceful Heaven Dao Master openly sides with Xuanming, despite the risk, and reveals power beyond what the Three Divine Dynasties believed he possessed.
- Ji Yuan and Zhong Neng show their willingness to act against Xuanming. Zhong Neng offers the Dao Master a deal, but the Dao Master refuses to trust him; the two then divide their targets, with Ji Yuan confronting the Dao Master and Zhong Neng pursuing Xuanming.
- The Great Powers of the Three Divine Dynasties are shaken to discover that the Dao Master—whom they had considered a top-tier Great Power—is actually a Half-Immortal.
Significant themes
- Power and concealed strength: Xuanming’s formidable defenses are still outmatched by Half-Immortal power, while the Dao Master’s true level has remained hidden.
- Trust and hidden motives: The Dao Master’s warning that Ji Yuan and Zhong Neng are “poison wrapped in candy” shapes Xuanming’s suspicions, and the failed negotiation reinforces the danger of trusting them.
- Loyalty and intervention: The Dao Master risks open conflict to protect Xuanming, while the Kun Fish’s sudden arrival suggests another ally—or force—may be entering the struggle.
