The two of them filled out their forms and handed them to Master Jin.

Master Jin took them, glanced them over without reading closely, and tossed them onto the end of the heated brick bed before calling outside.

"Get a rabbit in here! They passed the interview. Take these two to their quarters."

Rabbit Spirit A poked a head through the curtain and grinned, ears bobbing along.

"Sure thing, Master Jin! Come on, you two. I'll show you the dorm."

Leaving Master Jin's little courtyard, Wen Ning and Lu Ming followed Rabbit Spirit A through the winding paths of the stockade.

The night wind was still cold, but it had eased since they first entered the mountains. A sliver of moon peered out overhead, mostly hidden by clouds, casting a faint wash of silver light.

Rabbit Spirit A stopped in front of a row of wooden cabins, pushed open one of the doors, and gestured inside with a tilt of the chin.

"This is it. Good timing, too. We've got exactly two bunks left."

Wen Ning poked his head inside. The room was small, but cleaner than he had imagined.

Two rows of communal sleeping platforms stood against the walls, their straw mattresses laid out fairly neatly. A few suitcases sat in a corner.

Most importantly, someone was already inside.

Rabbit Spirit B was lounging cross-legged on one of the inner bunks, cracking sunflower seeds. Seeing them enter, the rabbit waved a paw in greeting.

"You're here? Guess we're roommates now."

Wen Ning froze for a moment, looking from Rabbit Spirit A to Rabbit Spirit B. No wonder the room was so clean. How could a rabbit burrow not be clean?

"You two live here too?"

"Of course."

Rabbit Spirit A shut the door, bounded over to the assigned bunk
