The group looked at him strangely.
There was nothing surprising about this fellow stubbornly resisting to the bitter end.
The real issue was the Four Immortal-Slaying Swords and the God-Slaying Spear that had trapped them that day.
These were not things he could simply hand over and be done with.
They posed far too great a threat. In the hands of certain powerhouses, their potential defied imagination.
Back then, they had even suspected that, if these weapons were given to a Saint, while they might not kill another Saint, the result would come close.
"Beast Emperor, you really are hopelessly obstinate. Even now, you're still clinging to the Immortal Slaying Sword and the God-Slaying Spear. Once you're dead, won't they belong to us anyway?"
"Why not surrender your treasures? We promise to give you a quick death."
A glimmer of greed flashed in everyone's eyes.
Beast Emperor Shen Ni laughed loudly. Only now did he understand that these people hardly cared whether he lived or died. Their targets had always been the Four Immortal-Slaying Swords and the God-Slaying Spear.
Wang Shi frowned as he looked at the distant Beast Emperor, inexplicably sensing that something was wrong.
Just then, flames erupted from his body, instantly burning away all the illusory power.
At that moment, everyone looked again.
At some point, the Beast Emperor had vanished.
The group's eyes instantly reddened with rage.
Someone had spirited him away right before their eyes. This was nothing less than a slap in their faces.
Within the Blood Sea.
The Mirage Dragon fled frantically, with the numb Beast Emperor sitting atop his head.
"Your Majesty, pull yourself together. Those bastards deceived us. Are we really going to let them off so easily?"
"Don't you want revenge?"
His words instantly brought a yellow gleam to Beast Emperor Shen Ni's eyes.
He dreamed of revenge. He had finally managed to make a comeback.
Yet he had been treated as a pawn, and even his treasures had been taken away.
How could he endure that?
The Mirage Dragon's words instantly stirred his killing intent, finally bringing him to his senses.
"Come on. Let's rescue Minghe. He's still imprisoned in the Blood Sea. Only with Ancestor Minghe will we have a chance at revenge."
The Mirage Dragon's eyes lit up.
"You're right, Your Majesty. We need to gather more people. Only then will we have a chance at revenge."
"Your Majesty, could you answer a question for me?"
Beast Emperor Shen Ni frowned.
"Speak your mind."
The Mirage Dragon's voice grew somber.
"I searched for so long, traveling throughout the Primordial World. I practically turned the entire Primordial World upside down, yet I never found any trace of those fellows."
"Where exactly are they? I want revenge, but who am I supposed to take revenge on?"
Hatred flashed in his eyes.
This was what puzzled him most, what he hated most, and what left him most lost.
Otherwise, he would have acted long ago.
They had tricked him into coming out, used him as cannon fodder, then turned around and sold him out. Not one of them was any good.
Beast Emperor Shen Ni laughed loudly.
"Those fellows are extremely mysterious. Finding them won't be easy."
"They've been hiding in the Endless Sea, somewhere unknown in its depths. Without me to lead the way, finding them is impossible."
A trace of surprise flashed in the Mirage Dragon's eyes.
He had never expected Beast Emperor Shen Ni to be so tight-lipped. Even now, he was still concealing those fellows' identities.
But it did not matter.
"Let's rescue Ancestor Minghe first. Once we've freed him, we can deal with those ungrateful bastards."
"As long as you can lead me to them, Your Majesty, I'll do everything I can to help you."
Beast Emperor Shen Ni patted his horn.
"Of course, little dragon. Head down. Any farther and we'll overshoot."
The two deities fled toward the depths of the Blood Sea.
They soon arrived deep within the Blood Sea.
Having someone guide the way really was different from fleeing blindly. Only after entering a peculiar space did the Mirage Dragon understand why the mighty lord of the Blood Sea had been imprisoned within his own domain.
The ancestor, known as the spirit of the Blood Sea, was bound to a stone pillar. Blood-red runes held him fast, relentlessly tormenting him.
These runes were peculiar. They were actually drawing out his essence.
He cautiously ventured into the deepest reaches of the Blood Sea, and the sight before him left him utterly dumbfounded.
No wonder the Fierce Beast Tribe possessed the Blood Sea's essence. This fellow's methods were far too cruel.
"Minghe, have you made up your mind? Will you follow me, or keep suffering here?"
Ancestor Minghe's face was livid.
He was a mighty figure of the Primordial World, Hongjun's disciple, enlightened by the Great Dao. How could he casually abandon his beliefs?
Just because he dwelled in filth, did that mean he could not yearn for the light?
Why did he have to be the villain?
He refused to accept it. He truly could not bear it.
"If you have the guts, kill me! What kind of ability is draining my essence like this?"
Beast Emperor Shen Ni frowned at him. He had not expected this fellow to be such a hard bone to crack, but that suited him perfectly.
"Haha, very good."
With a casual wave of his hand, Ancestor Minghe appeared before him, his entire body radiating incredibly dense baleful qi.
"Why did you release me? Tell me your reason."
Behind him stood the phantom of a Three Corpses spirit, which was actually an early-stage Quasi-Saint.
He had already severed the evil corpse, one of his Three Corpses.
Beast Emperor Shen Ni laughed loudly.
"Naturally, I have a reason for releasing you. Believe it or not, I want to help you get revenge. And, of course, get revenge for myself."
"Those bastards betrayed me. They played me for a fool, causing my Fierce Beast Tribe to be almost completely wiped out and robbing us of any chance to rise again."
"They promised to help me become a Saint, but they left. They left without a word."
"They even swindled me out of my divine weapons before leaving."
The Beast Emperor's eyes were filled with hatred. He felt like a useless fool, humiliated like this yet powerless to do anything.
He felt so utterly wretched.
Minghe stared fixedly at the Beast Emperor, trying to determine whether he was lying.
Finally, he suddenly clutched his stomach and burst out laughing, his laughter utterly unrestrained.
"So this day came for you too! If it hadn't been for you back then, I never would have ended up like this."
"I never thought you'd be even worse off than me. Hahaha!"
He could imagine the despair of discovering that the people he trusted most had only ever treated him as a fool.
Anyone would find that unbearable.
"I understand. I'll help you."
Minghe suddenly felt great sympathy for the man before him.
Back then, he had been a powerhouse who could summon wind and rain in the Primordial World, who had nearly slaughtered the entire world.
Who would have thought he would end up like this?
Was this his just deserts, or simply the worst possible luck?
The three left the Blood Sea and headed toward the depths of the Endless Sea.
They would find those fellows, those arrogant, idiotic pieces of trash.
Wang Shi, who was tracking them, suddenly sensed something and pointed toward a location.
"After them!"
