Background / History
Earth Origin and the Systems
Lin Bai arrives in another world through an unexplained transmigration and acquires multiple equally unexplained systems. Their quests and rewards draw on Earth’s literary and martial-arts culture, but the players—despite familiar language and behavior—do not recognize many of those cultural references. This mismatch leads him to suspect that an unknown force is directing his circumstances 33.
His supposed master and the ancient history of the Righteousness Sect are not reliable accounts of his origin. He changes his master’s image to suit different conversations, while the Duke Who Guards the Nation finds no historical record of the sect or the places and allusions in Lin Bai’s poetry collection 144 241.
Jiamao City: From Borrowed Influence to Personal Strength
His early successes rely on other people’s power: the Luo family’s influence, players’ immortality, government authority, the Beggar Gang, and ghosts used to intimidate craftsmen. Recognizing how easily these arrangements could collapse, he temporarily avoids attracting another player’s attention until he can defend himself 17.
After identifying players through their glowing names and private conversations, Lin Bai concludes that their resurrection and rapid growth threaten ordinary inhabitants. He approaches Lao Mi and Jing Mi with fabricated face-reading claims, intending to develop alongside them rather than remain an expendable NPC 3.
He opens an intentionally defective restaurant and later markets controlled ghost service as a nighttime attraction at triple the daytime price. These businesses simultaneously provide income, publicity, emotional reactions, and opportunities to complete system quests 19 33. His growing inner force and teaching feedback eventually give him strength independent of his original borrowed influence 56 109.
Qian City: Cards, Recruitment, and the Righteous Alliance
Qingming’s attack exposes Lin Bai to a stronger cultivation opponent and activates the Card System. His victory turns a dying enemy into a restored captive and gives the players a dramatic reason to believe in the Righteousness Sect 123.
Lin Bai then leverages his control over Heaven-Sent Ones to obtain resources and influence recruitment. After destroying the evil sects’ recruitment party, he keeps Beggar Gang registration free and pressures the surviving orthodox sects to offer silver, weapons, pills, and instruction 128 139.
His campaign against Returning Dragon Temple increasingly favors capturing enemies over killing them. He uses forced romantic attachment to secure Qingshan’s surrender and subsequently shares stronger captives’ cultivation 153 179. The Righteous Alliance becomes his framework for integrating players, subordinating rival factions, and extending his claimed reforms beyond Qian City 193 198.
Thunder City and the Established Sects
The Righteous and Demonic Execution Order brings threats too strong for Lin Bai to meet directly. He prioritizes fast system rewards, media manipulation, and unusual control abilities, while his alliance occupies abandoned sect grounds and expands its influence 240 241.
In Thunder City, he combines public works, businesses, a cooking competition, and demonstrations of the Laws with preparations for battle. Xu Longyun brings royal authority and protective treasures; the Duke eventually supports cooperation and seeks military backing 249 250 276.
Capturing Gu Yi raises Lin Bai to Mahayana. Victory over the attacking sects consolidates the alliance, and the Seven Righteous Sects’ subsequent concessions bring legitimacy, reparations, investment, and further system rewards 287 294 297.
Heavenly Tribulation and the Boundary Between Worlds
During the prolonged heavenly tribulation, Lin Bai relies on Qingyun, improvised artifact refinement, healing resources, and repeated near-death attacks. Virtue light ultimately saves him from the black lightning, allowing his disciples to ascend before him 338 340 345.
His incarnations also confront the players outside the tribulation. Player possession exposes their identities and helps him gain leverage over their factions 328 334. Magpie Bridges later cross into the players’ real world, making Lin Bai the first publicly recognized figure to break the boundary between game and reality and bring game-world abilities across it 352 357.
Immortal Realm and Final Consolidation
The Immortal Realm reveals a new disparity: even a Bronze Heavenly Being can match the lower realm’s pinnacle cultivators. Lin Bai captures stronger Heavenly Beings, trains his disciples against them, and seeks a safe position for Ascenders, with becoming the Tenth Heavenly King as an immediate political ambition 348 363.
An ambush by four Star Radiance experts becomes another breakthrough when he captures Shi Biao and escapes. Extraction, card restoration, curses, and shared law abilities then give him new ways to attack their remaining alliance 391 392.
After unifying the worlds, Lin Bai gathers their leaders to restructure society while continuing to clear system missions 431. By the finale, numerous Lin Bais make the game effectively unplayable; Heavenly Beings surrender power and are assigned to urban construction after being reduced to Bronze 438.
Appearance
- Youthful and handsome: Described as a young man and explicitly admired for his appearance even when his detachable organs ruin his face 126 203 242.
- Increasingly perfected features: Charisma Fruits and pills refined during the tribulation leave his features exceptionally beautiful and without visible flaws 352.
- Auspicious qi: Magnificent-looking auspicious qi surrounds his head in later appearances 352.
- Variable physical form: Can appear as detached heads or other body parts; later fights with three heads and six arms 352 435.
- Altered appearances: Uses disguises and incarnations, including a halo-bearing holy figure and a possessed player’s body 328.
Personality
Lin Bai is calculating, irreverent, and intensely pragmatic. He insists that quests should improve his life rather than govern it, and judges systems, relationships, and obligations by their usefulness and cost. He routinely postpones inconvenient tasks, exploits loopholes, and arranges for one action to advance several objectives 15 66 240.
His public warmth frequently masks deliberate manipulation. Praise, insults, embarrassment, fear, and resentment all become resources, and he initially favors negative emotions because they are easier to harvest. His composure under social embarrassment is particularly pronounced: he presents a night of threatening Jiang Qingqin while reciting sweet nothings as an unfortunate cultivation requirement 17 92.
His treatment of enemies and allies differs sharply. Former opponents remember coercion and humiliation, yet find him protective once they join the Righteous Alliance. He refuses to replace loyal disciples with stronger cultivators and repeatedly risks himself to preserve followers 242 294 345. Nevertheless, his stated pursuit of peace coexists with forced love, puppet commands, propaganda, and threats against innocents 193 216 363.
His central ambition is freedom from being someone else’s pawn. As his position rises, he consciously abandons the role of caretaker in favor of treating others as pieces in a larger contest. He believes continual advancement—not remaining safely established—is necessary to protect those close to him and eventually challenge the forces governing the worlds 199 378 392.
Abilities & Skills
Player Recognition and Private-Chat Hearing
- Sees glowing player names and hears conversations that players assume are inaccessible to NPCs 3.
- Detects a planned nighttime attack by listening to the organizers’ private communication 74.
- Uses player informants and their communication networks to learn rival sects’ plans 198.
- This information advantage is distinct from unrestricted mind-reading: the documented examples concern player conversations and communications 3 74.
Multiple Systems and Reward Mastery
- System-granted martial arts and formation knowledge arrive at full mastery, without ordinary practice 55 130.
- Prioritizes rewards according to immediate survival needs rather than allegiance to a particular system 15 240.
- Uses money, outsourcing, cooperative players, publicity, and carefully chosen venues to shorten tasks 129 255.
- Quest constraints can obstruct serious business; prolonged speech tasks are especially awkward during combat preparations 57 158.
- Some systems remain dormant and unresponsive even after he becomes much stronger 431.
Emotion, Fortune, Merit, and Charisma
- Harvests others’ positive and negative reactions through an emotion system; its fruits improve Spirit and Charisma 35 139 145.
- Increased Spirit restores memory and eventually supports divided attention across several tasks 35 315.
- Fortune favors his intended outcome, including whether he wants artifact refinement to succeed or destroy the target 129.
- Charisma influences trust and loyalty beyond what Lin Bai initially attributes to his own persuasion 172.
- Virtue light removes the black lightning threatening his life after the tribulation 345.
Martial Arts and Movement
| Technique | Applications and limitations |
|---|---|
| Dragon-Subduing Ten-Stroke Palm: Fragment | Produces incomplete dragon-shaped attacks; effective against Qingfeng’s initial barrier but costly in inner force 25. |
| Arched Body, Single Shadow | Short-distance bursts; combining it with Morning Flight in the early morning produces exceptional aerial speed 56. |
| Morning Flight | Flight is tied to the morning, making time of day a tactical restriction 56 125. |
| June Divine Sword | A sword technique usable only in summer; Lin Bai cannot test it during autumn 56. |
| Six Colors of Proud Frost | Saber energy extends ten meters and displays five colors despite the technique’s name 56. |
| Golden Bell Shield | Protects the middle of his body but leaves his head and feet exposed 56. |
| Wood-Cloud Traverse | Enables rapid movement across treetops 56. |
| Seven Wounds Hand | Teaches two moves to Jing Mi, reserving the complete art as a merit-based reward 88. |
- Early system techniques have fixed moves and do not give him the natives’ flexible manipulation of inner force 149.
- Greater shared cultivation improves perception and speed, but does not automatically supply experienced combat instincts 287.
Palm Thunder
- Uses spoken incantations to produce destructive lightning; the stronger tongue-twister version can split and scorch a large tree 66.
- Breaks Qingming’s protective talisman and brings the Golden Core opponent down 123.
- Counters evil spirits during the Blood Shadow Gate’s battlefield techniques 179.
- Stores smaller discharges in an electricity-storage artifact for later use 130.
- Trains Little White Fox to recite its incantation and use the technique herself 128 129.
Language and Emotional-Control Skills
- Ventriloquism: Speaks without moving his mouth and generates two voices simultaneously; remains able to communicate after detaching his mouth 92 242.
- Vocal Mimicry: Alternates between children’s, women’s, and other voices to disorient pursuers and satisfy language tasks 246 249 251.
- Decibel Doubling: Turns a shouted command into a destructive sound wave; its full force can also injure Lin Bai himself 246 391.
- Provocation / Taunt: Induces hostility and draws enemies toward him; creative combinations turn it into a control or attack tool 241 361.
- Wrath of Gods and Men: Inflames anger, clouds judgment, and can make allies attack one another 373 435.
- Truth-Telling Spell: Forces truthful responses, though captives can still avoid answering by remaining silent 328 357.
- Shared smile: His own smile compels surrounding people, including players, to smile 211.
Love-Based Control and Transport
- Matchmaker’s Red Thread: Forces two selected people into deep affection and can alter how they interpret memories of hostility 133 261.
- Love and Aversion Arrows: Manipulate attachment or hostility; the Aversion Arrow leaves Daoxu furious even at innocuous remarks 172.
- Moon Chase: Sends targets skyward and provides repeated openings for attacks or coercion 199 216 287.
- Love’s Parting: Leaves a target unable to resist during the effect; Lin Bai also uses it to stop Wen Ba’s attempted self-destruction 203 287.
- Heavenly River: Separates people according to their romantic attachment and can expose one-sided love or false couples. Its restraint is limited against Mahayana opponents 271 276 300.
- Magpie Bridge: Connects lovers over any distance. Lin Bai turns this into transport, escape routes, military logistics, and links between realms and worlds 271 276 352 363.
- Immortal Binding: Uses ropes to restrain locked-on targets. Strong opponents can break inadequate ropes, so material quality is crucial 281 289 300.
Card System and Extraction
- Seals defeated or dying opponents, restores them, and releases them as controlled assets 123 287.
- Shares released captives’ cultivation and abilities, allowing abrupt increases in effective power 161 348 391.
- Spirit-Opening Pills restore a captive’s memories and awareness, but do not guarantee willing obedience 216 363.
- Can seal individual attacks and release the already-formed moves against enemies 277.
- Captures depend on circumstances and card resources; Lin Bai does not assume he can reliably seal every stronger enemy 172 217.
- Extraction takes one random skill at a time. Repeated extraction followed by card restoration turns shared skills into his own permanent acquisitions 386 392.
Body Disassembly, Regeneration, and Incarnations
- Separates body parts through techniques from the Great Demon Disassembly Manual, allowing evasion and independent deployment of organs 145 216 242.
- Sends an eye, mouth, and hand together as a remote unit: the eye navigates, the mouth provokes, and the hand attacks with Palm Thunder 242.
- Regenerates ruined heads and exploits recovery to survive self-damaging sonic attacks 391.
- Creates divided-soul and divine incarnations; one possesses a player, while others act independently of his main body 322 328 420.
- Lost-organ replacement is initially a bluff when he proposes the remote-organ operation; later regeneration feats should not be read back into that earlier stage 242 391.
Flaw-Seeking and the Way of Deficiency
- Gains inner force by creating incompleteness and having others spread the practice 130 145.
- Flaw-Seeking Eye detects structural weaknesses, artifact defects, and interruptions in spiritual-energy circulation 277.
- Uses that perception to select and reinforce restraints, then advise Zuo Lan on progressively stronger Immortal-Binding Ropes 281 300.
- Earth Flaw Technique later absorbs spiritual power directly into his own reserves 435.
Cooking, Medicine, and Artifact Refining
- Combines Butchering Technique with saber energy to carve a rooster from ten meters away 129.
- A luminous cooking feat briefly stuns bystanders, prompting him to consider combat applications 209.
- Designs pills whose side effects—bloating, diarrhea, poisoning, or increased bleeding—become offensive tools 110 129.
- Acquires poison appraisal, toxicology, meridian-sealing skills, Pill Appraisal Technique, and Miasma-Breaking Eye 149 222.
- Miasma-Breaking Eye helps assess the wine-mist ambush against his detached organs 246.
- Combines system knowledge of ergonomics, materials science, and formations with cultivation-world resources 125 130 300.
- Later medical rewards include Palm Flame, Condense Matter into Pills, and Reverse-Engineering Pill Formula 433.
Near-Death Counterattack
- Multiplies his potential tenfold when he is on the brink of death 340.
- Requires genuine severe injury; he refuses healing pills and has Qingyun injure him again when the tribulation clouds reform 340.
Idol and Pet Powers
- Early idol benefits grant fans a ten-percent combat boost; later celebrity progression strengthens his aura 139 294 297.
- Idol’s Heart gives nearby fans a one-hundred-percent attribute boost and prevents their betrayal 433.
- Pet Heart maximizes an entire species’ favorability toward him when he takes one of its creatures as a pet 433.
- Develops Little White Fox into a nine-tailed celestial fox and gains formulas enabling intelligence awakening and shapeshifting 433.

- Later seized Divine Artifacts — Include an automatically binding Immortal-Binding Rope, the sky-obscuring Golden Light Banner, and an automatically attacking Immortal-Slaying Saber 435.
Relationships

- Nan Lingtian — Platinum Realm captive coerced into collaboration through threats, card restoration, and cross-realm transport 363.
- Shi Biao — Star Radiance captive whose power and Judgment skill become Lin Bai’s next breakthrough. Forced to reveal and attack his sworn brothers 391 392.

Public Influence
- Justice Weekly: Uses the newspaper to spread his reputation, promote the Righteous Alliance, reinterpret righteous and evil faction labels, and publicize engineered romances 193 209.
- Heavenly Fragment Collection: Restored Earth poetry becomes deliberately unfinished literature that generates incompleteness points and a cultural movement 35 56 104 297.
- Player attention: A petition asks the developers to preserve him as a popular “bug.” Later, advertising and livestreams turn his battles and cultivation into major commercial spectacles 60 203.
- Factional competition: Creates the Righteous Alliance Army as a rival to the Beggar Gang, using competition for resources and influence to restore player productivity 222.
- Public services: Orders road repairs, bridge building, bandit suppression, and accessible pill and artifact businesses, while also using those activities to legitimize his expansion 249.
- Magpie Bridge network: Transforms transport, trade, troop movement, and inter-realm access; rival states and sects begin researching alternatives to avoid dependence on him 276 277 297.
- Divided reputation: Supporters include fans, peace-seekers, and beneficiaries of the new order. Opponents regard him and his alliance as sources of instability and violations of their interests 389.
