A wall of fire three meters high erupted from the ground, spanning thirty meters. It was no ordinary fire. Its flames were pure white, so hot that even the surrounding air warped.
The vanguard of the swarm plunged headfirst into the wall of fire.
There was no time to struggle. The instant their wings touched the white flames, they shriveled to ash. Charred bodies dropped from the air, landing with faint crackles.
Row after row. One wave after another.
The wall burned for ten seconds, killing most of the swarm. But several dozen circled around its sides—they weren't stupid enough to all fly straight into the flames.
"Here they come!" Yang Wanqing swung the Capital Heavenly Thunder Halberd in a full arc.
Golden arcs of lightning burst from the halberd's head, sweeping across a swath of bees. Five Killer Bees plummeted from the air, their wings scorched and curled by the electricity.
Chen Siyao drew her sword. Ice-blue patterns lit up along the blade.
A bee dove at her from the right, its stinger aimed straight at her shoulder. She sidestepped the stinger and sliced off half its wings with a backhand slash. Its mutilated body spun into the flowers.
Behind them, Xiao Yue attacked relentlessly. She opened her mouth toward the sky and let out a short howl. It was no ordinary cry; visible sound waves rippled through the air.
They struck three low-flying Killer Bees. Their wings stopped for an instant, and they lost control, crashing to the ground. Xiao Yue ran over and crushed them to pieces, one beneath each swipe of her paw.
The Fuzhu had been driven to the rear by Chen Siyao. The five white deer huddled together, the light on their rainbow-colored antlers pulsing rapidly as they stamped in place, uneasy.
