Background / History

Original gang and player takeover

The original beggars operate with coordinated roles: during Lao Mi’s abduction, some distract passersby while others club the targets, bag them, and carry them away. Lin Bai witnesses the operation but does not intervene 18.

Later, the city lord sends Lao Mi and Jing Mi undercover into the Beggar Gang, requiring them to abandon their Shadow Guard positions and gain influence before receiving further instructions. Lin Bai becomes their sole contact, but privately encourages Lao Mi to make the gang an independent career rather than a temporary government assignment. He supplies 200 taels to fund the venture, and Jing Mi agrees to support Lao Mi’s leadership 46 47.

The pair seize control through a resurrection bluff. Lao Mi kills Jing Mi before the beggars, then returns with him alive and threatens to kill gang members one by one. Liu Quan submits rather than test their apparent immortality, giving Lao Mi control of a street 50.

Formation of the Protector Gang

After defeating a player raid against him, Lin Bai offers the participants a way to remain in Jiamao City: join Lao Mi’s Beggar Gang. Their martial halls are expelling them and reclaiming their skills, making the gang’s promised instruction especially attractive 81 82.

Lin Bai presents the organization as the Righteousness Sect’s Protector Gang and recruits former enemies, artisans, and players already serving as Shadow Guards. He explicitly permits government employees to retain their positions while supporting the gang 83.

Leadership appointments establish a hierarchy, but also demonstrate Lin Bai’s control. Lone Elder purchases the left deputy position with 3,000 taels; other posts go to members with wealth or martial strength. Lin Bai refuses to sell Lao Mi’s position, citing their sworn brotherhood 87 88.

Sponsorship and expansion to Qian City

Recruitment by stronger cultivation sects threatens to draw members away. Lin Bai responds by proposing expansion beyond Jiamao City, then turns an unsolicited milk advertisement into a new business model: the gang will sell publicity through uniforms, slogans, banners, and livestreams 95 96.

Shared advertising income gives members a financial reason to remain together and protect Lin Bai. Sponsorship negotiations become so important that disciples spend their time comparing offers instead of leveling. Lin Bai retains final approval and limits contracts to one month 97 99 103.

The stronger members depart for Qian City in a branded caravan, while newer recruits remain in Jiamao City to receive incoming Heaven-Sent Ones. A Blood Shadow Gate interception becomes both a battle and a promotional spectacle; the players chant advertisements while Lin Bai and Jiang Qingqin fight 106 108 109.

In Qian City, sponsorship money purchases a lavish manor and training supplies. The players recruit all the city’s native beggars in one afternoon, organizing them as workers, advertisers, and a basic intelligence network. Within three days, the local native membership reaches one thousand 116 129.

Recruitment fair and sect confrontation

When representatives of the Seven Righteous Sects challenge the gang, Lao Mi argues that it is an organization founded by Heaven-Sent Ones, not an illicit sect established by Lin Bai. Hospitality, coordinated slogans, and political arguments keep the confrontation at the negotiating table 118 119.

The gang subsequently organizes Qian City’s cultivation recruitment fair. Its advertising attracts merchants and sect sponsors, generates revenue, and makes cultivation recruitment accessible to ordinary citizens. Locals welcome an organization that creates jobs and distributes money instead of demanding alms 122 134.

Steep registration fees initially prevent a hostile player scheme from flooding the gang with recruits. After rival sects adopt anti-Lin Bai recruitment slogans, Lin Bai abolishes the fees and confronts their leaders. Gang members help sustain his lightning barrage by reciting the necessary tongue twister; his victory sends players rushing to the gang’s recruitment desk 136 137 138 139.

Returning Dragon Temple campaign

Lao Mi’s promise to oppose the Beast Taming Sect becomes a long-term faction objective after Little White Fox challenges the players to prove their concern for Demon Beasts. Meanwhile, the gang grows to approximately three thousand members, and Lone Elder organizes training and combat roles 142 143.

Gang infiltrators persuade Long Xi to betray the Returning Dragon Temple and help arrange an inside–outside takeover. The first battlefield plan fails: players advertise before beginning their incantation, giving Golden Core Taoists time to kill them or force them to log out 146 147 150.

Lin Bai recovers independently. Lone Elder then secures flying transport from other sects, sending one thousand Beggar Gang disciples and five hundred allied recruits toward the temple 154 155.

After conquering the temple, Lin Bai converts it into the Righteousness Sect and establishes selective admission for promising Beggar Gang members. The gang remains a separate organization rather than transferring its entire membership into the new sect 161 162.

Independence schemes and disciplinary crisis

The gang’s players form an Advertising Alliance with members of other sects, protecting their income while building connections beyond Lin Bai’s immediate following. Later, its leaders plan to cooperate publicly with him while secretly cultivating an independent power base. Justice Weekly’s proposed expansion into other cities is part of that strategy 165 194.

The conflict becomes explicit when Lin Bai condemns members for prioritizing advertising impact over his instructions. He pardons senior players but orders the remaining members to fight in the Sword Practice Arena. Only half may stay; those defeated face twenty consecutive killings after revival and three months in the Black Iron Mine. He also threatens departing members with removal of their martial and mystic arts 220 221.

Lao Mi’s coup and business closures

The righteous and demonic Execution Order against Lin Bai exposes the gang’s dependence on his protection. Several city governments close its businesses, ban Justice Weekly, and imprison protesting members. Xu Longyun refuses to dismantle its Jiamao City operations simply to appease the sects 227.

Lone Elder proposes publicly severing ties with Lin Bai while secretly preserving them. Lao Mi instead allies with Guo Yuan, whose City Guard arrests Lone Elder and other members. Lao Mi announces his intention to seize the Advertising Department and its income; several executives remain loyal to Lone Elder and report the betrayal to Lin Bai 227 228.

Lin Bai later secures the reopening of the gang’s businesses in Binghuo City during the Righteous Alliance Army’s advance 231.

Growth bottleneck and later status

The gang eventually loses its overwhelming early advantage. Top sects offer superior cultivation resources, while consortiums possess greater finances and rapidly improving player forces. When Lin Bai keeps a low profile, advertisers stop investing and the gang largely survives on reserves and Magpie Bridge income 269 300.

Attacks by Chilian Ancestor and Song Yaoqing force Qian City members to remain offline for days. Lao Mi later relocates to Thunder City and invokes the gang’s Protector Gang status to demand action from Lin Bai 273 301.

Despite these setbacks, Lin Bai eventually orders the organization elevated to the largest gang in the Taiyi Kingdom. Lao Mi remains its leader 433.

Abilities & Skills

Martial Training

Technique Documented use or limitation
Nine Suns Scripture Widely learned by the initial Qian City contingent; later opened to every gang disciple 122 142.
Dragon-Subduing Ten-Stroke Palm / Dragon-Subduing Palm Requires proficiency grinding and substantial inner force. Most disciples can initially perform no more than one complete sequence 122 130.
Six Colors of Proud Frost Saber technique offered for gang-wide training 142.
Arched Body, Single Shadow Movement technique offered for gang-wide training 142.
Golden Bell Shield Protective technique offered for gang-wide training 142.
  • Player cultivation is exceptionally fast: the stated rate is one day of cultivation equaling a year for an ordinary person 122.
  • The gang brings expert City Guard archers in as instructors and emphasizes archery alongside daily Nine Suns Scripture practice 130.
  • Large membership does not initially translate into independent high-level combat power. Its players remain vulnerable to Golden Core attacks and heavily dependent on Lin Bai 142 147 150.

Coordinated Incantation Support

Gang members can support Lin Bai’s Palm Thunder by successfully reciting its tongue-twister incantation 138.

  • Mass recitation sustains the lightning barrage against the evil-sect leaders at the recruitment fair 138.
  • The tactic requires time to begin; enemy attacks can interrupt or eliminate the reciters before they contribute 150.
  • Members investigate the supposed connection to Words Become Law, but Lin Bai later admits that he invented that explanation 139 155.

Intelligence and Infiltration

  • Native beggars provide a local information network in Qian City 116.
  • Players inside rival sects relay intelligence through private communications, including disciples captured by the Returning Dragon Temple 142.
  • The network converts Long Xi into an inside ally and helps coordinate the temple campaign 146.
  • Players from other sects enlarge the network while assisting with transport and recruitment for Lin Bai’s expedition 155.
  • Important meetings later use restricted private streams after public livestreams expose sensitive information 220.

Alchemy and Artifact Refining

  • Lin Bai provides selected players with alchemy and artifact-refining instruction 117.
  • Artifact Refining Master studies the Windbreaker sword and forges weapon blanks in exchange for further instruction 128 129.
  • Flower Doctor God’s team develops a poisoned Rejuvenation Pill and attempts to reverse-engineer an Enlightenment Pill 129 143.
  • Native members assist with workshop labor, allowing players and Lin Bai to concentrate on specialized work 128 129.

Negotiation and Event Management

  • Team voice chat enables coordinated hospitality, slogans, and responses during confrontations 118.
  • Lao Mi uses the Heaven-Sent Ones’ ability to choose rival factions as leverage against forced recruitment 118.
  • The gang plans sect recruitment displays, attracts sponsors, and operates Qian City’s cultivation job fair 121 122 134.
  • Lone Elder obtains transport through promises, threats, and cooperation with players already belonging to other sects 155.

Uniforms, Equipment, and Facilities

  • Branded beggar uniforms — Deliberately tattered but finely made, with “Beggar” on the chest and Muming Milk branding on the back and sleeve patches 106.
  • Advertising caravan — Twenty or thirty carriages decorated with dairy cows, grasslands, ragged flags, and slogans containing deliberately incomplete characters 106.
  • Bows and Windbreaker Rejuvenation Arrows — An important early combat option while disciples lack the inner force for repeated palm sequences. The pill payload must reach an opponent’s stomach; it is especially effective against NPCs 130.
  • Crossbows — Artifact Refining Master carries a crossbow on the Qian City journey; Lin Bai praises its earlier usefulness 83 106.
  • Qian City manor — A wealthy merchant’s former estate, purchased as a branch headquarters, with rockeries, flowing water, landscaped gardens, and training supplies 116.
  • Black Ice Spring — Created at the branch for quenching during artifact refinement 124.
  • Workshops and Weapon Shop — Members rebuild alchemy facilities after the courtyard’s destruction and allocate space for Lin Bai’s weapon business 125.
  • Borrowed flying transport — The Hundred Flowers Valley’s Flying Shuttle and other sects’ transport treasures carry the temple expedition 155.

Commerce and Recruitment

Advertising Model

  • Shared proceeds: Lin Bai promises to distribute advertising earnings among gang members and use wealth to acquire supplies, talismans, and magic treasures 97.
  • Advertising space: Uniforms, flags, carriages, streets, and house walls provide sponsor exposure 97 103 106.
  • Livestream obligations: Sponsors require the Qian City journey to be broadcast, and later campaigns must deliver publicity even when operational details remain secret 106 148.
  • Contract control: Lin Bai rejects six-month arrangements, caps contracts at one month, and reserves final approval while delegating smaller negotiations to Lone Elder 103.
  • Print expansion: Justice Weekly gives the gang a publishing and advertising outlet whose staff plan wider distribution through player agents 194 227.
  • Revenue vulnerability: Later sponsors demand major spectacles rather than everyday footage. Reduced publicity and stronger consortium competition diminish income 242 300.

Recruitment Policies
