The result of Divine Calculations left Jun Wangchen frozen in his seat.
He had only tried to divine his own future, yet the result warned him of imminent danger. Surely his luck couldn't be that damn bad?
Alarmed, Jun Wangchen hurriedly looked around, but he saw nothing dangerous.
"Strange. Can Divine Calculations be wrong sometimes?" Jun Wangchen frowned and was about to try again when a burning smell suddenly hit his nose, making him choke.
Jun Wangchen froze. Following the smell, he discovered that the power strip he used for charging was billowing black smoke, sparks flashing within it as though it might explode at any second.
Stunned as he was, Jun Wangchen didn't dare hesitate. He quickly pulled out the power strip's plug, averting disaster.
"Phew!" Once it was done, Jun Wangchen wiped the cold sweat from his forehead and let out a deep breath, shaken but relieved.
Without Divine Calculations, he might well have been electrocuted, becoming the first person at Jinling University to be killed by a power strip.
"Divine Calculations... really is a good thing!" As his relief settled in, Jun Wangchen grew even more excited.
Judging by the Primordial Heavenly Venerable's announcement in the group, someone would send out red packets practically every day. That meant he would have a daily chance to encounter different divine items and gain abilities ordinary people could never hope to attain.
At that thought, Jun Wangchen's blood began to race.
To roam the world with a sword and draw it whenever injustice crossed his path—how many people throughout history had dreamed of that?
But as people grew older, they gradually woke from their dreams and realized some could never come true. All they could do was bury those dreams deep in their hearts, afraid to let reality's claws tear apart their last shred of hope.
Before this, he had been like so many others, suppressing the desires and distractions in his heart, gunned down by reality on a beachhead called "dreams," his dying eyes reflecting all the others who had failed to storm it.
When places of joy became deserted stages, when memories drifted into dust, when everything became an unattainable void, how fickle was the awakening called life?
But now, everything would be different, because inside his phone... there were immortals!
Forcing down his excitement, Jun Wangchen cleared his thoughts and took a sip of water, then prepared to enter the chat group to see what everyone else had received.
Before he could do so, however, the sudden sound of the door opening interrupted him.
The dorm room door swung open, and a lavishly dressed young man trudged in with his head hanging.
"Guys, I'm back!"
Hearing Third's listless voice, Eldest and Second both looked up at him and frowned. "Third, you still haven't found your phone?"
"No!" Third sighed and shook his head, his eyes slightly red.
"I looked for ages, but I still couldn't find it. Maybe it's really gone for good."
"Third, it's just a phone. With your monthly allowance of over a hundred thousand, buying another would be easy, wouldn't it?" Seeing that something was wrong, Jun Wangchen patted his shoulder reassuringly.
"It's not about the phone." Third gave a bitter smile, his voice choking up. "It has the texts my mom sent me before she died. They're the most important thing I have, and the only thing she left me. I could give up anything else, but not those."
Jun Wangchen and the others fell silent, an ache stirring in their hearts.
Third's mother had died of cancer during his freshman year, dealing him a devastating blow. He had spent almost that entire year drowning in grief. If the three of them hadn't kept talking him through it, he might already have followed his mother to the grave.
That was precisely why Third had always treated the three of them like his own brothers. Over the past three years, he had slipped them money countless times, enough in total to buy a high-end Mercedes at the very least.
When their business venture failed and left them owing over a hundred thousand, Third had even stepped in without batting an eye, never asking them to repay him. His devotion to his brothers couldn't have been clearer.
Now Third had lost his most treasured possession, and none of them could help. That sense of helplessness was hard to bear.
As the atmosphere in the dorm room grew strained, something suddenly clicked in Jun Wangchen's mind. As though remembering something, he quickly raised his hand, closed his eyes, and counted on his fingers. An invisible dotted line between heaven and earth surged into his mind.
When Jun Wangchen opened his eyes again, a sly smile quietly curved his lips.
"Third, were you at the bar all afternoon today?"
Third blinked at Jun Wangchen's question, then nodded. "Yeah."
"And while you were there, you drank too much and fell asleep in the owner's room, right?"
Third stared at Jun Wangchen in disbelief. "You're not a fucking stalker, are you?"
He hadn't told any of his three roommates that he had gotten drunk and slept in the owner's room. Only the owner knew. Yet Jun Wangchen somehow knew about it too. Was this guy some pervert who liked stalking people?
Jun Wangchen smiled mysteriously. "Never mind that for now. I'm not a peeping Tom, either. Here's some good news: you left your phone in the owner's room."
"Impossible. I just spent ages searching her room and couldn't find it!" Third instinctively shook his head.
Jun Wangchen grinned slyly. "Then let me ask you this: did you check the wardrobe where she keeps her panties?"
"Holy shit, what kind of guy do you think I am? I'm not into that stuff. How could I possibly have left my phone somewhere like that?" Third's eye twitched, leaving him utterly speechless.
"Normally, you definitely wouldn't. But when you were drunk and not yourself, who knows?" Jun Wangchen gave a dry cough, then continued, "Trust me. Call the bar owner right now and ask her to check the wardrobe where she keeps her panties. You're definitely in for a surprise."
Seeing how certain Jun Wangchen looked, Third hesitated for a moment before picking up Eldest's phone and dialing the owner's number.
"Sister Yun, um... remember how I told you I lost my phone today? Could you check the wardrobe in your room and see whether it's in there?"
"My wardrobe?" Sister Yun paused on the other end, then laughed teasingly. "You had the nerve to rummage through my wardrobe? Bold little thing, aren't you!"
Third looked thoroughly embarrassed. "Sister Yun, the thing is, I was drunk today and might not have known what I was doing. Could you check the wardrobe? Maybe I really did leave it in there."
"All right, all right." Sister Yun said no more and began searching through her wardrobe while keeping the call connected.
Before long, Sister Yun found a black-cased phone in an exquisite cover.
"Little guy, I didn't expect you to remember so much after getting drunk. I found your phone. It really was in my wardrobe."
Excitement immediately flooded Third's face. "Sister Yun, please keep it safe for me. I'll come get it tomorrow. Don't let anyone steal it."
"Little guy, apart from you, there aren't any thieves in my room."
At that, Jun Wangchen and the other two watched Third, eager for more. Third looked mortified and exchanged a few more guilty words with Sister Yun before hanging up.
"Third, you've got some moves! Sounds like Sister Yun's pretty interested in you. When are you taking us to the bar to meet her?" Relieved that the phone wasn't lost, Eldest and Second exchanged a glance, then smiled at Third and began teasing him.
"Don't get any ideas. She only sees me as a little brother!" Third looked distinctly guilty.
Eldest and Second nodded meaningfully. "Right. A little brother who doesn't bang his big sister isn't a good little brother!"
"Get lost!" Third's face darkened. Then he turned to Jun Wangchen, his eyes filled with nothing but astonishment.
"Fourth, are you a fucking immortal or something?"
He didn't even know what he had done in the bar owner's room, but Jun Wangchen did. He even knew where the phone had ended up. Surely only an immortal could do something like that.
"If I were an immortal, would I still be sitting here shooting the shit with you? I'd have gone off to flirt with immortal maidens ages ago!" Jun Wangchen smiled helplessly, though inwardly he was smug.
I'm not an immortal, but there are immortals in my phone!
Third paused, feeling that Jun Wangchen's argument made a great deal of sense.
"Fourth, thanks for helping with the phone!"
That phone was priceless to him. No amount of money could replace it, because it was far more than a phone. It held a mother's love for her son, the only keepsake of her he would ever have.
If it had vanished without a trace, he would have regretted it for the rest of his life. Fortunately, with his brother's help, it had been found.
"There's no need for that between brothers." Jun Wangchen waved a hand and smiled.
Third was deeply moved. He didn't ask how Jun Wangchen had known where his phone was. Everyone had their secrets. As long as the phone had been found, that was the best outcome he could ask for.
With the matter resolved, Eldest and Second returned to their beds to contemplate the philosophy of life in their short videos.
Third, delighted to have recovered his phone, turned on his computer and set off on his quest for pentakills and godlike kill streaks.
As for Jun Wangchen, he lay in bed holding the Groundhog Phone, quietly following everything happening in the chat group.
In his view, only by getting to know the personalities of all the immortals in the group could he fit in like a fish in water. Perhaps he might even charm a few immortal maidens and get some perks.
At eleven thirty that night, everyone in Dormitory Room 520 was occupied with his own business.
Among the many rooms in the Tree-Back Dormitory, Dormitory Room 520 seemed insignificant. The Tree-Back Dormitory itself was insignificant within Jinling University, let alone within Jinling City, Huaxia, or the entire world.
Yet no one could have imagined that in this tiny place, an unrivaled king who would look down upon the world was slowly rising...
