Ward 23, twelfth floor, Inpatient Building One, Jinling Central Hospital.
Jun Wangchen arrived at Wang Gengzhi's ward carrying some nutritional supplements, accompanied by Wang Xia, who held a boxed meal.
Inside the ward, Wang Xia's mother, Huang Ying, was peeling an apple for her father, Wang Gengzhi. Slanting rays of sunlight fell squarely across Huang Ying's face, illuminating her kindly smile.
Wang Gengzhi seemed to be asleep in bed, but the smile on his face showed that he had been in good spirits before drifting off.
"Mom, look who I brought!" Wang Xia entered the ward and pointed toward the doorway.
Huang Ying stopped peeling and turned to look, her jaw dropping. "You're... little Chen?"
"Auntie Ying, it's been a long time!" Jun Wangchen walked in with the supplements, smiling.
"It really has been ages. I haven't seen you for a few years, and you've grown so tall." Huang Ying stood and hurried over, looking Jun Wangchen up and down with a wistful air.
"When you were little, I worried you wouldn't grow tall. Clearly, I worried for nothing. How's your mother? Is she still in Baijia Town?"
"No, Mom moved to Jinling City." Jun Wangchen shook his head and handed Huang Ying the supplements. "Auntie Ying, I bought these nutritional supplements especially for Uncle Wang."
"Oh, coming to visit your Uncle Wang was more than enough. Why did you bring so much?" Huang Ying looked at the supplements, feeling a little embarrassed.
"Mom, it's little Chen's way of showing he cares." Smiling, Wang Xia persuaded Huang Ying to accept them, then told her how she had run into Jun Wangchen.
When Huang Ying learned that Jun Wangchen was doing well for himself, she was genuinely happy for him.
