Background / History

Adoption and Village Upbringing

Chen Dehou found Chen Yuan beside a river on the outskirts of Deep City when he was approximately two months old. After nobody claimed the infant, Dehou took him in. During their journey north, Zhang Xiu’e’s mother helped treat Chen Yuan’s fever and arranged the purchase of their home in Potou Village 4.

Chen Yuan grew up farming and practicing martial arts with Dehou. Although village gossip had already made him suspect that they were not biologically related, Dehou’s explanation confirmed his origins. He rejected the suggestion of searching for his birth parents, regarding their apparent abandonment as reason enough not to seek them out 4.

Departure for Deep City

After estimating his college entrance examination score at a little over 300, Chen Yuan believed even vocational college was unlikely. Zhang Xiu’e, his former next-door neighbor, offered to take him to Deep City and help him find work 3.

Early Rescues and Detention

When Zhao Lei and three companions attempted to force Zhou Min into a bedroom, Chen Yuan intervened after Xiu’e was shoved aside. He defeated the group and made Zhao abandon his demands for repayment and further contact with Zhou Min 11.

While exploring Deep City, he encountered an overturned car beginning to burn. He forced open its jammed door, carried the elderly passenger to safety before the vehicle exploded, and left without giving his name. The passenger was Chen Desheng 16 33.

Chen Yuan also accompanied Xiu’e to a dinner arranged by Wang Dahai because she feared his intentions. He later broke into the room, found her terrified in the bathroom, and subdued Wang Dahai and Sun Deming. The confrontation brought him into conflict with He Long, Liu Hu’s superior and the son of Hung Hing vice chairman He Qingguo. At headquarters, Chen Yuan restrained He Long’s wrist when he reached toward his face; Lei Zhen intervened and warned him that He Long was vindictive 46.

Following a dinner with the He family, Chen Yuan defeated He Long’s attackers in less than half a minute and bloodied He Long’s nose. Chen Desheng accepted a further match on his behalf and instructed him to fight without holding back.
