Ch. 201The Fall of the Crimson Sun Sect (Part Two)
Key plot points and events
- The Mountain-Bearing Demon Tortoise emerges beside the Main Peak, initially prompting the Crimson Sun Sect to call on him for help. Instead, he turns on them, devouring their disciples and admitting that he wants to reach the third tier by consuming cultivators.
- The sect’s survivors attack Xu Yan and the tortoise together. Xu Yan uses the Ancient Demon Nine Prohibitions to withstand their barrage, then counters with his fist and blood-colored flying sword, killing many disciples.
- Declaring that the Crimson Sun Sect will fall, Xu Yan targets Fang Shan. His enormous Demon Finger smashes Fang Shan’s protective seal and kills him; Xu Yan then stores the corpse after applying sealing formulas.
- Xu Yan rapidly kills the sect’s Foundation Establishment cultivators and pursues the remaining disciples. The Nine Instruments Starlight Demon-Slaying Formation prevents them from escaping.
- By the end, Xu Yan and the tortoise have slaughtered the entire Crimson Sun Sect. Xu Yan collects the cultivators’ corpses in a separate Storage Ring.
Character developments and interactions
- Xu Yan moves from cautious concern about facing the powerful tortoise to taking advantage of its betrayal. His vengeance against the sect—especially for the harm tied to Li Changfeng—and his desire for wealth and essence blood drive his relentless assault. He shows no mercy, even to a disciple who begs for his life.
- The Mountain-Bearing Demon Tortoise reveals that he was never loyal to the sect: he resents Danyangzi for restraining his growth and sees the cultivators as food. His alliance with Xu Yan is opportunistic rather than compassionate.
- Fang Shan tries to rally the sect against both attackers, then attempts to defend himself with a magical seal, but is killed.
- The sect’s disciples shift from confidence in their collective attack to panic and helplessness; their pleas and attempted resistance do not change Xu Yan’s course.
Significant themes
- Betrayal and self-interest: The sect’s supposed guardian turns on it to pursue power, while Xu Yan’s alliance with him rests on mutual advantage.
- Vengeance and ruthless ambition: Xu Yan frames the massacre as repayment for past wrongs, but also openly anticipates gaining treasure and cultivators’ essence blood.
- Power and helplessness: The sect’s numbers, spells, and defenses prove useless against stronger attackers, while its formation traps its own people.
- Violence and dehumanization: Cultivators are treated as resources—food for the tortoise and spoils for Xu Yan—as the sect is destroyed without distinction.
