Wen Ning followed the officer into the interview room, with Lu Ming and Feng Dema behind him. The room was small, furnished with a table and a few chairs. A computer and a notebook sat on the table. The officer sat down across from them, opened the notebook, and picked up his pen.

"Name."

"Wen Ning."

"Occupation."

"Self-employed. I run a shop."

The officer glanced at him.

"What kind of shop?"

"A pet shop. We bathe cats and dogs, groom them, that sort of thing."

The officer nodded and wrote it down. Then he asked Lu Ming and Feng Dema their names, and they answered in turn. Feng Dema sat perfectly straight, both hands on his knees, looking like an honest, well-behaved fellow. Lu Ming leaned against the back of his chair, looking quite relaxed.

The officer asked a few basic questions, then got to the point.

"Tell me what happened today, starting from when you noticed something was wrong."

Wen Ning thought for a moment, then began.

"We went out on an errand this afternoon and passed through that old residential area. When we reached the alley entrance, we saw a van parked there with its rear hatch open. A man was stuffing someone inside. We thought something was wrong, so we went over to check. When we got closer, we saw it was a girl. She was unconscious, and the man was about to shove her into the van. So we stopped him."

"How did you know the girl was being kidnapped?"

"She was unconscious. Besides, who rides in the cargo area?"

The officer jotted down a few notes.

"And then?"

"Then we restrained him. He pulled a knife, but we pinned him down. I called the emergency number."

"How many of you were there?"

"Three. He was
