"If nobody's home, why did you grab me?"
"If nobody's home, what's the point of going in?"
Wen Ning let go and straightened his clothes.
"We'll wait right here."
"Wait?"
Lu Ming rubbed his neck, looking thoroughly unwilling.
"What if they've gone on vacation? What if they don't come back today? We're just going to sit here waiting?"
"You're a god posted away from home. Is your time really that precious?"
Wen Ning's retort left Lu Ming speechless.
He opened his mouth, then finally stalked over to a crooked tree by the temple entrance and crouched beneath it, folding his arms and sulking.
Wen Ning ignored him. He found a relatively clean stone step to sit on, his gaze settling on the weathered plaque above the temple entrance.
The words "Dragon King Temple" were written crookedly. They clearly weren't the work of any proper craftsman; they looked more like someone had casually slapped them on with paint afterward.
Lu Ming couldn't stand crouching there for long. He got up and paced outside the temple, inspecting the offerings one by one before letting out a heartfelt sigh.
"These apples look pretty good. Way better than the ones we buy for our shop."
Then he picked up a packet of cookies and checked the production date. His eyes lit up.
"They haven't expired yet. Wen Ning, want some?"
"Put them down. Those are offerings people left for the Dragon King."
Wen Ning spoke without even turning his head.
"We're here to investigate the Dragon King. What's wrong with eating a few of his offerings? Besides, is that thing even a Dragon King?"
Despite his righteous tone, Lu Ming put the cookies back.
His eyes, however, were still clearly lingering on the bottles of drinks.
Just then, hurried footsteps sounded in the distance.
